We are both avid skiers who lived out west for many years and missed the mountains when we moved to Toronto. We took a ski holiday to le Massif in the Charlevoix in 2007 and we fell in love with the area for more than the fabulous skiing. We decided then and there that we wanted to build a ski chalet in the area. In July of 2010, we took a sabbatical to build our dream log home on a gorgeous two acre property overlooking the town of Baie St. Paul. I am a school teacher who didn't even know how to hold a hammer before we started! We never cease to be amazed and delighted every time we return here. Much to our delight, every season is spectacular: the brilliant autumn colours, the magical winters, and the delightful summers with all the water activities offered.
Roma Kozlov purchased this chalet in 2010
We chose this property because it's a new development with a lot of privacy and stunning views, yet it's only 5 minutes from the hustle and bustle of downtown Baie St. Paul. We are part of the city and receive all the services provided.
We took raw land and created a paradise. It was exciting to create our own driveway, see the well being dug, install our own lamp posts, electricity, plumbing, etc. We know every inch of this house and property intimately!
Privacy, quiet, yet close to town!
What a spectacular location to visit in the Charlevoix! As soon as you enter the driveway of Horizon 77, you have a glimpse of a magnificent log home up the hill. Mark and Roma are to be congratulated on building this fabulous home in the picturesque area of the Charlevoix. From the wrap-around porch and from every window, the view of the St. Lawrence River and surrounding hills is breathtaking. All of the amenities of modern living are here in this spacious and comfortable accomodation. While staying at Horizon 77, in the Spring, we toured the beautiful Baie St. Paul area, with its many talented artisans and delightful food specialties. We particularly enjoyed the Maritime Museum at St. Joseph, the ferry ride and tour of Isle Aux Coudres and the Restaurant Mouton Noir. After returning to Horizon 77 over the rolling hills and seeing the close proximity of Le Massif Ski Resort, we realized what an excellent location it is for a winter holiday. Perhaps next time...
Five of us gathered for a "Girls Getaway" during the March school break. I'm not a downhill skier so I spent my time in downtown Baie-St-Paul, which is a haven of art galleries, restaurants and shops. The views of the St.Lawrence River from this beautiful property are second to none. My only regret is not taking the time to have a sauna as we were having too much fun. I hope we can make this an annual tradition.
Great house - bright, roomy, comfy, stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, all good !
My family came to visit us from Argentina and we had a wonderful stay at Horizon 77. This pine wood chalet is nothing but luxury, well decorated and with amazing bedding (so much so we had a hard time getting out of bed in the morning!). Everything we needed was at our finger tips and although all the rooms are very spacious (13 people can easily co-habitate at Horizon 77), it felt very cozy.
To top it all off, the view of the St. Laurence from almost every window was out of this world.
The quaint town of Baie St. Paul is just minutes away.
We really enjoyed our stay. I hope we will return one day.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Horizon 77. The morning sun shining in while having coffee at the dining room table was a great start to our ski day. The main floor living area is very comfortable and cozy with nice warmth from the fireplace. I especially enjoyed the clawfoot bath tub in the master BR. Nothing like a good hot soak to rejuvenate the ski legs for another day on the slopes.
Fabulous spot with gorgeous views! The chalet is perfectly equipped in every way (fluffy towels, comfortable beds, luxury bathrooms, and great kitchen, dining and living spaces).
The owners are gracious, and were responsive to all of our needs. Baie St. Paul is a lovely town and there is much to see and do in the area. Our favourite outing was to Laiterie Charlevois, Cheese Economuseum. The tour is well worth the money! We would absolutely return to this holiday retreat.
Surrounded by sea and mountains, Baie-Saint-Paul - the birthplace of Le Cirque du Soleil - has inspired a vast number of artists and artisans with the purity and natural beauty of its landscape. Countless are the art galleries, boutiques and activities for visitors to enjoy, including hiking, kayaking, snowmobiling and golf. Baie-Saint-Paul is a paradise of beauty, hospitality and scenic adventures!
Take a walk along its many narrow streets lined with charming boutiques and art galleries—it’s a great way to discover and fully enjoy one of Québec’s oldest municipalities. Nearby Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, a scenic six-kilometer drive down the mountain to the St. Lawrence River, is another favorite of visitors.
There are many day trips to choose from, including a free ferry ride to Isle-aux-Coudres, 'Island of Hazelnuts', discovered by Jacques Cartier in 1535. Home of the famous Pedneault Apple Cider Orchards, one can tour the small island by bicycle. For the adventursome, the area offers sea kayaking, river kayaking, canyoneering & whale watching excursions. If you love the mountains, the provincial parks, Grands-Jardins and Hautes Gorges offer various hikes at all levels and distances. Our favorite attraction, le Massif Ski Resort, boasts the highest peak in Canada east of the Rockies, and is hosted by Jean-Luc Brassard, the 1994 Olympic Gold Medalist in mogul aerials.
In the heart of this World Biosphere Reserve and natural larder filled to bursting, Charlevoix’s chefs and agricultural producers prepare a cuisine that is renowned far and wide. Some specialties are cheese, emu, and chocolate/raspberry/wild blueberry pie.
