Located in the historic stone Gate House, Hickory offers all the charm of vintage Hudson River Valley estate living with the convenience of modern amenities!
This magnificent historic stone house sits overlooks a beautiful five acre private lake on a well manicured estate. The 100 acre property has approximately 35 acres of mowed lawns and fields with wooded trails to explore. Picturesque, peaceful, relaxing, refreshing, serene - all words to describe your time here.
The house is furnished as we would hope to find a vacation rental on our travels. Each room's furnishings are picked to compliment the house, and fit with the character of the property.
Hickory sleeps six, but may be combined with our 'Chestnut' Gate House anex to serve a group of 12. Great for family reunions, or friends to share; yet each house is fully independent and private!
The house floor plan is as follows: Ground floor: foyer, hallway, living room, eat-in country kitchen, half bath. Second floor: master bedroom with king, bedroom two with two twins, bedroom three with two twins, full bath with tub. Full-size washer and dryer in basement.
Willow Lake Farms has a history as rich as the Hudson River Valley itself, with connections to individuals who helped shape the history of both Dutchess County and the entire United States.
Willow Lake is an experience in itself. With over 30 mowed acres and some 70 acres of woods, there is a lot to explore! Hiking is easy, and the views are exceptional. The woods always offer unique specimens of plants, moss, lichen and other unusual vegetation. Birds are plentiful, with early mornings and evenings yielding views of wild turkeys or deer. Raising organic chickens and vegetable gardens are also a treasured pastime.
We just returned from a week stay at Willow Lake and can't say enough about how wonderful an experience we had! We had a large group of twelve people and rented both sections of the gatehouse. There was plenty of room for all of us and everyone (from the little kids to the teenagers to the grandparents) loved it! The kids went fishing and paddle boating on the lake. We even had campfires at the firepit by the lake! The owners were absolutely wonderful and super helpful. They even gave us fresh eggs for the whole week!
The location was perfect for us. We were there for a Vassar graduation and it was only 20 minutes away from campus. We were also close enough to lots of other sightseeing options and were even able to make a trip into the city for a day trip.
I highly recommend this property for anyone looking to get away and relax!
We just got back from a week at Willow Lake and we had an amazing time. We had a large group (12 people) ranging from little kids to teens to grandparents and everyone loved it. We stayed in the two adjoining rentals at the gatehouse and it was plenty of room for all of us. Peg was wonderful and even gave us fresh eggs during our entire stay! There was a ton to do from fishing to paddle boating to a campfire by the lake. The property is very private, but still close enough to grocery stores, the colleges (we were there for a Vassar graduation) and sights to be able to do lots of activities including going down into the city for the day. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a place to get away and relax!
We just got back from a wonderful 4 night stay at Willow Lake Farms. We were there for a girls reunion and couldn't have found a better place for it. We stayed in the two units located in the Log Cabin. Everything was perfect! The units are beautifully decorated and well stocked with linens, towels and kitchenware. Just outside our front door was a gorgeous lake and lots of property for walking. We all enjoyed walking the property and visiting the resident chickens (be nice and you may get some fresh eggs!). While there, the lovely owner Peg, let us tour the other 3 units. All the units were charming. The Hickory unit was beautiful too as it is in an old stone house.
The location of this very private property is perfect too. It is close to restaurants, grocery stores, lovely small towns and a few tourist attractions.
I would highly recommend this property and cannot wait to return. I see why many people go there for their weddings. It is just beautiful!
My wife and I got married in nearby Beacon. We rented all of the Willow Lake properties for the weekend and had an amazing time. The property was beautiful and very comfortable. The owner even gave us eggs from her chickens and some honey made on site! Would highly recommend anyone travelling to the area to stay there rather than one of the downtown hotels.
My family and I have been going to this property for three years running and we are never disappointed. It is gorgeous, sublime, peaceful and every view is breathtaking. The house is always clean and very user friendly. Peg and Richard are welcoming and up for a chat or a chicken run. We swim all day in what has become my favorite body of water, run around on the property and help out with the chickens. It has become such an enjoyable part of our summer. I highly recommend it to anyone who needs a break from the fast pace city life. We love Willow Lake!
Our group stayed for 2 nights at the stone houses (adjoining 2 houses) and we had a wonderful time that we plan to come back soon. The houses are homey and are part of private estate with private lake. The estate has tremendous areas with beautiful landscape to explore. Many activities to do on the spot: paddle boating, rowing, relaxing, swimming, doing yoga on your own. We recommend strongly this rental.
The Hudson Valley, from south of Willow Lake Farms to north is abundant in activities and places to see and visit. Storm King Art Center is one of our favorites, with West Point Military Academy also close by. The streets of Cold Springs offer antiques galore, with a beautiful Hudson River park to enjoy the sights and sounds of the river. Of course, plenty of culinary delights with the varied restaurants. Beacon, offers a very unique art view with lots of galleries complimenting the DIA: Beacon Museum just on the edge of the Beacon Train station. Don't miss Hudson Beach Glass, as well as numerous delicious restaurants. To the north of Willow Lake, is the wonderful Dutchess Rail Trail, culminating in the Walkway Over the Hudson, a state of NY Historic park. Of course the Walkway can be done independently. Hyde Park has the Culinary Institute of America, and Roosevelt museum and house, and also the Vanderbilt mansion and grounds. All with walking trails for your enjoyment along the Hudson. Wineries are abundant in the Hudson Valley, all within a short drive of Willow Lake Farms, including Millbrook Vinery and many others just on the west side of the Hudson. Of course, save lots of time to relax on the lake in our guest boats, or take a swim to the platform in the middle of the lake, or just relax in one of the benches around the lake. Plenty of time at night to enjoy a campfire at the guest area fire pit, and just visit with friends. The air is clean, the water beautiful, and the enjoyment plentiful.
