We grew up in Clayton County Ga. and wanted to get out the fast pace of the city. We loved the mountains and consider it a blessing to move here. Hiawassee is known to be called The Jewel of the Mountains for its lake. I believe it to truly be a Jewel. Hiawassee is also less commercialized and a pleasure to kick back and enjoy the mountains and the lake !
Joe or Teresa Reece purchased this house in 1988
The Dogwood Lakehouse Retreat, sits down on the water, offers comfortable easy living, located on what the locals call sunnyside. Has alot of shade trees, plenty of elbow room on a gentle lot and with a short walk to the covered boat dock for fishing, swimming or boating. Enjoy the view from the property or with a close drive to town for your convenience to stores and activities.
The property is located beside a Bird Santuary . We have seen all kinds of birds. The gentle lot and the screen porch is so relaxing, listening to the birds and watch the sparkling water. The water stays at the dock year round and in the peak season is 10 to 12 feet deep at the end of the dock. Great place to play games in the yards and the water is so close with easy access for the elder. ATTRACTIONS: Brasstown Bald, (Ga,s highest Peak,) Ga. Mtn. Our party of four couples were in Hiawassee for a concert at the Anderson Music Hall. This house met our needs with 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. The owners are great to work with and I received a timely response to my questions. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is the access to the 4th bedroom. There is not a staircase inside to get to the downstairs where the 4th bedroom, bath and game tables are located. Other than that it was perfect. If you are planning a summer trip to Hiawassee this house is ideal.
This property in probably in the top 20% of vrbo places we stayed in over the years in terms of the quality of furnishings and maintenance. With that said, we brought three children and got charged $ off our deposit for water marks/ circles on marble coffee table, the type of furniture that probably should not be in a rental property. We really enjoyed the fire pit outside at night and the dock for fishing and boating - we rented a boat at a marina nearby. Overall a great experience and would recommend the property to others.
This was absolutely the best rental I've ever done. The lake was perfect. We found the best fishing spot. Enjoyed just sitting on the deck watching the geese. Great spot for kayaks. The water was a little too cold to swim but hopefully I can go back in the upcoming summer months
Beautiful lake home that features a view that will literally 'drop your jaw', amazing and breathtaking.
Everything we needed to cook and we made everything from breakfast casseroles to whole hams as we cooked for just about every meal for the entire week of our stay. So convenient being on the lake for fishing, swimming and tubing, and it is located in a low boat traffic area making it super safe for kids playing in the water. The only surprise was that the first floor is not directly connected to the main living area and you will need to use exterior stairs to access but it wasn't an issue just a head's up. A/C was great as it was an unusually hot July this year. Overall a beautiful place to spend quality time with family and friends. The screened porch has plenty of seating and is THE place to be when not on the water, thanks for sharing your lovely home!
This house was beautiful inside and out. We rented a pontoon boat and rode all the way up the lake. The area is gorgeous and is convenient to beautiful scenery and many activities. The home was very comfortable and beautifully decorated. Hope to visit again soon. Thank you so much for a fun, relaxing week.
We loved our weekend at Lake Chatuge! We had 4 adult couples in the home and loved the spacious adult bedroom. The living room was very open and comfortable. We enjoyed swimming by the dock because it was away from the busier areas of the lake. The campfire space near the water was perfect.
We will definitely visit again. The owners were incredibly helpful when we had questions.
