The “Tree House” belonged to our parents who lived in Lake Tahoe four months out of the year. Tahoe was their “primary love” since buying a cabin on the West Shore in the late 1960’s. In 2001, when the cabin became too difficult to manage in the winter, they purchased the “Tree House” in Tahoe Tavern. Completely satisfied to stay on property they would walk the grounds and spend hours reading and playing cards in the light of the upstairs. They often talked of the “spirit and calm” they experienced while living in the “Tree House.” With such good memories, we want others to enjoy Tahoe Tavern and the year round amenities that it brings.
Will Cogswell purchased this condo in 2001
Our parents purchased the "Tree House" at Tahoe Tavern because the Tavern is "Old Tahoe." There is such a rich history here, as the site for a magnificent destination hotel at the end of the line for the Lake Tahoe Railroad in the early 1900's. The grounds are open and expansive with many grassy areas dotting the landscape. The access to the lake from the famous Tahoe Tavern pier is incomparable. Lastly the "Tree House" is a wonderful mixture of light, color and views that makes time spent there peaceful and serene.

Our family stayed in Tahoe Taverns "Tree House" over the Labor Day weekend in 2016. It has a cozy, homelike feel with a fireplace for a chilly night, a ceiling fan for the rare occasion that might get too warm, and a deck for reading, relaxing, or just gazing at the stars while nestled among the swaying Aspens. It can be a relaxing place, or a comfortable home base for biking, hiking, shopping or dining at nearby resturants.
"Tree House" is nicely appointed, clean, and flexibly designed. Two bathroom, a kitchen and three bedrooms make it a great spot for family get-togethers.
The owner, Bill, was gracious, helpful, and even gave us some of the unique history associated with Tahoe Taverns and his personal history at "Tree House".
I recommend "Tree House" for family gatherings, but like all of the condos, it is two stories, so keep that in mind if you have someone who can't do stairs.
Our little family -- three adults and three pre-teen kids -- just spent a wonderful week at the Tree House. It was a treat, especially given the owner's historic family ownership of the house, his care for it, and his guidance about how to get the most out of our Lake Tahoe stay. This isn't the fanciest, most modern house in Tahoe Tavern, but it's got good, warm bones -- and everything worked. It really offered great value for high season. It's a short walk to the pool and the pier, which is a centerpiece of community activity. It's bright, light, cool, and breezy with the doors and windows open -- and its deck overlooks the always busy tennis courts. Traffic in Tahoe City can get a little crazy at different times of day. So the option of an easy walk (or bike ride) into town became a pleasant alternative. Thumbs up for the Tree House!
Our stay at the Tree House was really nice. The Tahoe Tavern property is well maintained, has tennis courts and a pool and is within easy walking distance of Tahoe City and the Truckee River. The unit itself is is comfortable; the only downside is that there's no A/C, which was a slight problem for us during an unusually hot week, but which I gather is not typically an issue in Tahoe. All in all, I'd highly recommend!
Our extended family stayed at the Tahoe Taverns Tree House late June, and it is the perfect home base for all the summer activities in Tahoe. Tahoe Tavern has a special and long history with our family. And staying at the Tree House reminded me of why we love this place. First is location, location, location. With how crazy traffic can get around the shore, I love how everything is within biking range. Also the Tahoe Taverns dock was quite convenient when we wanted to rent a boat for the day, and we could pick up the rest of the family at the dock. If we were not on the lake, we were in the pool; both the dock and the pool at Tahoe Taverns are staffed with lifeguards, which was reassuring when you are monitoring 3 kids. We also appreciated easy access to the tennis courts and running trails for my brother - the avid distance off-road runner. The condo is nicely appointed and clean, perfect for an active family of seven. The owner was quite communicative and responsive to questions. Just after our arrival, he popped over to introduce himself and check on whether we needed anything. We had a wonderful time and hope to be back again soon.
My family and I had the pleasure of spending Labor Day weekend last year at the "Tree House," and I have been meaning all that time to write a review of how absolutely lovely it is. If you grew up in the area and visited Tahoe as a child, this is the Tahoe you remember. If you are from out of state or another country, and want to experience Tahoe as a local, this is your spot. This is a lovingly maintained family home, with plenty of space for two families to spread out and enjoy. Tahoe Tavern offers amenities such as a pool and tennis, and there is of course the lake just steps away. Commons Beach in (walkable) Tahoe City has a farmers market and open-air concerts, and right across the street from the community is the fabulous café Tahoe House. The owners are easy to deal with and communication is straightforward and timely. Cannot recommend highly enough...thanks for a great stay!
We have been renting at Tahoe Taverns since the 70s; our children grew up going there. There are many things to do in the area. Tahoe City has resisted the tacky type of development seen in many places.
We have stayed at the Tree House many times over the years, and it is a great unit in probably the best rental property in Tahoe.
Will is great at taking care of things from the rental arrangements to the information he gives you about the area.
