The Atascadero neighborhood is one of the safest in San Miguel. This complex lends itself to active living.
San Miguel is a UNESCO World Heritage City and touted 'Number One City in the World' by Conde Nast and the New York Times. Theaters for film, jazz, classical, Latin, music fests and performances, classes in sculpting, painting, pottery, stained glass abound, Hot springs are a short ride out of town. Horse back riding nearby. There are numerous language schools and private tutors.
There is a bi-lingual library with a gourmet restaurant and theater. There are house tours, walking tours, out-of-town tours. Most people walk to the Center, but there are buses and taxis 1 block away, and Taxis are about $2.50 all over Centro Historico. (Buses are 5 pesos and taxis are 35 pesos.)
Sorry, no animals, no smoking.
Retired as Executive Director of three non-profits and management analyst since 2006; moved to San Miguel, bought the condo and live part time between here and California. My health and vigor improved greatly since moving to San Miguel.
Carol Lopes purchased this condo in 2007
The complex itself is safe and relatively quiet since we're near the center of town, yet somewhat back and up from it. The neighbors are amiable and considerate. The workers are all trusted and helpful. As a single woman, I feel completely safe here.
Close to the jardin, (centro) and on one of the most beautiful streets in the city; near the botanical gardens and Balcones, the (balconies) or upper hills of San Miguel. All windows are double paned, new refurbishing updates have been added in the last year. Close to great restaurants, music, chamber music, bakeries, shopping, coffee shops, yoga, pilates, hiking trails, quad bikes, films, theaters, etc. There's a lot to do in SMA, whatever suits your taste.
The location if good. The price is right. The unit is damp and cool in January, even with the Blue Flame Heater.
Be prepared for a lot of exterior stairs from the parking area to the door of the unit. Pack light.
Initial reception less than welcoming: No English speaking greeter (as promised); two empty garafons (water containers); wireless internet didn't work; bathroom sink not draining; shower handle falling off. There was no response from owner on issues (her cell phone was dead), but she did appear, unannounced, near our bed-time, not to welcome us, but for her own personal reasons.
While the repairs were made early in our stay over numerous visits, as renters, we prefer issues are identified before we arrive, so we can avoid all the intrusions. Expected the scheduled weekly maid service at 7:15 one morning, so got up earlier than usual, but the cleaner didn't show. When we called the owner and hour later, and woke her up, she told us it'd be a different day. We wished she'd have let us know the change in schedule, so we could have risen at a later time. We then opted to have no maid service during our stay.
The number one reason we selected rental was for pool, but unfortunately it was closed for maintenance the day we arrived and opened the day we left (2 weeks). No fault of the owner, simply our loss.
There's a DVD player, but it doesn't play American versions.
The owner is great to communicate with prior to visiting, but interacting with her in person regarding issues we found her to be less than understanding.
I chose to stay in this super cute apartment while I was looking for a long-term place to stay in San Miguel and I absolutely loved it! Check-in was very easy as the property manager lives on-site. The apartment was as pictured but I think that it was actually better than pictured. I have stayed in a few places in San Miguel and i thought that this one was one of the best in terms of how it was decorated, quality of the furnishings and just overall comfiness. I was there during one of the colder months and it was great to have the nice, new heater that the owner had just installed. The complex also has a pool and gym which is very rare for San Miguel so that was definitely a plus. Although I didn't use the gym because I thought I got in my daily exercise walking up to the apartment as it is a bit steep but if you don't feel like walking taxis are plentiful and cheap so not much of a problem. Another big plus for me was how peaceful and quiet the place is and that it is a gated complex so I always felt very safe and secure as a single woman traveling alone. All in all, I would definitely recommend this place to those wishing to enjoy all the wonderful things that San Miguel has to offer.
We spent 3 weeks at this cosy apartment. The pictures are excellent, as it is exactly as pictured. It is small, but enough room for a couple. We got off to a somewhat rocky start due to the owner not being able to vacate the apartment on the night we were scheduled to arrive due to an illness. However, she booked and paid for us to stay elsewhere that night, although it was a suboptimal accommodation due to being last minute. She also more than made up for this start by being a sweet kind person.
The location is on the hill above town a bit, so if you desire to walk back and forth a lot, be aware of the walk uphill back up to the apartment. Or a cab will take you back up cheaply, and it's generally easy to find a cab.
The bed is very comfy. The kitchen was quite well equipped, if you wanted to cook some meals there, as we occasionally did. it was quite cool when we were there, so we did not have the opportunity to try the pool. All in all, an enjoyable stay!
You feel like at home, the place its perfect for one or two people. Pictures show the place the way it is, everything is clean also someone goes once a week to do the cleaning. The owner its very helpful, there is a swimming pool and a gym so I'd recomend the place to other friends. Important to know you have to climb some stairs. I suggest visiting while being in San Miguel: el Mercado de Artesanias, Mercado Orgánico (Sunday), Orquidiario (just accross the condo), Museo del Juguete and try the "tacos de jícama" at Pueblo Viejo
This place had everything! Beauty, peace, covenience and comfort. Highly recommend it to a couple with energy for climbing. Very efficient maintenance and excellent security. Condo comes equipped to meet all needs.
We absolutely loved staying at this charming condo in central San Miguel. The location is perfect -- a quick walk to restaurants, shops, and sites, but on a quiet street away from the noise of buses and traffic. We were happy to have such a well-appointed kitchen to cook in, and we thoroughly enjoyed the amazing gas fireplace on chilly nights. The king bed was so comfortable it was difficult to leave in the morning, and the steady hot water and water pressure was a luxury (definitely not ubiquitous in Mexico). The decor is lovely -- a mix of traditional Mexican (like the incredible tiled bathroom) and contemporary. Our hostess was very communicative. We cannot recommend this property enough and hope we have the opportunity to return in the future!
