About Mt. Shasta Vacation Rentals

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! We purchased this property in 2012 as a future retirement home after falling in love with the town of McCloud and the entire Mt. Shasta area. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Mt. Shasta Vacation Rentals purchased this chateau / country house in 2012

Why Mt. Shasta Vacation Rentals chose Shasta Cascade

As a former military brat and current businessman who travels extensively for work, I have visited many unique and exciting locations. That said, nothing compares to this property when you're ready to 'get away from it all' and simply get back to a slower, more relaxed lifestyle.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Do as much or as little as you'd like during your stay. Whatever your ideal vacation might be: a long soak in our victorian style tub, reading a great book in the hammock or by the fire, gearing up to hike the Crags or climb Mt. Shasta, enjoying Lake McCloud or simply spending quality family time in the great outdoors, the Eagle's Rest offers all of that and more, directly at your doorstep!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Hi Jeff, Great house. Wonderful for families. Great location. The beds are comfortable and sheets/towels are clean. Thanks for the fresh bread and chocolate--a nice treat. The directions provided from the management company were not specific enough. However once we found it, it's easy to find again and we definitely would like to come back soon. Are you available in the winter? Will definitely recommend your home to friends/family. Thanks for a wonderful weekend.

Amazing secluded cabin on great property. A drive away to many beautiful places to explore

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in this cabin in June with friends and all of us couldn't recommend it more. I have family in McCloud so I went there once a year as a kid and was excited to take my friends for the first time as a lot of us had 30th birthdays in June to celebrate. Short version if you don't want to read on: if you're staying in mccloud with 8 or more people, this is a no brainer, just book it now. Okay, full review below.

We fit the max amount of people allowed comfortably (I forget how many we had because trip was 5 months ago. Whatever the owners max persons allowed is, that's how many we had staying there.) And if someone extra would've had to stay the night to avoid driving home then we definitely could have made room for them as well. The bedrooms and bathrooms are on 3 separate stories so people can get ready or shower upstairs and downstairs and everyone else is hanging in the living room on the main floor. We never felt cramped for space because you're hanging outside on the deck most of the time anyways.

The property is as easy as you can hope to get to given how secluded it is. Off the main 89 highway coming into McCloud from the 5, you take a right at the main intersection. Taking a left will get you into the town of McCloud with a couple restaurants, some stores, and a pretty big grocery store selling all the essentials. After taking the right at the gas station you drive about 5 minutes past the golf course and turn onto a smaller paved road. About 5 minutes on that road and then you hit a dirt road and go another 5 on that past other people's properties. The road ends and you're at Eagle's Rest. So about 15 minute drive outside of town, easily worth it given the remote location.

The place inside is awesome, the rooms aren't huge but beds are comfy and good amount of storage space. We cooked multiple meals in the kitchen and had plenty of room to operate. The basketball hoop and ping pong table were in constant use.

The star gazing was amazing, we had drinks outside at sunset, ate breakfast outside, did everything we could out on the deck. The views from the property are amazing and you can't hear anything but a stream. Perfectly refreshing to enjoy with friends.

We drove down to Lower falls and hiked to upper one day, rented a 20 person boat on Lake Shasta one day, and hung out at Lake Siskiyou one day. All were so freaking fun, highly recommended. Drive times from cabin consistent with google maps. I'm out of review space, bye

One of the best vacations ever!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 6 stayed at the Eagles Rest cabin for a week in July. The vacation turned out to be one of our favorite of all time. Jeff & Cindy provided excellent recommendations on the area's best activities. We really enjoyed hiking Mt Shasta, jumping from "The Falls", swimming in McCloud reservoir, and visiting Lake Shasta. The spacious cabin was exceptionally clean and welcoming. We loved the rustic feel but were spoiled by all of the excellent amenities. The trails directly behind the cabin are incredible with many rewarding views of the surrounding natural beauty. The cabin feels so perfectly detached from everything, but town of Shasta is only about 10 minutes away and has all of the stores and restaurants needed. McCloud is even closer- about 3 miles away with gas, food, groceries, ice cream, pizza, liquor, golf, etc. This location offers a perfect opportunity to stay active all day or be happy doing nothing at all. We felt completely safe and comfortable every minute. Our family has traveled to many other locations, but Eagles Rest and Shasta will certainly be remembered as one of the best ever!

Heavenly relaxation in nature

  • 5 of 5

Our family joined by another family and our dogs stayed in this beautiful home for an extended weekend and could not have enjoyed ourselves more! It was clean, well kept, spacious enough for two families and had all the extra's you might need. We can't wait to go back! The hiking trails were the icing on the cake. Thank you so much for opening your beautiful home to share with others!

Cozy, cute, with Critters

  • 4 of 5

Overall impression was good. It was most certainly a secluded cabin. It was nice not to hear trains and traffic for the duration of our stay. With the seclusion came a long dirt road that makes it so. I never cursed a road so much in my life! The pot holes were absolutely horrendous. You had to be really attentive while driving this road so as not to break your neck or your suspension.

Back to the house. It was very clean and well stocked with all the essentials. The wi-fi, courtesy of satellite internet was actually pretty good speed wise. My sister saw a bear the first night... It was reassuring to know that they have a fence along the property line to keep the more adventurous bears at bay. Although the aforementioned road was not fun to drive on, it was great to walk the dogs on; we even saw a big 'ole turtle on the road. The 3rd day we had the pleasure of seeing 4 deer graze very close to the house, right near the basketball hoop.

One thing I have to mention is that my sister and her husband heard a mouse that was trapped in-between the logs in there bedroom throughout the duration of there stay. It was scraping and scratchin somewhere in the walls.

All in all it was a pleasant experience. The stargazing on the deck was also a nice treat.

peaceful weekend

  • 5 of 5

Quiet, even with a full house--it held us that well. Very comfortable and amply stocked. Beautiful setting in a peaceful meadow threaded by a gurgling stream.

Met friends for skiing and eating and games--everyone was happy. Easy to find, fine help in arranging reservation and tending to details. Would do it all over again in a heartbeat and recommend too...
