Have just returned from our amazing trip to Hawaii. We enjoyed our stay in the condo very much. Everything was great, especially the abundant supply of beach towels.
We, a family of 3, had a very good time staying in this unit for 5 days. The unit is located at a very good location, steps away from the snorkeling place, and minutes drive from the restaurant zone. It is very clean as well and has all the necessities you would want to have. The only thing I wished it could have is the air condition in the second bedroom. The air conditioner in the living room and the master bedroom are not strong enough to reach to the second bedroom, making it hot and humid to sleep comfortably at night. The owner was very responsive when you have any question about the unit.
This condo was perfect for my family of 4. We have two kids ages 6 and 9. It had plenty of room for us and had everything we needed. We were able to cook meals to save some money and all the neighbors were nice. They even had a car washing station. The clubhouse has beach chairs and sand toys you can borrow for the day. Right across the street from Kahaluu Beach which is the best snorkeling spot which has easy access on the island. They even sell snow ones there and have paddle boarding. It's in a great location- centralized. Close to the famous Magic Sands beach if your into body boarding. I couldn't find a better deal than this condo and it was very comfortable. We will be returning here next time. Home owner was very nice and helpful too.
Overall this is a great condo with an excellent location if you like to be in the water (Kahaluu Beach Park). There is no ocean view from the condo or lanai, but the lanai has a peaceful setting surrounded by plumeria plants that were in full bloom. The only disappointment was the pool and hot tub, which were not clean. We cleaned three dead frogs and a few dead cockroaches out of the pool then decided just to go to beach - which is actually a better option anyway. This is not the owner's fault but a fault of those responsible for maintenance of the pool area.
Location location was very good nice clean and quite condo complex. Although I would of like a better mattress a lot newer and firm in the master suite other than that it was very good.
This was our first visit to the Big Island with our children, ages 10 and 12, and this condo, "The Makolea", was just perfect. It is a half a block from one of the best snorkeling beaches on the Island, with crystal clear water and sheltered from the surf by a beautiful coral reef, teeming with sea life. Kahaluu Bay is also a good surf spot, so we wound up renting boards for the week, and visited the beach every day to either surf, swim or snorkel before or after going on Island adventures. It is just a few minutes drive to Kona, has a local shopping center nearby with a great little coffee shop, Grocery store, and restaurants. The condo is well-appointed, clean, airy, and spacious with a homey feel. There are fans in every room, and wall mounted air conditioners to keep it cool. It also has a well stocked kitchen and big lanai with a dining table, which we enjoyed on the nights that we didn't feel like going out. One night we even grilled burgers and had dinner at the poolside table in the common area. This condo is a great launching pad for exploring this beautiful island. We highly recommend it!
We stayed here for a month and were very happy with the apartment, the apartment complex, the location, and all of our interactions with Janet, the owner (as well as other guests and residents in the complex). The apartment is spacious, has a nice layout, and a great lanai with access from both the living room and master bedroom. The lanai is very private - it faces toward an undeveloped, forested tract of land - and is not in direct view of other units. There are air conditioning window units that we occasionally used, but the ceiling fans in every room kept things nice and cool. All of the appliances, bedding, cookware, and furniture in the apartment were in very nice shape. The location is very convenient for accessing the Kahaluu Beach snorkeling and surfing area - literally a 2-minute walk away - as well as other beaches along Ali'i Drive. A large grocery store, restaurants, coffee shop, bookstore, and other retail shops are a 5-minute drive away, and walkers and joggers can easily access the running path that runs for miles along Ali'i Drive. We enjoyed this location, rather than the bustle, traffic, and more touristy vibe of beachfront Kona - although Kona is only a 10-15 minute drive away. There is a trolley that runs directly to Kona, with a stop a half block from the apartment.
Again, Janet was great to work with - prompt communication, flexible scheduling, and everything was as promised in the apartment. We would definitely stay here again - I think this rental is one of the best values around.
