The Boxwood house is a large 3 bedroom and 2 bath home located a block away from all that Colonial Beach has to offer. It is located near the beach, boardwalk, markets, cafes, shops and restaurants. It is close to all the activity around town. The Pavilion in located across the way. The Pavilion has car shows, carnivals and events through out the year . Colonial Beach is bike and golf cart friendly. The Boxwood has a large front porch with plenty of seating and areas to relax.
The Boxwood is a beautiful home ,decorated to give it a homey appeal. We appreciated the cool drinks and snacks waiting for us.. Everything we needed for our stay was provided. With three generations there,we had plenty of room to meet all our needs.By that I mean a quiet place for Grandma and Grandad, wifi and tv for the youngsters. Close to the beach and dining places, everything was within walking distance. We were there during a very hot spell and the breaker to the living room tripped numerous times doing our week stay. The house had several window air conditioners, probably causing the problem. I do think this is being taken care of. On our first day there, police were called three times to the next door neighbors house. The noise was impossible not to hear. My grandchildren's bikes were stolen off the side porch one night. I feel bad mentioning these negative things, because the owner has no control over these things, but I have received many request for a review and so here it is. I would love to stay in this house again. It met more than our expectations.
We had a great time at Boxwood. The beds were great, loved the big porch, snacks very thoughtful. WE want to make this our annual family vacation spot. LOVED IT! P.S. Excellent customer service. Would highly recommend it. Listing description was exact. We enjoyed several restaurants in the area ex Shady Lane and Wilkerson's Oh yes and the ice cream (Nancy's) across the way wonderful way to end the day.
We stayed at the Boxwood over the 4th and it was a very charming house that reflects genuine feel of history and simplicity back to a time where we felt a bond with family and unconcerned with our present world situations. I loved the originality of the house, from the ceiling light fixture to the loose stair rail to the the claw foot tub. The only distraction was the person next door using a weed eater to mow his lawn at 11:00 at night 😩 The only comfort complaint was the mattress on pull out couch, definitely needs to be replaced, other than that besides a few things that needed a general handyman touch, it was very cozy and its character adorable!
The Boxwood was a great house for a girls weekend getaway. Close to the water and very spacious rooms and layout of the house was superb. We enjoyed the back yard as well for some lazy afternoons and took advantage of the Boxwoods golf cart for strolls around Colonial Beach. Would highly recommend to anyone!
We could not have picked a better location. The house is old, but full of charm! We spent most of our time on the fabulous front porch that was equipped with a large table, chairs, rocking chairs and ceiling fans. There's also a backyard equipped with loungers, hammock and grill. The owner has another house adjacent to this one. It was quite a surprise when we found out after arrival, that our other friends had rented that house. If you have a group larger than 8, recommend renting both houses. Very convenient to sharing the backyard and moving between houses.
What a treat to find lots of snacks, drinks and supplies waiting for us upon arrival. By supplies, I mean toilet paper, cleaning products, dish washer liquid, paper towels, garbage bags, spices, Ziploc bags, soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc. etc. I've rented many houses in various beach locations over the years and this was the first time an owner has provided these added treats and supplies! The item we would have liked to have that we didn't bring or have available was a fly swatter. Not that the flies were bad, its that we spent so much time going in and out that a few got into the house.
The house is walking distance to the pavilion, beach, High Tides Restaurant, 7-11, among other locations. We didn't need the car except to visit the grocery store which is only a mile away.
We do intend to return to Colonial Beach and my first choice for lodging will be Stay at the Boxwood!
The home was is great condition and it was in a great location. We were across the street from the beach, next to a child's playground and could walk a few blocks to coffee and ice cream. We had a great weekend.
