About Will Cogswell

The “Tree House” belonged to our parents who lived in Lake Tahoe four months out of the year. Tahoe was their “primary love” since buying a cabin on the West Shore in the late 1960’s. In 2001, when the cabin became too difficult to manage in the winter, they purchased the “Tree House” in Tahoe Tavern. Completely satisfied to stay on property they would walk the grounds and spend hours reading and playing cards in the light of the upstairs. They often talked of the “spirit and calm” they experienced while living in the “Tree House.” With such good memories, we want others to enjoy Tahoe Tavern and the year round amenities that it brings.

Why Will Cogswell chose Tahoe City

Our parents purchased the "Tree House" at Tahoe Tavern because the Tavern is "Old Tahoe." There is such a rich history here, as the site for a magnificent destination hotel at the end of the line for the Lake Tahoe Railroad in the early 1900's. The grounds are open and expansive with many grassy areas dotting the landscape. The access to the lake from the famous Tahoe Tavern pier is incomparable. Lastly the "Tree House" is a wonderful mixture of light, color and views that makes time spent there peaceful and serene.

Tahoe Taverns is an excellent home base for a summer week of Tahoe fun with family

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family stayed at the Tahoe Taverns Tree House late June, and it is the perfect home base for all the summer activities in Tahoe. Tahoe Tavern has a special and long history with our family. And staying at the Tree House reminded me of why we love this place. First is location, location, location. With how crazy traffic can get around the shore, I love how everything is within biking range. Also the Tahoe Taverns dock was quite convenient when we wanted to rent a boat for the day, and we could pick up the rest of the family at the dock. If we were not on the lake, we were in the pool; both the dock and the pool at Tahoe Taverns are staffed with lifeguards, which was reassuring when you are monitoring 3 kids. We also appreciated easy access to the tennis courts and running trails for my brother - the avid distance off-road runner. The condo is nicely appointed and clean, perfect for an active family of seven. The owner was quite communicative and responsive to questions. Just after our arrival, he popped over to introduce himself and check on whether we needed anything. We had a wonderful time and hope to be back again soon.

Just getting around to reviewing this wonderful property!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had the pleasure of spending Labor Day weekend last year at the "Tree House," and I have been meaning all that time to write a review of how absolutely lovely it is. If you grew up in the area and visited Tahoe as a child, this is the Tahoe you remember. If you are from out of state or another country, and want to experience Tahoe as a local, this is your spot. This is a lovingly maintained family home, with plenty of space for two families to spread out and enjoy. Tahoe Tavern offers amenities such as a pool and tennis, and there is of course the lake just steps away. Commons Beach in (walkable) Tahoe City has a farmers market and open-air concerts, and right across the street from the community is the fabulous café Tahoe House. The owners are easy to deal with and communication is straightforward and timely. Cannot recommend highly enough...thanks for a great stay!

Great Place to stay in Tahoe City

  • 5 of 5

We have been renting at Tahoe Taverns since the 70s; our children grew up going there. There are many things to do in the area. Tahoe City has resisted the tacky type of development seen in many places.

We have stayed at the Tree House many times over the years, and it is a great unit in probably the best rental property in Tahoe.

Will is great at taking care of things from the rental arrangements to the information he gives you about the area.

2015 was our second stay at the Tree House. As before, it was absolutely perfect for our large family. The family room/dining room are surrounded by trees, as the name "Tree House" well describes. The deck was large and perfect for eating/reading,resting. We even got a call from the owners, one who lives in the immediate area, to make sure everything was going well, which it was. The home and Tahoe Taverns in general are perfect for our family of grandparents, children and grandchildren - plenty of room and plenty to do for everyone. The Tree House is our perfect spot for extended family time.....

Owner's Response: The most meaningful testimonial of a vacation rental property is when your guests return. It was a pleasure meeting your extended family and hope you return to the "Tree House" for many years to come.

Unwind at the Tree House

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week decompressing at the Tree House this summer. It was clean and had plenty of space for everyone to relax. We played tennis everyday at the courts nearby. We took walks into town for brunch and for shopping. The grounds at Tahoe Taverns are very well kept and security is good, even on the biking/hiking path entrance to the property. Even with the low lake levels, we had a wonderful week.

The kitchen was well stocked, the beds were comfortable and the living area is just right for lounging. We found ourselves ten minutes away from Squaw, fifteen minutes from Meeks Bay and walking distance to Tahoe City. The owners checked in with us and replied right away to questions we had.

We would love to stay at the Tree House again.

Tree House! Peaceful, woodsy, private location!

  • 5 of 5

Tree House is aptly named. Surrounded by an Aspen grove, it offers privacy and a quiet place on the shaded deck to enjoy meals, games and family gatherings. And even a few old songs sung softly in the evening,, passed without complaints from neighbors! We discovered books, puzzles and games to keep all ages interested; wonderful dinners emerged from a well stocked kitchen and we felt very appreciative to be in a home so obviously comfortable, cared for and welcoming. Days involved swimming, hiking, walks into town and

concluded with short walks in the evening to the pool and pier where fading light on the lake and mountains was magical to behold.

This was truly a very special place where a family gathering will long be remembered.
