For those interested in history; our family is the second owners since Lord Baltimore and William Penn. The Cooper Family owned the farm for hundreds of years where it served as a plantation. While hiking the premises you will find the family cemetery, a slave cemetery, former slave quarters, and several barns and outbuildings on the property some of which date back to the 1700s.
Michael's Run Farm has been our family home since 1990. We have loved our years at the farm enjoying horseback riding, hiking, and appreciating the outdoors. The host of nearby attractions offer something for anyone who wants to explore the region.
The farm exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed the farm for a week. There were 13 (4 families) of us and each family had its own space. The beds were very comfortable with lovely linens and plenty of pillows. The kitchen had everything we needed and there was an extra refrigerator downstairs. The accommodations were well appointed. We were able to cook one turkey inside and one on the large grill out on the pretty deck. Playing ping pong, cooking, hiking on trails along the Susquehanna and running down the lane to see the horses and greet the cows made Michael's Farm an ideal spot for a family gathering. There is a pool but it was too late in the year to enjoy it. Coming back during the summer to play volleyball and swim in the large pool off of the deck seems very inticing! The owners were great, they made sure that we had all our questions answered and were readily available . We hope to return next year and repeat our perfect Holiday!
Michael's Run Farm is a fantastic experience and we recommend it without hesitation. The home is beautifully appointed and thoughtfully designed. There is plenty of space for everyone to join together for family activities and plenty of space to retreat if you need a nap, a break or just a quiet place to think.
While there are plenty of reasons to stay inside and enjoy the amazing home . . . don't! The property is a treasure trove just begging for exploration. The river, the lodge, the historic cemeteries, the orchards, the wildlife, the volleyball court, the pool, the croquet, the hiking trails, the bike paths, the trees and the fields are all there waiting for you.
Michael's Run Farm is a gem and so are the owners. They were so helpful in finalizing our reservation and offering suggestions on nearby activities.
We would love to return!
The kids called it Downton Abbey! Plenty of room for all to have space, outdoors and indoors. We had a group of 8 adults/ 8 children. ALL had a fabulous time with perfect weather. Did not want to leave. Rolling hills for running & walking. Large enough pool for the kids to enjoy. Well stocked house with linens and kitchenware. We plan to return again.
The word "estate" is the perfect description for this property--it's so much more than a vacation home. The attention to detail is extraordinary--every inch of the home is incredibly well-designed and beautifully appointed. It's an interior designer's dream, but in an inviting and comfortable way. Every room has big windows and a beautiful vista of the farm, mountains or river. We couldn't stop noticing (and appreciating) the countless thoughtful details that went into the design and execution. The surrounding property is also full of pleasant surprises, from the private cemeteries dating back to the 1700's, to the river overlook and multiple barns and outbuildings. The owner (Nancy) was incredibly thoughtful and the onsite manager couldn't have been nicer. We've done 18 consecutive years of Thanksgiving getaways and this year was far-and-away the best thanks to this lucky find. We hope to come back soon (and often.)
Our family spent a wonderful, relaxing, Columbus Day long weekend in this gorgeous home and beautiful surroundings. The house was more than we hoped for and accommodated the 16 of us perfectly. There was plenty of room for the 3 little kids to play and a big dining room for games and lots of eating. Also a huge family room for others to relax or read a book. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. We enjoyed kayaking, campfires, fishing, hiking, bike riding. and family football. We visited Amish country and went to Sight and Sound to see NOAH....both were about 50 minutes away. The deer made nightly visits in the fields surrounding the farm. We also had a local photographer come take family pictures. The barn, stables and rest of the farm gave us a perfect backdrop for our photo shoot. We made wonderful family memories and everyone wants to go back next year..... and stay a little longer! Our vacation here was a 10+!
The owners have created a gorgeous home with beautiful, comfortable furnishings. The master suite is beyond belief in its creature comforts! We enjoyed the nearby peach orchard for fresh fruit and the Amish farm for perfect fresh produce. The local grocery store was very well stocked for the most particular tastes. They were featuring lobster at $5.99 a pound when we were there. Lovely pool--very nice caretaker who came daily--Highly recommend.
