After a day of fun in the Silver Valley of Northern Idaho, who wants to be cooped up in a tiny, overpriced hotel room?
What you want is the affordable comfort and privacy of the nicely furnished Birdsong Vacation Cottage in the heart of the Silver Valley. Romp and play with your dog in the roomy fenced in back yard.
With 3 bedrooms and 1.5 baths, a full kitchen, living room and basement, The Birdsong Cottage offers you and your guests the clean, quiet, affordable comfort that you are looking for.
Both bedrooms on the main floor feature comfortable queen size beds. The third bedroom on the 2nd floor has a bunk bed with a comfortable double size mattress on the bottom and a twin size on top. Also a separate comfortable twin bed is in the same room.
Relax in one of the four big comfy recliners in the living room while watching cable TV or your favorite movie on DVD.
High Speed internet is available with the cable service free WIFI. Cell phone coverage is excellent so with either a laptop or your wireless internet card, you will be able to surf the net, check your email, and post your vacation pictures.
An unfinished , but clean and dry basement provides extra space if you need it. Keep your equipment downstairs out of the way. You will also find the full sized washer and dryer in the basement.
Large patio in the fenced back yard gives a great place for small children to play. A propane grille in the garage can easily be moved to the patio for cooking the trout you just pulled out of lake Elsie. Or maybe you just like the smell of those sizzling steaks.
It gets hot in Kellogg on a summer afternoon, so both floors have window mounted air conditioners that keep them cool.

Rosalie and I met in Spokane, WA when I was stationed there in 1960 and have been married for more than 50 years. She grew up in the Silver Valley during the hay days of Mining and Logging and graduated from Kellogg HS. We are retired and live in Arlington, WA where we are surrounded by our large family of children and grand children.
Talmadge (Tal) Coy Birdsong purchased this cottage in 2006
Rosalie and I decided to buy this house after her mother passed away because we love vacationing here and did not want to lose contact with the rest of the family who remained in the Silver Valley. We vacation here as well as rent it to others who wish to enjoy this great vacation spot. We first made some improvements like adding the patio shown in the photo. We also added a new kitchen, a second half bath upstairs and replaced the driveway and painted inside and out.
The view of Silver Mountain from the living room, view of mountains from the kitchen sink, the large fenced back yard and its central location makes this affordable little cottage a great place for a family to enjoy their vacation. This house was built in 1949 by Bunker Hill Mining Co. to house a supervisor's family. We have tried to update it without losing the historic feel.
we very much enjoyed our trip the yard was wonderful for the grandkids to play in after such a long time in the car. It was nice to walk into the house and have the air conditioner on after driving in 90+ degree heat. We would recommend this stay for any and all who were looking to stay in or around the area. Nice not to be cramped in a very small hotel room and the price was fantastic!! Thank you!
The house was a little older in a very quiet neighborhood. Short bike ride to the gondola! We found things typical for an older house-the floors creaked, not a lot of water pressure. Those were the only negatives to our stay! The rest was wonderful! Kitchen, comfy beds, great yard for our dog, close to the mountain. This was a great location. I hope we will be back as our travels take us frequently to Silver Mountain. This was so much less expensive than the lodge and much more friendly, quiet, and more for us.
this little cozy house has character. located close to highway it is well stocked, clean, and has everything you need. we had five people in our party with amble room to spread out. We all agreed with other reviewers about the comfortable beds. would stay here again.
Clean cozy house in a great location.
Tal Birdsong is a very positive owner and giving of his time when it comes to any questions about the area, the home and or it's amenities. He provides a very responsible and hard working manager who really did her job well in keeping our beds fresh and linens clean and in good supply. We were well cared for and highly recommend this home as a wonderful vacation property.
The Mcclain couple from Arizona
We arrived at the house on Saturday August 15. The house was clean and neat. Huge back yard. Nice kichen loaded with everything you could possibly need. A bbq in garage along with bicycles you could use, but we brought our own. Comfortable beds. Laundry room with soap and fabric sheets. Two bathrooms and air conditioning unit in living room and in upstairs bedroom.
Such a great place and located just a few blocks from the Trail of the Coueur d alenes.
We road our bicycles every day and went to the Brews Fest on Saturday. Can't wait to come back. We stayed 8 days and wish it was longer. You've got to check this place out!
Birdsong affordable vacation cottage is located just a half mile from the base of the gondola to Silver Mountain. The rails-to-trails bicycle and hiking trail that runs 73-miles is an asphalt trail that almost spans the Idaho Panhandle. The trail begins at Mullan, near the Montana border in the Bitter Root Mountains, and travels through the Silver Valley ending at the Hn'ya)pqi'nn Trailhead near Plummer on Idaho Highway 95. It is only 5 blocks from the Birdsong Cottage to where it passes through Kellogg. The town of Wallace, which looks just like it did in the early 1900's and probably will never change is just 15 miles east.
For the Quad ATV enthusiasts there are hundreds of miles of logging roads through the mountains around kellogg, Smelterville, and Pinehurst which will take you to some of the worlds most beautiful scenery and often encounters wild life to look at. I have seen black bear, moose, elk, deer even bunnies while riding in these mountains. ATVs and tracked ATVs can be rented in Couer d'Alene. Check this website http://adventuresportrentals.com/. Although there are stories that would lead one to believe: That if a bull moose is standing in the road looking at you he should not be challenged and the best course of action is to quietly back away. Usually one only sees the animal up close just long enough for them to run into the bush and disappear. Then if you stop and wait you can see them re-appear in the next clearing or next ridge.
Silverwood Theme Park just North of Coeur d'Alene just an hour drive away provides a great day of entertainment for the whole family. Coeur d'Alene Lake just 30 minutes away is a great boating lake. There is a boat launch on the East edge of the lake that launches into a calm bay where water sking and other water sports can be enjoyed.
Treat your family to a wonderful vacation in this beautiful part of Northern Idaho.
