I love older homes and this house has so much character, is nestled in St. Louis' premier historic neighborhood, sits on a quiet street, and is close to downtown.
Relaxing backyard deck....convenient location...quiet... comfortable...nicely furnished.
Such a stunning old victorian in one of St. Louis's oldest neighborhoods. The Lafayette neighborhood is so centrally located and charming. I loved that we could walk to many restaurants, stores and shops. The homes around the park have all been rehabbed back to their original splendor. The house if perfect for a group of friends or family and working with Susan was a pleasure.
I hope to be a frequent renter of this house.
Location was the greatest. Within walking distance of a lot of nice places. Short drive to everything else we were doing. Enjoyed our stay.
My family (six adults) stayed in this beautiful home for Thanksgiving. Everyone felt like they had enough space to stretch out and have privacy, yet we could all easily gather in the kitchen or movie room for family time. We prepared Thanksgiving dinner in the well-appointed, spacious kitchen (professional stove, subzero fridge!), we enjoyed coffee in the beautiful backyard sitting area, we did puzzles in the dining room, and we were minutes away from the sights and museums.
Susan was a communicative, friendly, generous host. She made us feel welcome and well-taken care of. The whole experience was so special. The historic home is in a safe, nice location, and the neighbors were friendly. I hope we have a chance to return soon!
This historic house in a great neighborhood of St. Louis puts you just minutes from attractions. Would definitely stay here again!
What an excellent experience! The Lafayette Park area of St. Louis is an amazing historic section of town, with beautifully restored late-1800's homes (Painted Ladies), good restaurants, the park itself, and good walking. We stayed in 1811 Hickory for three nights with our two sons, their wives, and our almost-three-year-old grandson and enjoyed it immensely. Susan the property manager was very personable and very helpful from the time we made the reservation throughout the stay.
The house was good for our size group. Each couple had their own bedroom, and the top floor theater room served as the grandson's bedroom, with Susan providing a Pack 'N Play crib for him. That worked out very well. The only caveat, and it wasn't a big issue, was that the main queen-bedded bedroom in the 'library' doesn't have direct access to a bathroom once everyone has closed their doors. There is a bathroom between the two full-bedded bedrooms. The couple staying in the main bedroom has to either go downstairs or upstairs to use a bathroom during the night. Again, not a big deal, but you ought to know that. All the beds were comfortable. The house's air conditioning system kept the house comfortable during our hot visit.
The downstairs is very comfortable. The front living room is a nice get-away spot for reading or quiet. I would imagine it is very cozy in the colder weather with its fireplace. Next to the living room is a good sized dining room, with seating around the table for 6. We had two candlelight dinners here. Both rooms are well appointed with antique, period furniture, a cool look for this old house.
The kitchen is wonderful, very modern, with top drawer appliances and lots of granite counter space. We cooked dinner one night, brought in Ricardo's Italian Cafe' another, and the kitchen served us well. There is a 4-seat table in the kitchen for breakfasts and hanging out. Out the back kitchen door is a deck with two chairs and footrests, well shaded by trees. Very comfortable.
A few comments on the area:
- Fields Foods on Lafayette Ave is a very nice grocery store. Avoid Save-A-Lot at all costs!
- Randall's Wine & Spirits on S. Jefferson at I-44 is a superb liquor store, a fun experience.
- City Museum is not a museum at all, it's a giant athletic amusement park. Take the kids by all means!
- Walk the neighborhood, walk the park, walk, walk, walk. The houses are amazing...
We stayed for 5 days with our daughters and their families. Two babies and one toddler. The house was perfect for us. Plenty of space for hanging out in the kitchen, living room and the 3rd floor TV room. The bedrooms were all spacious. Beautiful neighborhood. Easy walk to the park, coffee shop and restaurants. Even the major attractions were a quick drive away. The house looks just like the posted photos. Beautiful! Susan greeted us when we arrived, showed us all around the house and gave us good suggestions for groceries and resturants. We all want to come back!
The house is very centrally located--near downtown, near Forest Park, near the Missouri Botanical Gardens, near the Science Center, Art Museum and Zoo.
