Suzanne Paidl purchased this cabin in 1995
Easy drive from Chicago found nature at its very best.
1 mile off major highway. Scenic location overlooking Lake with an abundance of wildlife including eagles, deer, loons, swans, turkeys, fox, pheasents, small birds and much more.
I could go on and on about this cabin. I do not have one negative thing to say. It's perfect. House fully stocked with everything just bring the food! Very clean, well kept, lots of space so again all I can say is perfect!
My Fiance and I visited the property with our dog over the New Years holiday, and had a wonderful time. The cabin is beautiful, well maintained, and very clean. The view from the main double height space is absolutely STUNNING! We also enjoyed hiking around the property (even though it was super cold) and really enjoyed the entire experience! We were playing around with a new camera, and were able to get several shots of at least three different types of water fowl. There was a hawk flying around too, but sadly we weren't able to get a shot of him. There is a fireplace that we used pretty much the entire time we were there - and the Owner's were kind enough to provide plenty of nice dry wood for our use.
This was the second time we visited the property - the first was in February 2016. Both times we really enjoyed our stay, and the Sue was very responsive and friendly to all of our queries before the trip.
The kitchen is pretty well stocked. We cooked at the cabin for all of our meals. I brought my own knives, cutting board, and pan for making brownies. Glad I did, but we would've managed without. There is also a crock pot in one of the cabinets.
There is a master bedroom with 2 beds upstairs, and a bedroom downstairs with two beds and also two fold-up beds in the closet. There is an addition that also has bunk beds and a game room - but I don't think it has HVAC.
All in all, I highly recommend this property. I hope to stay there in the summertime, I'm sure it is fantastic as well.
Thank you Sue and Richard for the great visit!
My husband and I spent a week at the Paidls beautiful log cabin in Cedar River, MI.
The property is peaceful and very quiet. We spent a great deal of time on the deck and used the hammock that is perfectly situated near the lake.
The king sized bed in the Master bedroom was quite comfortable. I would suggest that you may want to bring your own pillows. We forgot ours but there were many to choose from, since it was just the two of us.
There is a spice rack in the kitchen, coffee maker, crock pot and various pots and pans. We cooked the majority of our meals. We did venture out to the Stone House in Escanaba and Hereford and Hops, also in Escanaba. We had great meals at both places and felt the prices were quite reasonable.
Look for the book that the Paidls put together to see how the home was built as well as the many activities in the area. Big Springs Kitch-iti-kipi is not to be missed. Absolutely beautiful.
Though we did not meet the Paidls, Sue is very responsive. She took suggestions readily and I am quite sure she will follow through on a few minor details we mentioned to her. None of our minor issues were deal breakers in any way and we would not discourage anyone from staying here. Quite the contrary.
If you are seeking a place by the water that is spacious, quiet and very peaceful, we recommend this home situated on Lake Michigan's Green Bay. You will leave feeling refreshed.
My wife and I returned to this wonderful cabin for our second stay and had an absolutely GREAT visit again!
We could hardly wait to come back up here from Kentucky and boy were we glad we could!! The Paidls once again proved to be the most gracious host and hostess as owners of the property and could not have been more helpful
and friendly. Everything we needed was provided and then some! The weather was lovely for our stay and we are definitely returning next year...can hardly wait to come back again!!! Thanks to Suzanne and Richard!

This is a comfortable home in an absolutely beautiful location. We used it as "command central" for our son's Escanaba wedding. Only our immediate family stayed -- but extended family spent much time with us as they could. There was plenty of seating for outdoor dining. The hammock was a BIG hit. The "kids" played yard games such as horseshoes & croquet. We loved the fire pit and the incredible star-gazing. Sue even included firewood! The kitchen is stocked pretty well. (As a veteran of many vacation rentals, I took my own good knives, and was glad for them.) The only drawback for us was that, although there are two bathrooms, there is only one shower, and that one is in the "master" bedroom. If we were hanging out on vacation it wouldn't have been a big issue. But for five of us trying to get ready for a wedding, it was a bit of a challenge.
We are already discussing when we might gather our family together in Escanaba again!
We had our family reunion at Sue's beautiful home. We were a large group - we used every bed available! - and the house was large enough to give everyone space. The view is incredible. There was no beach at the property, but the kids went a couple miles down the road to Fox Park and that worked out just fine. Since the weather was perfect, we spent a lot of time outside with several places to gather - on the deck, in the gazebo, and of course at the fire pit. We even had a visit from an eagle, which seemed appropriate on the 4th of July weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return!
