Welcome to our dream home. This is not our vacation home, but it is our beloved home whenever we are in the USA. It was completely gutted in 2010 and lovingly renovated extensively. So you will be staying in a newly remodeled home.
Our house is 3800 sq. ft. with 6 bedrooms (sleeping 15), every room with beautiful views. The house has a split floor plan, with three bedrooms in one wing and 3 on the other. We can close off one wing so that you have the option of only renting the main living space with 3 bedrooms (sleeping 5).
* The master bedroom has a king bed. The master bath has a luxurious Asian style soaking tub.
* Next to the master are two bedrooms. One with two twin beds and a smaller bedroom with one twin bed.
* In the wing on the opposite side of the house are two bedrooms on the ground floor and one large bedroom upstairs. One bedroom contains a queen size bed and one bedroom has two twin beds.
*The biggest bedroom upstairs has 6 twin beds. It also has a breath-taking turret with 6 skylights which will make you feel like you’re in a castle.
The exact opposite of a dark log cabin, this house on the water is bright and light with 14(!) beautiful skylights, you’ll never have to turn on the light during the day.
Eat your meals out on the patio overlooking breathtaking water views. Walk down the steps and set up your fishing lines on the pier, or sit on the beautiful natural rock ledges by the water. The water view is expansive, the opposite shore being over a mile across. Across the waters is TVA land, so you will be looking at a pristine natural shore instead of houses. Not only is the water beautiful during the day, but you just may be treated to a moonrise on the water as well. Crystal clear moonbeam spanning a long trek across the water is a sight few people ever get to experience.
Situated on 7 acres, our property is also a bird watchers’ paradise. We guarantee you will delight in seeing our resident great herons and red-headed woodpeckers. And if you’re lucky, you may see a bald eagle right outside the window! We have seen ospreys, kingfishers, pelicans, hawks, foxes, groundhogs, etc. On our land is also 3 acres of woods, a fruit orchard, and a pine tree stand we named Narnia.
We are a family of 7 and we spend most of our years overseas in Taiwan. After all our travels around the world, we love beautiful North Alabama the best. This home is our primary residence (dream home) when we are in the US.
Judy Linton purchased this house in 2009
The home was neat, clean, and mostly appropriate for a group of 10 professional males visiting the area on a golf outing. We simply chose the wrong weekend for golf; the area received its ONLY snowfall of the year our last night there.
Since the home is remotely located, driving to restaurants and sports bars was cumbersome. Thus, after golfing and eating out, our evenings were spent, for the most part, in the rental house. There we discovered several problems for a group of male golfers. Female visitors may not agree.
1) the Dish Network TV system had no ESPN or sports package availability. I have recommended to the owner that she may wish to make that small investment to preclude future frustration from future groups of male renters( unfortunately our visit occurred the weekend of conference tournament basketball games, which we were unable to watch- we did not realize from the booking data provided that we needed an HDTL cable to hook into our laptops so that we could watch the games).
2) the 6 beds in the upstairs rooms, as well as several of the smaller downstairs beds were inadequate. The 6 upstairs beds were essentially cots, most of which had 2-3 inch thick "mattresses" on wooden platforms- most uncomfortable for adult sized males. We elected to have one person per downstairs bedroom, thus 3 of us were relegated to the upstairs bedroom, the room with 6 cots. Those three needed to take the mattresses from the three unused beds to double their own mattresses. Several of the smaller downstairs mattresses also needed replacing.
The grill noted in the pre-rental data was a charcoal grill. One needs to supply charcoal and lighter fluid to use.
However, overall the house was comfortable, accommodating, and clean and a relatively good value for the price paid.
We would not hesitate to stay here again!
A welcoming and responsive owner goes a long way to making a positive experience; Judy feels like a friend after fielding so many questions from us!
The best things:
a great balance of open family space and segmented, private spaces,
a terrific selection of unique books and games
and location, location, location!
We could have the whole family together for a game or split off into different spaces for reading, puzzles, etc. And when we put kids in bed, they were seperated from the main space so the adults could still socialize without waking anybody up.
The negatives: (I'll restate that we had a wonderful time and none of the negatives were enough to spoil our vacation)
Many of the beds were very basic and uncomfortable for adults.
As parents of young kids we felt there were some safety concerns - no railings on patio or lower dock, some worn out steps and rough wood railings.
And there were some trashy areas outside like a burn area with trash bags that have ripped open and left trash scattered around.
Again, we had a great time and really enjoyed Cliffhaven and it's owners!
We spent the week of Thanksgiving for a family reunion. The 6 sleeping areas were what we needed for the family coming together. The 2 living areas made it easy for card/board games and watching football simultaneously. The kitchen had almost everything we could ask for as well (couldn’t find hand mixer, but we had brought one just in case). We had the thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings. The view of the lake was fabulous. The grandkids loved watching the birds and barges go by. We kayaked, the grandkids fished off the dock. The convenience of the town of Florence for shopping and access to golfing were a plus. My family was so impressed with my find. Thank you for making this reunion a possibility.
"Cliffhaven" was absolutely delightful!!! The view of the lake was gorgeous! The grandkids fished off the dock and we grilled the fish for dinner! Everything you could need is there! We played wiffle ball on the large open area just inside the long, lovely driveway. We had a blast! We loved Cliffhaven!!!
Cliffhaven was very clean, spacious and had everything we could ask for in a rental home. Teenagers loved their large bedroom that slept 6 to hang out in and the parents loved the views and two living areas to relax in. Kitchen had everything we could ask as well. We rented this for our families to gather in one place and we had kids that wanted to swim and play in the lake as it was summertime. The stairs going into the water werent accessible as there was floating debris like dead fish, tree branches and bottles blocking the way and if they swam off the front of the dock there was no ladder to get back up so they had to be pulled back up by an adult. There were signs posted to swim at your own risk and we didnt feel it was safe for our children. If we were renting in the months where it is too cold to swim then we would rent again because it was a great great house and was very accommodating. Watching the wildlife and the barges go by was a highlight for us all! Thank you again for lending us your dream home.
Annually, eight guys go to Alabama to play golf on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. This year we went to The Shoals near Florence Al. We found "Cliffhaven" on the VRBO website. The accommodations fit our group perfectly. We needed eight separate beds and Cliffhaven provided more than enough. Having four bathrooms was a great plus. The location was not far from the golf course and also near good restaurants. The view of the river was fantastic. When we come back to The Shoals, we will definitely try to book Cliffhaven for the trip.
