Beautiful property and the most amazing sunsets!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with our two 65-lb dogs for one month in summer of 2015. We all loved it. The treehouse and grounds are well-designed, the vegetable and flower gardens gorgeous, the beach and bay peaceful, and the sunsets totally incomparable--we ended almost every day with, "Oh my, another amazing sunset." And Don cannot be surpassed as a gracious, laid-back host. He allowed our dogs free roam (but under supervision because the main road isn't far away), encouraged us to eat anything from his artistic and abundant garden (it was a bounty we enjoyed almost every day!!), and provided information and help whenever we needed it. The house is well-stocked and has good storage for long-term stays. For potential renters looking for privacy, be aware you share the same property and yard with the main house, and the two neighbors on each side are close but seem to be weekend homes. Although the main house is in front of the treehouse facing the bay, our view was not compromised, and the two sets of renters were very friendly and tolerant of us and our dogs; we tried to time our garden / beach visits during times they were away so as to give them privacy as well. We enjoyed wine and books at the picnic table overlooking the garden and bay. And oh, the raspberries!!! Although the main, busy road isn't far away, the treehouse is set down the driveway through a little forest that helps mask the noise. For dog owners, know the yard is fenced toward neighbors but open to bay or main road. Our only con was the July 4 fireworks that neighbors shot off at all hours for several days. Bellingham is a short ten-minute drive with a fabulous farmers market and many dog-friendly hikes; and day trips abound in any direction (Seattle, Vancouver, San Juans, Cascades, etc.). And the local fish is superb. We would highly recommend Don's treehouse and miss it--almost one year later!!

Wonderful place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, daughter and I stayed and absolutely loved it. The views are amazing and beach was so much fun, we looked for crabs and starfish. It was nice nobody else was on the beach. They did a great job with the tree house, it was very comfortable. Loved sitting on the deck having dinner. Unfortunately we had to leave early because of a family emergency but had a great time while we were there. Maybe we can go back soon to finish our stay!

My husband and I stayed here for a few days. It was wonderful! Waking up to the views of the bay were amazing. We hope to venture back to the little treehouse in the summer.

Beautiful Unit ...

  • 3 of 5

My husband and I stayed at the Treehouse to celebrate our anniversary. We found the unit to be gorgeous; granite counter tops, slate floor tile inside and out. The bedroom was large with a comfortable bed. The entire unit was clean and the bathroom had plenty of towels and storage for your personal items. The directions for the steam shower are easy to follow. It includes a dishwasher and washer & dryer. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook. (When we were popping popcorn we found that there was no salt. We texted the owners and they brought some to us! Awesome response time.) For our weekends away we usually elect to stay in and play board games, read or watch movies. We did find those activities challenging in this unit. While it was gorgeous it wasn't practical for our style. There was no kitchen table in the unit, only outside. We stayed in the Fall so it was too cold to eat outside. (They did have a gas powered, portable outdoor heater on the deck outside, so it is possible to be outside while it's cold.) The television was situated between two beautiful windows which made it easy to enjoy the beach view but not-so-easy to view the screen because of the glare. There is a built in sofa which is the only place to sit inside in the main living area. It is built in under gorgeous windows. All the windows make for awesome outdoor views but it also means that to view t.v. you had to lean against the wall and the window which was uncomfortable. There was a butcher block type table on wheels inside but it didn't have room to put your feet under the table like you would for a proper kitchen table. The owners were friendly, attentive and hands-off at the same time. This unit is suited for summer stays or for those who use it as a stopping place for an outdoor activities weekend. We enjoyed the steam shower, the gorgeous view, the beach, and easy driving directions.

Owner's Response: Sorry we missed the salt. I wish I had known you were having trouble using the butcher block table I would have shown you how to lift the two leafs which allows two chairs to slide under or we could have brought the teak table and a couple of chairs in from outside. The sliding doors open the whole front of the house so it’s easy to move in. Also we do have a card table for use if the round table isn't suitable. Most folks close the curtains to block the tv’s glare or watch it in the bedroom where it’s darker. Wish we could have addressed that while you were here. We want our guests to be comfortable.

This was one of the best and well appointed vacation rentals I have ever stayed in ! I have done vacation rentals for years and I know what to look for and this "Treehouse" has it all. We were visiting relatives in Bellingham and this place was perfect. We loved walking on the beautiful beach with our dog and seeing the sights around the area. Kathy and Don are great and greeted us warmly. We found out that there are people we both know in common from our travels in Central America. My favorite part of the condo was the window seat in the bedroom where I could look out over the bay as I read. The steam shower was fabulous and have thought about putting one in my own home now, just loved it. We even have enough room to have four of our family members over for dinner. Although it rained most of the time, we still had a great time and will definitely be back !

We just returned from this Paradise! WOW! Everything was exactly as stated! Close to parks, hiking and exploring. And when the day was done, the steam shower was a vacation in itself! Although we missed out on any sunsets, the view was spectacular and oh so quiet and relaxing!! This place has it all and close to Bellingham and Fred Meyer (yes, we are fans)! We plan to return! Thank you Don!
