Cute beach cottage recently renovated just two blocks from the beach
About Dorothy Palmer
I grew up in Jacksonville and moved away after college. After raising a family of four boys and a husband, I bought a house close to home but miles away. I wanted to be near my parents but immerse myself in the beach life. Atlantic Beach could be anywhere on the east coast, but it happens to be only 30 minutes from downtown Jacksonville, where you can go to enjoy opera, the symphony, road shows from New York and everything a big city has to offer, then go home to the wind, water and sun.

Why Dorothy Palmer chose Beaches
Having grown up in Jacksonville, I remember the beaches when they were more remote, quaint and simple. I liked this house because it reminded me of the clapboard beach cottages of old, with porches, wood floors and simple white trim work. By updating the kitchen with Quartzite countertop and full size farm sink, a dual fuel range and French style refrigerator, it is cottage chic, luxurious without being fancy. Master bath recently renovated, too, with all new fixtures. Updated colors and a fresh coat of paint inside the entire house swing the look into the 21st century without sacrificing the feel of historic Atlantic beach.
What makes this Cottage unique
Atlantic Beach is mostly residential so it is quiet with good neighbors. But the greatest advantage to the location is that you can walk to the beach without needing a stoplight. Pedestrian traffic rules in Atlantic Beach, with bikes coming in second. A front porch to drink coffee on in the morning and a patio in the backyard for evening dinners outside, what more could you want?

Loved many unique features...Beach and town down the street, authentic, quaint, peaceful pleasure.
I felt instantly at home in this cozy cottage, where "old" means historic and one-of-a-kind. Small and snug and well-appointed. Solitude when I wanted to write (my profession), plus wide lovely beach and lively town w/in walking distance with varied restaurant/shopping choices for
meeting friends and socializing.
My time there went too fast! I would definitely go back to this gem of a home-away-from-home.
You were the most gracious guest and I hope time brings you around again!
great location and good value
property in need of updating and as well as updating small appliances and furnishings
Adorable cottage in charming beach town
This sweet little cottage is well maintained and loved. Cozy bedroom, great bathroom and storage, wonderful kitchen space. The yard is lush and relaxing. Nestled in the heart of charming Old Atlantic Beach, the area is peaceful and relaxing. But also close enough to bike to restaurants, grocery store, boutiques, and more. Wonderful neighborhood to walk/run/bike around. In walking distance to a quiet part of the beach. This place is heavenly! We stayed here for 9 months and were so sad to leave! We miss it very often and have so many fond memories. Dorothy is such a gem of a lady. She was always very kind, accommodating, and quick to help. This cottage is truely the best of all worlds.
Atlantic Beach Hideaway
I stayed in the cottage from April to the end of June as I was looking for a permanent place to live in the area. The location is fantastic. It is on a quiet street, but is super close to the beach (2 1/2 blocks), two parks, and downtown Atlantic/Neptune Beach. Dorothy, the owner, is very cool and she was helpful and prompt to respond to any issues that arose during my months in the house. She also gave me some top notch recommendations for food and shopping. The front porch is amazing, I really enjoyed lounging out there and reading or just listening to the crickets. And the back yard is lovely. There is a gas stove in the kitchen, which I appreciated, and the air conditioner is top notch. (Important in Florida!) The house is older, so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who has sensitivities to dust, but it was a perfect home for me as I explored the Atlantic Beach area. I had a wonderful stay and missed the cottage after I left. Thank you Dorothy for sharing your home!
Lovely little cottage
I stayed in this lovely little cottage for three months this spring. What a DELIGHT! Convenient, quiet, friendly surroundings; it felt like home with none of the work, just relaxation and peace of mind. I will definitely be returning again and again. Dorothy, the owner, is very helpful and accommodating in every way if needed to make one's stay the BEST!
Tucked down one of Atlantic Beaches tiny grid of streets, the Beach House is two minutes walk to the beach at a beach access. In the summer months there is a life guard on duty. It's only seven pleasant walking blocks to the Beaches Town Center where you can eat, drink and be merry!
