It's not difficult to understand why many young couples have chosen this estate as a site for their wedding. In fact many of our couples have chosen to stay in this cottage for their honeymoon after their wedding. So obviously you are not here to get hitched but it is the perfect vacation spot.
Let your cares drop away as the waves gently soothe you to sleep. Relax on your own private sandy beach, enjoy nature as deer, osprey, eagles, and turkey visit the property. Fish from the dock and seasonally enjoy this Garden of Eatin' as there are figs, raspberries, blackberries, grapes, apples, pears and chestnuts for the picking.
We have lovingly renovated the main house and cottage with an eye towards quality and detail. We make every effort to accomodate and cater to our guests every need making for a memorable vacation.
Cindy and Dave Ferguson purchased this cottage in 1998
The Eastern Shore is one of Marylands best kept secrets. Just sixty minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Washington and Baltimore to your private vacation located a few miles outside of the city limits of downtown Cambridge, 'The Jewel of the Eastern Shore'. Come by land, sea,or fly in to our local airport. Bring your boat, bring your horse, bring your golf clubs, and prepare yourself for a weekend or week of fun and relaxation.
This completely renovated 1000 square foot cottage located on a private 27 acre estate is nestled a mere 200 feet from the banks of the Choptank River. Whether you have had a full day of shopping and antiquing in nearby Easton, Oxford, or St. Michaels or are tired from a day of golf at the country club less than two miles from the home, or just lazing away the day on your private secluded beach the sounds of the river lapping on the shoreline will gently massage your worries away as you sleep.
This century old estate offers our guests exclusive privacy unlike your typical beachgoers. Plan however to have plenty of visitors during your stay. Horns Point is abundant with wildlife. Families of deer tend to the fallen fruits in our orchard, while restless squirrels scurry collecting nuts for their long winters nap. The American bald eagles fly high above their osprey relatives, all looking for a snack to feed their brood. Venture out for an early morning walk or run on this deserted dead end back road and you may run into our masked neighbors as they make their way back to their daytime burrow or amazed by the aerobatic maneuvers of the flying Delmarva fox squirrels, or follow the rattata sound until you reach the location of a pileated woodpecker. Every morning you can witness the aerobatic maneuvers of our duck squadron as they do an early morning flyby, or the ballet performance of a flock of Canadian geese or Great Blue Herons.
The large stately trees on this property initially captivated us and then it was the privacy, broad water vistas, gorgeous moon beam rises and wonderful sunrises. The sunsets are also beautiful as the opposite shoreline glows with the setting sun.
Thank you both for making this a wonderful week. We needed so badly to get away and this has been the perfect place. What a lovely cottage. We feel very honored to have been your 1st guests. You couldn't have been more thoughtful hosts. We will be back. Soon.
If you want to relax by the pool while watching the eagles soar above the bay, catch rockfish off the waterfront pier with your morning cup of joe, take a sunset cruise on the kayaks with in/out ease, bike safely along hard-surfaced country roads, read quietly with the hummingbirds in full view, or crab for a bushel of fun, this is the place!! And, that's what we did in just the first 24 hours!! Cindy and Dave made us feel very welcomed and were extremely accommodating! Dave even created a live box for our crabs! The waterfront property is enchanting, the cottage is lovely, and the bay provides the perfect getaway for those who want to do it all or do absolutely nothing!! It was a PLAYcation for us, in celebration of our 30th anniversary and our 55th birthdays! For dining out, there a couple of casual, waterfront options, about 10 minutes away, like the Portside Restaurant, which had delicious food that was even reasonably priced! So, if you want a low-key getaway to remind you how much fun life can be, do this!! We did and absolutely loved it!!
Great idyllic spot right on the water! We rented the cottage, which was a nice cozy location for our week away. I would caution the cottage really is appropriate only for two people. We had our 5-year-old with us and there's only one (nice) queen-size bed. There is a pull-out sofa bed in the living room but it is supremely uncomfortable. My husband and I decided to take turns each night sleeping on the sofa and sharing the bed with our daughter. Otherwise our time there was great - gorgeous pool in the backyard, hummingbirds constantly darting around, beautiful dock on the Choptank, bald eagles sometimes soaring overhead. Nice experience!
