We stayed 2 weeks at Peggy's beautiful home! I highly recommend this place! The home lacked nothing, the kitchen was well stocked, the pool was warm and relaxing, the bedrooms comfortable. The location was perfect, just the right distance from everything we wanted to do. We visited Sanibel Island, went to several Twins games, visited Venice and Lover's Key, and rented a deck boat for a day. We had a disabled person with us and everything was accessible for him. Thank you SO MUCH Peggy!
Lori, I am so delighted that everything was to you liking and that you had a lovely time. I hope to see you again when You come back to this area. I have had many repeat guests, that also loe this beautiful home!
Beautiful - but not worth the owner's hassle
Property is beautiful and spacious. Location was a bit of a long drive to the beaches, but we knew that going in and knew the pool and hot tub area would be a decent trade and great for the families going. Of the entire house, the only complaint is the bedding was not comfortable (which I know is a pretty subjective thing).
However, RENTER BEWARE, Peggy, the owner of this property is notes and post-its around every corner, in every room. Simple things are blown out of proportion, like the simple act of taking the trash out. Lots of threats about electric use, water use, trash & recycling, etc. We were charged $[redacted] extra (taken from our security deposit) for using too much electricity when we in fact kept the pool heater off because all of the notes scared us. We fought back asking for proof and Peggy refused to communicate or show any proof. We had issues with the pool and Peggy told me to read the binder manual and figure it out. On the last day I pushed hard and she sent someone out and they said the pool was never properly maintained. The filter was so full of green slime water could not even flow through. The hot tub pump had been broken which is why the hot tub never worked all week (it would drain but never fill because the return line pump was dead).
Primary problem - she never mentioned electric fees ahead of time but then withheld that money and it was an unreasonable amount. I did research for houses in N. Fort Myers and I don't see how we could have used that much extra electricity. If she requires the A/C be left alone and outside lights run all night and setup the pool to be a certain temperature, then that should be what she considers her baseline (plus normal usage for lights, TV, coffee maker, refrigerator, etc.). Nothing is clear and she offers no proof of anything. I personally think she's trying to pay for her entire electric bill through these withholdings on the security deposit.
I filed a complaint with VRBO which is the only way I got her to reply to me. She then sent me a long letter about how I was in the wrong but sent me the money back anyway with a promise to retract my complaint with VRBO.
If you choose to stay here, and it really was a beautiful place, plan on losing part of your security deposit to fraud electric charges.
Beautiful place. A few issues owner hard to contact kiss security deposit goodbye
Gorgeous place. Pictures do not do this justice. I fell in love w the pool area. Traveled w my elderly parents. Turned out to be my mothers last hurrah before she passed. So glad to give her this trip and get her into the pool. Loved the two air systems so my side could be cool and parents side warmer. Glitches were security alarm constantly going off. Nothing ever happened . no police. Could not reach owner or the handyman she said would be available. Just would push buttons til it stopped. This would usually Happen in the middle of the night. Lawn people , pool cleaner/tester and exterminator all came while we were there. It was a drag that exterminator told us we had to stay out of the pool area for a few hours. Glad he came though, as back door to dock was covered in fire ant mound. I found this the hard way and got about 20 bites. Holes and rips in pool screen. My father patched and reattached the best he could. Television had a patental guard on it. Didn't notice this for a week til tried to watch something rated R. Again tried to contact owner. Finally she emailed back. And took care of the tv code. But by then we didn't care. The show we were going to watch was over. When we arrived there were dishes in dish washer. Laundry in washer and drier. It was bedding. Good thing we noticed to put the wash in the drier. Trash cans left full of trash. Minor stuff compared to the pool area and doc. That's only place we cared to be. Kitchen was fabulous to work in. What keeps me from going back is my security deposit. After reading all the rules about what not to do or loose money and following those rules we went home and heard no complaints . Ticks me off wondering if the people before me got demerits or lost $$ for leaving trash, laundry and dishes for us to deal with. And why do we pay a cleaning fee? It was months bugging her for security deposit. She said had to calculate if we used too much electricity. I don't know how. We stayed for a partial month. Five months and several emails later I received a check deducting $190 for alleged damage. Live and learn. Last year found another beautiful place where owner met us at door. Gave us his contact number. Showed us electric meter. Took photo of it. Had a great time. Met owner on day we left. Got security deposit back in cash. Don't get me wrong. I loved this house. Hated to leave. It's a shame that nagging about the darn deposit was my last memory of it
The property was very nice. We had a couple of glitches when we first arrived but everything was taken care of very quickly. We enjoyed the pool area and also the dock on the river. Everything was clean and maintained well. We would have liked to have had TV's in each bedroom but not a necessity. The kitchen area is awesome. We all had a good time just relaxing. Thanks for a great place.
