Everything you need for your stay at the Lake
The Cox Family
About The Cox Family
We are Amber & Todd Cox. We have 3 young children who are very active in sports and in the community in which we live. Todd grew up coming to Lake Sara every weekend in the summers and made some great memories in which he will never forget. Now we are doing that for our children. We come when we are able to but unfortunately, it is not as often as we would like due to their busy schedules. Therefore, we rent it out as a vacation rental so families and friends can experience the joy that we and our family gets when we come to the lake. There is nothing better than coming to Lake Sara, relaxing with family and friends, and making amazing memories you'll never forget! We strive to make this a home away from home and we look forward to having you stay

A little disappointed
Excited for a last minute getaway to lake Sara for our Anniversary/ family time. Upon arrival I noticed that the grill was still broken and very dirty. My husband had to clean it before we could use it. The outdoor table was still there with plywood covering the middle part and had weeds growing on it. The inside was cute, but by the time we pulled out the sleeper sofa there was no room for a sleeping bag. There was no wifi signal and only one remote for both televisions. It took awhile to figure out how the televisions worked. There was plenty of dishes and everything we needed to prepare meals. The place is really more suited for 2 to 3 people to move around comfortably. A big plus was it was pet friendly. Neighbors were very nice and the campground was very quiet.
Thanks for the review. I have it listed as 4 people because each bed can sleep 2 people total. Yes, once the soda sleeper is pulled out in living room there is no room for additional sleeping arrangements. We had just brought another table for out on the deck this season as well so there are multiple choices for seating.
Wonderful little house for a perfect weekend get away.
The house was everything I hoped it would be. Clean, well stocked, sparkling clean dishes and a great location. Well worth the money and it is dog friendly! We will definitely rent this again!
Thank you for your positive review. We are so happy to hear it was everything you hoped it would be. We will look forward to hearing from you in the future!
Less than glamping
What a dump!
Lots in disrepair and wasps on the bathroom
Hello, right after your stay we had someone fully pressure wash the entire unit so all the wasps are gone. We also fixed some other stuff in and around the rental after your date of arrival. We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay.
Lake SaraCampground itself is a nice little "neighborhood" filled with helpful folks who were courteous and quiet. The rental, though, needs a little TLC.
The mattress - and its bed linens - was abysmal. It felt like someone stuffed a dozen pillows in a sack and sewed it up.
The attempt at room darkening shades was just tacky: clothes pinning an extra sheet over the vertical blinds? The darkening shades ARE NEEDED, but go ahead and spring for the real deal.
Sliding closet doors off the rails? Disappointed that such a simple fix was not performed before guests arrived.
The much touted sound system was a tangled mess of cables and cords in the livingroom. Touch one cable accidentally, and the internet/cable box falls off the small shelf, leaving the viewer in the dark. Untangling the mess was impossible. Thankfully a simple unplug/replug restored cable and internet access - just don't touch anything or it will go out again.
The photo is misleading. There is no canoe or kayak.
The key to the unit was located in a wasp infested, rusty grill. Imagine my surprise when four of the little buggers swarmed me when I opened the lid.
On the plus side, the building itself is structurally sound and has a good layout with great built-in storage. Plus, additional lighting has been added in the kitchen and bedrooms - greatly appreciated. The cabinet under the kitchen sink was well stocked with cleaning supplies. However, the unit could have used some wasp spray since they nested in the grill and seemed to come out of the bathroom ventilation system when the vent blower was switched on. That might have been just weird hiding place. I don't know if they were nesting in there.
All in all, great marks for the campground (although I did not use its showers or laundry). This would be a better rental with more regular upkeep. Based on the written instructions from the non-local owners, it appears each renter is supposed to prep the unit for the next guest. The only thing that appears to be done between guests is changing linens.
Thanks for your review. The closet was recently fixed. The home recently has also been pressure washed and all wasps gone. Yes, we need a new grill. Being so late in season, we plan on doing in spring since campground closes soon. Yes, like all vacation rentals you leave the rental nearly as you found it. We pay our cleaner to clean...not straighten up after guests. If that has to happen, we charge extra.
I apologize about a cluster of cords...this has been a first I've heard of this. I'll make sure to check it out.
Sorry you did not enjoy the mattress. It is nearly impossible to satisfy every guest as far as comfort of mattress style (firm vs. Soft)
Yes, there is no kayak on property. This is mentioned online. Unfortunately people from the campground kept stealing the paddles so it was unusable there anyways.
Sorry the rental wasnt up to your standards. We have tried to fix all the things a previous renter mentioned. If you are ever back in the area, come check it out again. I promise you'll be pleased with the fixes we've done.
Not as advertised. Wish I could post MY pictures! No wonder they offer NO REFUNDS!
I contacted the owners to inquire about early check in, and told them we would NOT be bringing our dog, and asked about refunding the $25 dog deposit. The response was "I can look into it online". Upon our arrival I was disappointed in the cleanliness of the whole place. The gas grill, which holds the key to get in, was missing the handle, the grates were beyond rusted and made the grill un-usable. When I opened the lid there were hornets guarding their nest the size of a baseball inside the grill. There was a weber grill with no lid, rusted grate, and no charcoal/starter fluid. When we opened the door to the camper, the smell of air fresheners almost knocked us out! We tossed six empty ones in the trash and opened the windows to air the place out. The blinds were broken and had to be pulled by hand to open. It was very evident that no one had been here, nor cleaned in months! The closet doors in the bedroom were busted, they were leaning in the closet along with extra lumber, making the closet un-usable. The screen door in the bedroom, was missing, (later found between the camper and deck) the blinds were broken, the curtains that were 2 feet short of the floor were covered up by a sheet held in place with clothespins. The fan dumped piles of dust/cobwebs onto the bed, and made so much noise it was un-usable. There were spiderwebs/cobwebs covering everything. The bathroom had spiders in EVERY corner, along with 3 hornets on the ceiling. I slipped on the wonky tub floor and almost fell. We spoke to a few very nice people in the campground that informed us we were staying in "the dump". The owners were known to them, but rarely ever seen. The cable service was sketchy at best, we had to fiddle with wires to pull a tv signal, and the wifi dropped off regularly. There was NO kayak on the property. The patio furniture and deck were covered in debris and mud, and also had hornet nests hidden on the bottom of the chairs. The grass and weeds needed to be cut, the poison ivy killed, and last years leaves removed from the yard. The christmas lights on the deck were broken, & hanging and looked very tacky. The camper looked abandoned and in need of repairs. The campground was awesome, and the lake offered us 2 days of spectacular fishing. We couldn't tie up at the camper dock because it was being rebuilt. The lake was packed with people and boats on Sunday, however it was quiet Monday and Tuesday. Overall I feel this place is neglected and overpriced.
Well, so much for you pet deposit refund! You're at the lake! There are bugs. I was just there the week after you were there and things were great. You come to the lake to play, relax, enjoy and unwinde. If you think $99/night was a rip off at the lake then maybe you should have gotten an overpriced hotel with none of these amentities. Good grief.
The property was perfect for what we were looking for on a quick weekend getaway.
I would definitely recommend this property. The only issue (and it wasn't too big of a deal) was the blinds on living room doors go the wrong direction so you have to walk through them when walking in and out. Other than that, all was great! :)
Yes we realized this as of recently and have decided to change them out. Thanks for your review! Hope you had a great time