Hi all. My wife and two young children had the pleasure of staying in Dave and Cindy's cottage this past weekend. We had never rented a cottage before but decided to try something different. Boy are we glad we did! The estate is absolutely gorgeous! They take much pride in keeping the land manicured and majestic looking. The views of the Choptank River are breathtakingly beautiful with sailboats passing by all day long. We awoke at 6:30am just to watch the sun rise from the dock (my son's request). Dave informed us that there were crabs hovering around the dock and lent us a net and barrell. They even gave us a steamer pot and a quicky lesson on steaming and eating crabs. Catching and gutting crabs to eat is something the kids will never forget (me too).
There is a nice beach with clean sand, seashells and seaglass that we all loved to visit. Additionally, there is a nice and clean pool directly in front of the cottage.
Overall, the experience was A++++++. Beautiful grounds and great people. I always was afraid that i'd feel wierd about renting a cottage with the owners on site. We definitely felt very comfortable. We even had friends over for dinner and the owners were cool with it.
We also saw tons of Bald Eagles and the kids loved the frogs.
The cottage itself is clean and bigger than it looks in the pics.
In the area: The Blackwater Wildlife Refuge driving tour was great.
Thanks for the great time! We probably will not be by you again but if we were it'd be spent at your estate. I'd highly recommend to all!
This delightful home provided a happy experience for all: octogenarians to teens. Cottage provided a comfortable retreat for the elders when they wished to withdraw from the fray. The teens loved the game room. The house is spacious and well appointed, the grounds and setting on the river a visual delight. The hosts, Cindy and Dave are the tops.
The entire experience was wonderful. The cottage was lovely and very comfortable. We sat on the beach, fished off the dock and swam in the beautiful pool. The grounds were vast and meticulously cared for. While we sat on the beach and the dock we watched Osprey, Bald Eagles, and King Fishers to name a few. We were lucky with fishing as well being able to hook 3 Striper/Rockfish - although they were not large enough to keep - and 5 Perch. All in all a fun, relaxing 3 days. Dave and Cindy were the best Host and Hostess!!! We will be returning!!
We decided to stay in Dave & Cindy's cottage for a couple of different reasons. First, it isn't too far away from where my oldest is stationed. Second, the pictures make it look like a beautiful, relaxing place to stay. Third, the reviews all have nothing but good things to say. And last, it is pet friendly. We ended up having 4 adults & 1 teenager (so 5 adult size people) and 2 small dogs spending a few days together. The property is beautiful & there's something for everyone to do. We enjoyed long walks around the wooded area, the beach, the dock, and grapevines. Our dogs loved it. The pool is right outside the door & was great for a refreshing swim or sunbathing. I loved sitting in the swing & watching the water. Both of my sons kayaked, but only for a short amount of time because one of them broke his wrist shortly before we came & was in a cast. They fished a little, but they are not very patient & didn't catch anything. Dave & Cindy (& their family) were very nice, accommodating, & understanding as we ended up having to leave our dogs (inside of the cottage in their crate) for several hours while we went to baseball games, sightseeing, & shopping. My family likes to be on the go so we relaxed a little & were on the go a lot. I have 2 reasons I gave this a 4 instead of a 5. The 1st is the AC kept every room cool, except the bedroom. At night, we shut the bedroom door, placed the floor fan in there, & opened the windows so that helped. We didn't complain because it wasn't unbearable for us. The other reason is because the overview states it is 60 minutes from Baltimore & DC. I emailed before booking & asked about how long it takes to get to Baltimore & the response was an hour & 15 minutes. Unfortunately, the only way to those places takes an hour & 45 minutes (good traffic). With 5 of us, everyone had different places they wanted to go & the travel time caused some issues. This is not Dave & Cindy's fault & they may know a different way to get to those places, but GPS & Mapquest both takes you on an hour & 45 minute route. On the positive side, the Bay Bridge is amazing & a little scary. If you want a beautiful, relaxing vacation & plan on enjoying the cottage & grounds this is definitely the place for you. If we ever take a trip to just relax, we will be visiting this cottage again. Thank you so much Dave & Cindy for sharing your lovely piece of the world with us.
We are right next door to the famous University of Maryland Horn Point Bay Research facility. This is the location where they are growing oysters to repopulate the Chesapeake Bay. they do offer tours, check on their website at www.umces.edu/hpl.