I started my search for a place in Florida in hopes to go and relax with my 2 children, a friend and their kids. When I inquired about this property, Peggy the owner responded very quickly. Once she received our full payment it was difficult to reach her. I had to send several emails regarding check in/out times. This should have been the first red flag of what was to come. I have rented several homes and never had an issue with an owner. I have always received my deposit back. I was always thought to leave something better than you found it and truly believe that we did. I had to reach out to her to be refunded our security deposit. Here is the facts from our communication or should I say....lack of communication.
4/6/2016- I emailed Peggy and no response from her
4/13/2016- I called Peggy and left her a voicemail
4/15/2016- I called Peggy and her voicemail was full so therefore unable to leave you a voicemail
4/20/2016- Peggy finally respond and told me that I never paid her a security deposit
4/22/2016- Provide her with records that I did
NONE of these times did she ever mention ANY concern about the way we left the property or any "damage" done to it.
4/27-I had to email Peggy again because there is once again no follow up. FINALLY, she responds with a laundry list of "damages" done to her property???? She claims that "our kids" damaged her cabinets and drawers. We NEVER left any children alone in that area she is claiming because it is right next to the pool. She also claims we damaged a hurricane system from using the door locks? And lastly, the garbage was not picked up. There was a note that if the garbage spills into the street then we would be responsible to pick it up. With there being a large slope at the end of the driveway we put the cans on flat land (call me crazy but who would want to have to pick up trash in the middle of a busy road?) I emailed her that same day to ask her what we should do because they did not take the trash.
I am not a lawyer but isn't it the owners responsibility to provide you with your deposit and/or pictures/receipts claiming the damage with in 30 days?
May 4th- I emailed Peggy again requesting evidence of her claims
As of today, May 17th,2016, I still do not have my security deposit and/or evidence of "damages". AND if there really was so much "damage" and she did not have a deposit from us, like she claimed and had proved , wouldn't an owner ask for the damages to be paid?
I was rather dismayed to receive this letter from Ms Marisa. She and her girlfriend were the 2 adults, and they had several children between the two ladies. I believe the children were not properly supervised. they wrote with ballpoint pens on my white leather furniture, and they did considerable damage to my lower cabinets and drawer fronts in the summer kitchen. Besides the damage, they failed to empty their trash, which caused me to have to hire a service, to take away that trash as I had new renters coming in behind them, and I had to buy and extra set of trash cans, I could not leave the incoming clients with no trash cans.
During the 3 years I have been offering my residence for hire, I have refunded the deposit to each client except these ladies. The damage exceeded their deposit. Since this incident I have been requiring that guests pay $1000. as a deposit, (it was formerly $500. and also recommend that they buy an insurance policy for $59.00, that will cover any big item damage.
VRBO automatically sends to each client directions for accessing the home upon arrival. All of her dates about the telephone calls <I am sorry to say
are untrue. Her story about my saying they did not pay a deposit is untrue.
You will find I have put tape and little signs on a few of the doors. I have covered the "hurricane locks" which are not necessary to use unless there is a hurricane. They set these locks, and I had to have a locksmith came and open all of those doors.
After this incident I almost decided that I would no longer rent to family's with small children.
I finally remembered all the other family's with little ones left the house as they found it. So my policy will remain as it is. Mostly I hear back that the clients have had a lovely time.
Villa las palmas
Spent 2weeks at this beautiful house.we have travelled all over USA and think this is the best position of any of them. The house is in such a private place, the fishing was great and watching birds and animals was so interesting.one thing missing was a tea kettle as we're English we do like our tea,so we bought one and left it.Also bought international phone card to ring elderly relative at home and land line disconnected.Apart from this we found everything we needed and Peggy was very obliging.Thank you
Thank you for adding a tea kettle to my kitchen. I did have a beautiful Teapot...I thought you could just add hot water to that. Actually I have popped that teapot into the microwave myself.
Sorry we had no landline. Everyone seems to have their own cell phones these days.
I am happy you have wonderful memories of your stay, and I hope to see you again in the future!
