I live in Canada and am the owner of a maison-de-village in La Garde near Toulon, where I spent a sabbatical 34 years ago and liked it so much that I subsequently bought the house. A retired professor of Classics, I spend part of the summer in La Garde, and rent the house to reliable tenants for the rest of the year. ******** Je vis au Canada et je suis le propriétaire de la maison de village de la Garde (près de Toulon). We liked it so much we stayed for a few years.
Highly recommended. Our family (five) spent four years here and loved it.
The house itself is nice and practical: there was a bedroom each for our three children, spread out over two floors. The kitchen and bathrooms have been remodeled and are in excellent condition. There is also an attic which served as an office, study room, and for storage.
The location is ideal: the house is in the center of the old village, which has a pleasing atmosphere. Everything is quite close: shopping, public transportation, and the train station. Our second year we bought a car and it was no trouble to park it. The bakery and market (Tuesday, Friday, Saturday) are a thirty second walk.
Our children attended all levels of school (the equivalent of the American elementary, middle, and high school) and we were happy with the quality of their education.
The town of La Garde is between and close to Toulon and Hyeres; the beaches are close and scenic. If you travel you’re equidistant from the airports in Nice or Marseille
The owners are quite nice, very responsive to any issues, and they have a contractor who lives nearby in case there are problems.
