About Marci Carisch

When David and I first married we had a dream of owning a cabin on Lake Vermilion. I grew up canoeing in the Boundary Waters National Park and Vermilion borders this park. In 1995 we bought island property on Vermilion and have raised our family enjoying the summers on Lake Vermilion.

The time we spend in this magical place have created memories that have bonded us together in a way that would not have happened in Minneapolis. The beauty of this place never ceases to take my breath away. My muscles relax the minute we see the water.

In 2012 we bought the cutest vintage 1950's cabin on the mainland and named it Caroline's Cottage. It has been lovingly restored with hand-craftmandhsip.

We want to share the Vermilion experience with you! We want you to feel like it is your own retreat and to offer you a place to create memories you will not forget, year after year.

David, Marci, Lauren, Ellen and Caroline

Marci Carisch purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Marci Carisch chose Minnesota

Lake Vermilion is one of the most beautiful lakes in the nation, bordering the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness. It has 365 islands, wildlife and miles of undeveloped shores to explore.

Amazing fishing lake too!

What makes this cabin unique

Location is fabulous, wide open view of the lake but also convenient.

Boat rentals and fishing guides in our bay at Spring Bay Resort 218-666-5607 and Moosebirds 218-666-2627. Moosebirds also has bait, gas, ice cream, sundries...

The public landing is one bay over next to The Landing restaurant and bar (Gas and boat dock at restaurant).

Lovely cottage on a beautiful lake!

  • 5 of 5

Loved the cottage! It was very clean and cozy and the owners have obviously put much love and care into the property. We brought a boat and the people at the resort where we launched it were very helpful and it was very convenient. The lift provided for our boat at the cottage was a welcome surprise. We loved the private beach and the provided kayaks, which we used quite a bit. The cottage had lots of games and movies which we really appreciated on a rainy night. Traveling to the Vermillion Club and ordering a Bamboozler pizza is a must! Love love loved the lake! Had a great time, we hope to be back next summer.

Darling Vintage Cabin

  • 4 of 5

This older cabin has bee refurbished and modernized making it the best of both worlds! The cabin was immaculate, well maintained and well appointed. There is a lovely lawn and even though the cabin faces eastward there is sun in the yard for most of the day. There is a large deck off of the cabin - perfect for morning coffee - and the deck over the boathouse offers more expansive views of the lake. We found it the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine.

The cabin is located close to the end of the road and feels very private. But you are only a short drive to Cook for groceries or whatever else you might need - and for those quick grocery runs there is Moosebirds Store which is about two minutes away. They also offer fabulous ice cream! You can rent a pontoon from them which I highly recommend - it's a marvelous way to explore the lake. They also offer bait, tackle, etc.

This would be a great choice for families with little ones as there is a small sand beach, a lovely and somewhat enclosed yard and a good sized second bedroom with three beds. But I think this cabin would work for just about anyone. The kitchen is very nice with a fabulous electric cooktop which I found a dream to use. Also, a large refrigerator and lots of cabinet storage as well.

The owners are great people and extremely responsive and helpful.

The only reason I am not giving four stars would be the septic/plumbing system which is a little bit tricky. There is hot and cold running water but pretty low water pressure and one must conserve water. But it beats those cabins with only an outhouse and a pump. (And there is an outhouse in case of emergency. My husband declared it the cleanest and nicest one he'd ever seen!) And, really, this turns out to be a small issue which one gets used to.

If you are older you might find the trek from the parking spot to the cabin itself a little steep, particularly if you're carrying bags - but this is almost unavoidable for many properties on Vermilion. There is a small wooden stair case to the deck. The yard itself has a nice gentle slope to the lake.

I think most vacationers would enjoy this property and all it has to offer. I would recommend it to my family and friends.

Wonderful Cottage

  • 5 of 5

It was exactly as we expected. It was private, close by boat, car or a nice walk to restaurants and stores. We loved the beach although you will want some water shoes because if you go in a bit deeper than a few feet, there are some rocks but no weeds! We didn't have one complaint! The cabin was clean and comfortable. I will agree with one previous review but only because we had a few rainy days, one more comfortable chair would be a great addition to the living area. However, outdoors you have all the seating you need - we brought extra outdoor chairs just in case and didn't need them. The private dock was really nice to have. The beds were comfortable and that is always a concern for us. The refrigerator was a very nice surprise as it was large enough to hold all of our food and beverages for the week. We used the grill so we didn't miss the oven at all. Stovetop was all we needed.

Thanks for making this available No doubt, we will be back!

Peaceful Cabin

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay and had a very relaxing week. We just had a couple suggestions that would have made our visit even better: 1. Kitchen: provide ice cream scoop, rubber spatula , new can opener and new barbecue tongs; 2. Bathroom: provide hair dryer, soap, shampoo and conditioner. Possibly new flat drain in shower? Not much water pressure so I didn't wash my hair. 3. Living Room: Maybe change out the Rattan chair for a comfy chair? Need more seating that's comfortable... My husband has a bad back and would lie down on the sofa and then I would end up sitting in the Rattan chair which, if you're watching a movie at night for 2 hours, is not very comfortable at all. Also, there were some burned out bulbs in the kitchen and living room and since we couldn't find any that fit the living room we went out and bought 2 bulbs.

It's a very cute cabin and was very clean. It wouldn't probably take much to just upgrade a few things (like maybe the TV, remove the stained area rugs) to make it even better. Just some feedback from us. It's a great location...so quiet. Docking the boat was easy. We sat outside everyday on the patio and had happy hour and watched the sunset. Also, we loved eating at The Landings and going down to Moosebirds for ice cream....great location! Thank you!

Caroline's Cottage is a gem

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay at Caroline's cottage. Boat lift was an extra "nice to have." Cabin was in great condition and owners were attentive throughout the entire process. Kitchen was well stocked and firepit, smore sticks and shed with dry wood were all great touches. Thanks for a great stay!

Great location! Very functional cabin with everything you need. Thanks!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our time at Caroline's Cottage. The weather was perfect. We caught some nice walleye and got to see at least some of the lake. We drove up to Crane Lake and hiked in to the gorge, then stopped at Vermillion Falls, which was WELL worth the drive! We used the kayaks and even took our little Min Pin along. All-in-all, this is a very quiet spot, not too far from town and many resorts and restaurants.
