Are you looking for something a little more exclusive to a great price?
Rustic Villa Azores offers a private house in a "closed condominium" with a 7000 m2 garden. The house is 270 m2 and was built in 1986, on the slopes, overlooking the charming village of Vila Franca do Campo. The garden is full of fruit and flowers, and a joy in it self. Giant, delicious avocados, potatoes, lettuce, tomato, fresh herbs, mango, passion fruit, banana... It is all bio products that you are welcome to take advantage of!
The area is fenced in with electrically operated wrought iron gate.
The building style is rustic with details from marbles, natural stone and tiles. Breakfast patio with stone table and benches under a pergola, outside the kitchen.
80 m2 outside terrace to the south, 110 meters above sea level, with charcoal grill, dining table and an outside lounge.
The master bedroom has direct access to the terrace. Two guest rooms with common toilet and bath room downstairs. The house also has a library with the possibility of adding a bed.
Vila franca do Campo is 15 minutes by car from Ponta Delgada, and the village offers all the ocean and land activities that you find in the capital city.
Golfing in São Miguel is also an experience: There are two fantastic golf courses. Batalha course with 27 holes and Furnas course with 18 holes. These courses are never crowded and you can enjoy a relaxed game of golf. Normally you don't need to book tee time. You reach both golf courses within 20 minutes drive from Vila Franca. Most other ocean/land activities are available in Vila Franca Do Campo, the village below the house.
I do recommend the whale and dolphin safaris, hiking, diving, sailing, surfing, horse back riding, cooking in the ground and of course taking advantage of the island and it's amazing beauty. The Azores was actually voted the most beautiful place in the world, by National Geographic.
I do assure you that our house will make the experience even better.
I love the Azores. I was born in Sweden but live here already for many years.
Rustic Villa Azores purchased this villa in 1985
I spent all my summers growing up in this house.
I will share with you all the little secrets the island has to offer ;)
The house and surrounding property is amazing. We have stayed on the Island before but this property and Emilie's hospitality should not be missed. From the amazing vistas, catered meals, restutants recommendations and ideally situated acess to the island it would be difficult to recommend another property. We did blow a fuse which was addressed in a very timely fashion. We truly felt like we were at our own home....Our family on the island also raved about or accommodations!
The villa is outdated and not in good shape. Getting there is a real hassle. Weird smell throughout.
The property was exactly as described and the pictures did not do the views enough justice! Great location and Emilie, the owner, was awesome. She showed us all the island highlights, restaurants and was very welcoming overall. We would absolutely book this property again.
I have traveled all over the world using vacation home rentals. I like them for their pride of ownership and the privacy that they afford. This one had neither.
The entire lower level had a very unclean odor. There were two bedrooms and a bathroom that became unusable due to the gagging smell. We were confined to the top level. We had partial use of a whole rental property, not a good thing. The house itself is not well maintained. Some of the light bulbs and switches did not work. Some of the lamps did not have light bulbs. There were cracks, peeling, and stains on the walls and floors of the interior. The house is older, but damage like the large water stain on the floor should be addressed before renters arrive.
The bed was hard as a rock, just like the rest of the furniture. For example, the couch was a thin foam cushion on a wooden bench. It was very uncomfortable to sit or lay down anywhere. There are no screens on the windows and doors; so wind, noise, and bugs were constantly coming inside. We needed to open the windows and turn on a very small fan to try and dissipate the foul smell. The dishwasher left residue on the dishes.
The driveway was very narrow, curved, and steep. You had to reverse out, rapidly turn the car around, and then go forward down the long hill. The steps in the house are winding, so that they are hard to navigate for elderly and disabled people. The view is simply not worth the inconveniences.
As a family of 6, we spent a short but wonderful week in the villa. Besides its fabulous view, which allow sunny and long breakfasts before starting for a long tourist day, the house offers a very nice family atmosphere, so everybody was pleased to spend time there.
Emilie's welcomed us with very useful and nice tips about places to go and things to do. Among them, we tried the "cozido", a traditional and delicious dish cooked in the hot earth of Furnas lake, which allowed us to discover the azorean lovely cooking with herbs and vegetables from the garden.
Vila Franca is very conveniently located to visit all the interesting spots, sea, lakes and hikes, and has quite a little charm of its own.
We loved our stay at this gorgeous home in Villa Franca do Campo! The house itself was lovely, spacious and comfortable, set up on a hill overlooking the sweet town below and the ocean beyond. We were a party of 8, comprised of 2 families with a total of 4 children; the home was quite big enough for us all and can easily accommodate a large group. The house was well-equipped, with a full kitchen including any items you might need and a functioning washing machine. Emilie was a wonderful host; she is very organized and thoughtful. She met us at the nearby gas station and then showed the way to her home. From there she made sure we had everything we needed and had even left the kitchen with food (including delicious local jam and cheese!). She was so very gracious and spent quite a while telling us about all the best places to go in the island. Our favorite destinations and activities were not mentioned in the guidebook... they were recommendations from her! The location of the home is near the center of the island, which was great for being able to explore sites on both the east and west sides of the island... and so many beautiful places there are to explore on Sao Miguel! Our favorite activity was to fill a large cooking pot with cozido items (cabbage, carrots, potatoes, sausage, etc.), collect an old sheet, scissors and twine, and bring these items to Furnas (all supplies are at the villa!). At Furnas, for 3 euros the folks there will deposit your cooking pot into a geothermal vent... where your dinner will cook for hours (4 hours vegetarian... 6 hours with meat). They remove your pot and there you have a naturally cooked, delicious traditional dinner! Thank you for the suggestion, Emilie!
Vila Franca is the old capital with ancient beautiful buildings. The infrastructure is good with super markets, hospital, restaurants etc. Beaches of various sizes incl. one child safe in the middle of Vila Franca. No dangerous currents along the coast.
V.F. has got a micro climate, warmer and more sunny than the rest of the island.
V.F.is strategically placed on the south coast on the middle of the island, with its overwhelming nature all around it.
In the summer, a shuttle commutes to the volcano tip 1/2 mile outside V.F. where you can have a swim in the lagoon. An Aqua Park with various slides and cafeterias is a youth entertainment.
Whale and dolphin safaris can be hired from the well built up Yachting Marina.
Regular and cheap bus connections to the rest of the island.
