The deck of this 2 bedroom/2 bath property looks out over Robb Field with open space and athletic fields. Behind this is the San Diego River with bike paths and Mission Bay to the North. Ocean Beach has been described as the place where the sun sets on San Diego, and the sunsets are phenomenal. It is centrally located in coastal San Diego with easy access via both Interstate 5 and 8.
Our home is located on the North edge of Ocean Beach, a small beach community of San Diego and is one of the most relaxed places in all of Southern California. It is one cool and hip place that is very laid back. OB, as it is known, received the 2015 Certificate of Excellence award from TripAdvisor. It is a self contained community with excellent restaurants, markets, shops, bars and craft beer. It is home to the longest concrete pier on the west coast, where fishing is legal without a license.
Voltaire Street is two blocks from our home and home to several convenience stores, bars and restaurants. Newport avenue, the Main Street business area is a short walk, in fact you can stroll along the beach to get there.
Within 2 blocks, there is a noodle house, bistro, sandwich shop, pizza & bakery There are also three restaurants on the corner less than a block away.
There is a bike path that goes along the San Diego River and Mission Bay. I have also ridden my bike to downtown San Diego and circumnavigated San Diego Bay. The latter is called the Big Bay Bike Route.
The kitchen has many handy appliances, including a cuisinart, juicer, blender, & crockpot.
The deck has a swing, couch, and hot tub. You can view Sea World fireworks from the hot tub. Please note that children under 6 are not allowed in the spa.
There is also a large shared area that includes a coin operated laundry room. There you can meet my friendly long-term tenants from the other three units. This area is fenced with a gate that opens to the park & bike path so you never have to take your dog along the street as you go to the beach together.

We have lived in this area since 1969 when we arrived on a sailboat and decided that Ocean Beach was our spiritual home.
Chris Blair purchased this bungalow in 1989
We bought this property because we wanted to walk to the beach. Also, Ocean Beach has been home to people who value lifestyle over money. I think it's the beachiest town in California.
We like this property because it backs up to the park and so it faces a lot of open space
So many things to love about this rental. First off - location. The front door faces the green expanse of Robb Field, and it's just a few minutes walk to the bike path that edges the estuary on the San Diego River and Dog Beach. Plus, all that OB has to offer is within walking distance or at the most a short drive. The apartment is comfortable and homey, with all the amenities, as well as a deck with a swing that got a lot of use while I was there. And if you have a well behaved dog, like I do, it's perfect for your pup - beach walks and playtime with other dogs were a daily activity for us. Lastly, the owners are fantastic. Lovely, accommodating people made my stay even nicer. Highly recommended.
Perfect location in OB if you are a beach lover and dog owner! The house was perfect and had plenty of amenities. The house is cozy and has everything you need. There is a great kitchen if you love to cook. A full library of great books, music and movies - something for everyone! You are a short walk to the bike path that leads to the dog beach - which is awesome!! Best dog in beach in Cali. There is one parking space which is important in that area - but you don't have to drive to get to anything. You are near great coffee shops, restaurants and everything you need. Super nice owner, property manager and neighbors - We loved it and can't wait to go back!
Great location, great value! We loved the house. We love OB and we will be back. Plenty of things in the area, great food scene, and the dog friendliness was refreshing. House is comfortable, slept the 6 of us very comfortably. We had such a blast at the beach (literally a 2 minute walk!) that we didn't make use of the spa, regretting that now! Plenty of towels and cleaning supplies. My kids loved the movie and music library. Close to Sea World, easy day trip to Legoland. Thank you so much!
Our stay was delightful. Pat's hospitality is wonderful. The bungalow was a perfect place to stay with our three almost adult children and two dogs. Pat went above and beyond with her hospitality, making sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The internet was reliable so the teens were happy. My dog and I enjoyed daily walks along the river to play at the dog beach. There are several great restaurants within walking distance along the beach. We were in San Diego for a family reunion and the quick access to I-8 made it easy to get to all the events. The bungalow was perfect to host lunch and an afternoon at the beach for the family. I recommend this property to friends and family traveling with children and/or pets.
Spent a fun, relaxing week here last week! Everything in the house was clean and just what was needed for a comfortable beach experience. We booked this location because we travel with our dog. Out the back gate is a grassy baseball diamond, fenced so he could run there, or we could throw a ball around. Took the adjacent bike/walking trail to Dog Beach about a block away! So awesome! We could relax on the deck, which has plants for privacy. Hot tub looks new, and is serviced weekly. Dog dishes and shampoo. Really nice linens, towels, fluffy throw rugs. I loved the queen bed. TV had many channels. Kitchen was well-stocked with everything I needed for cooking. Very short walk to beach, pier, restaurants. Comes with an assigned parking space too! Owner and manager were VERY kind. Saw a neighbor only once in a week! Very quiet except for some airplane noise. This is the only reason why I couldn't give this comfortable home a 5 star rating.
We have spent the past 12 summers in either Mission Beach or Ocean Beach and this was the first time we were a bit disappointed. This house is clean and has the basic needs but if you are renting keep in mind it does not come with bikes, beach chairs, umbrellas or beach toys as almost all the others do. I over looked this and must say it made a difference for our stay. The house also does not have a dishwasher and although it has a washer and dryer they are coin operated which I did not know. The back patio is directly next to a large athletic park which we thought would be great, however it is very loud when you have a 100 kids out there playing soccer.
A huge disappointment for us was the TV, nice large HD TV that only gets 4 stations no cable, we watched a lot of news. For us this house was missing more than it offered.
Ocean Beach has excellent surfing and tide-pooling, there is a long fishing pier with no license required to fish from the pier. I've even seen people catch spiny lobster from the pier. Ocean Beach has beach related shops, boutiques, antique stores, decent restaurants, a great organic grocery, bars with live music and a brew pub. You can see Sea World and Mission Bay from the deck. We are looking for travelers for one month or more.
