Stayed at Breadboys in Blackpoint for 2 weeks. The house was spotless and has everything you need. I felt like it was home the minute I walked in the door. There are spectacular views of the ocean from the front porch where I spent a few hours in the hamic. There are spectacular views from the back porch which faces the exuma bank waters. Its not enough that we had fabulous water views from both the front and back of our place but they also have a beach which is one of nicest beaches in the area. We would bbq on the back porch and watch the boats at anchor with amazing sunsets. We had such easy access to paddle boards, kyacks and inner tubes out our back door. The exuma bank waters are some of the most beautiful coloured water you will see in the world. Even when the ocean is rough the Exuma bank is usually nice and calm for boating. Actually when the tide goes out you can walk out for almost a half a mile….which if you have small kids it is ideal. We are looking into returning next year with our family and grandkids. We rented a 21’whaler and a 17’ whaler and spent many days visiting the grotto (snorkelling), and visiting numerous white sandy gorgeous beaches….some we swam with pigs (large swimming pigs), some we swam with iguanas, we visited other local Cays where we swam with sharks and bought some local fish. While the boat rentals are a must if we had one complaint it would be the cost of the boat rentals. We made a mistake and hauled a bunch of groceries and payed extra for the haul and learned that it would have been much easier to just order everything through the Owners. The Owners will put you in touch with Costrite in Nassau (on-line store) and you can order anything you want and have it shipped to the door. The Owners pick it up on arrival and put it in your place when you arrive. Live and learn…..Rented a golf cart and had lots of fun driving into town (5 minutes) and seeing the locals and enjoying some awesome Bahamian food. Homemade fresh coconut bread every day from town made for a few extra pounds…The best Bahamian meal we had was made by the Owners for us the night before we departed. Thank you and WE WILL BE BACK……
We had an unforgettable 5 day adventure staying in the two bedroom two bath cottage on Black Point Cay run by Raymond and Ulrissa. They are a wonderful couple that work hard to keep their first happy. Ulrissa was always quick to answer my text.
Out the back door just steps down the stone path and you are on the water. Kayaks, a paddle board and other toys are waiting. At low tide you have a cove of sand. Out the front door and across the road is the Atlantic Ocean. The small cove holds a beautiful beach and we spent hours playing in the surf. On our last night, Raymond (Breadboy) had a bonfire made for the guest.
The cottage has internet but it was spotty at best. It seemed to work best in the early morning. We also had satellite tv and air conditioning.
Order supplies and food about two weeks ahead of time as it comes by a boat delivering island provisions. Be sure to purchase charcoal, lighter fluid and a lighter if you want to grill out. The town has two stores that have limited supplies and food.
We rented a golf cart and boat from Breadboy for the stay. My plan was to have a guide on the first day and then go off on my own. I ended up using the same guide, Roger, the entire stay. He was worth every penny as he grew up in Black Point and is knowledgeable on all the best spots and islands to see. He also put up with us going to pig island every day!
If you are looking for crowds, night life and gift shops, touristy areas, lots of restaurants....This place is not for you. If you want to stay in a pleasant cottage with some of the most beautiful beaches and bluest water you will ever see, then this is the real deal. Not to mention the excitement of iguana island, pig island, Thunderball Grotto, Compass Cay, great snorkeling, deserted beaches.....and so on, then this is the place for you!!!
Tips: rent a golf cart and boat. Order food ahead of time. Only two to three cafes of which we only ate at the pizza place the first evening, while waiting for groceries to come by boat. Get a guide, they know where to go. Bring plenty of cash in smaller bills. Order toilet paper, you only get one roll per bathroom. Bring sundries, seasoning, bug spray. HAVE FUN!!!
I knew I wanted to see the Grotto, swimming pigs, and swim with the nurse sharks. I got much more than that. A short 35 minute flight from Nassau on Flamingo Air you are at Black Point. If you planned ahead you ordered groceries and they will be waiting for you. Bread Boy and Ressa picked us up at the airport with golf carts and a truck for our luggage. It is a short 1.5 mile ride away. Now this is a small island. I saw maybe a dozen different vehicles on the island. Everyone walks, ride bikes or golf carts. That is a short commute to get on a plane. The planes are 9 or 15 seaters and depending on how many people are arriving, they may send 2 planes. On the property there are 4 rentals. The largest of the rentals has a lower floor that is an additional rental with a kitchenette. We stayed at the Green house or as it is called Ocean View. I spent many a mornings and evenings reading on the front porch and gazing at the ocean. The kids spent a lot of time in the lower gazebo and in the back bay. The bay empties out with the tide and is a great place to go on an excursion if you like to look for creatures or snorkel. We laid in the sun, kayaked, and went on the paddle boards. The boys fished in the bay also. They brought their own poles and reels. They got countless hours of entertainment of fishing. They fished at the government pier also. The locals at the pier are very helpful with what ever you want. When the fishermen come in the nurse sharks and the rays are very entertaining to watch. We meandered down to the pier each evening to fish and watch the life in the ocean. The Ocean was very accommodating for the 5 of us. We cooked in every evening except one. The kitchen is very adequate to make meals. WE ate one evening at DeShamon’s Restaurant one evening and the pizza was very good. Diane who runs the restaurant is more than helpful with everything. Her Mom has a little grocery store of a few things. Her Mom who lives next door makes bread and coconut bread. Well worth the 5 dollars for the loaf. DeShamon’s Restaurant also had the Packers football game on TV and has great wireless internet. Raymond and Reesa live on the property so they are there to help with whatever you need. Due to the fact that they live on an island it makes you realize what an effort they have to go through to get supplies etc.. for the property. This is what they do. Reesa manages the properties and Bread boy has boat rentals and excursions.
We returned recently from our 2nd trip to Black Point in less than a year! We had such a great time on our first trip last October that we came back in June & brought friends with us. Our kids who are 12 & 11 got to vote on where they wanted to go on their summer vacation. They didn't want to go someplace new, they both wanted to go back to Black Point because they fell in love with the island on their first trip. This time we stayed in the 4 bedroom purple house which was big enough for our group's 2 families of 4. The view from the comfortable deck can't be beat! Ulrissa & Bread Boy are wonderful people who are great to work with & will make sure all your needs are met while you are on the island. We love Scooter who we hired to take us out on the boat on multiple days. He is wonderful with the kids & just fun to be around. Places you must do while on your trip are: Visit Iguna Island, snorkel at the Thunderball Grotto & the Exuma Land & Sea Park, Visit the Swimming Pigs, Visit Compass Cay & swim with the nurse sharks. Their is also a gorgeous sand bar that Scooter would take us to where we would eat our lunch. Our kids loved playing there & it is just gorgeous. Make sure you get some coconut bread from Lorraine's Mom & some conch fritters from Ms. Ida at the laundromat! They are both so delicious! Ulrissa was nice enough to cook for us one night & we throughly enjoyed not having to cook after a long day out on the water. The grouper stew, mac & cheese, & pigeon peas with rice were delicious! We also enjoy eating at Deschamon's. Our kids really like their pizza & their grouper fingers and grouper sandwiches are delicious as well! Make sure to give Ulrissa your grocery order before your arrive & she will have your refrigerator stocked for you when you get there. Get more than you think you will need as there isn't a grocery store in town to stock up. There is Adderly's General Store where you can find some items, but not much. Our family has fallen in love with Black Point & we plan to take a vacation here every year. If you are looking for a place where you can relax & enjoy the beauty around you then you have found the right place! Thanks again Ulrissa & Bread Boy for another great week in the Exumas!
This was the best family vacation with our daughters, 5 and 7, that we have ever had! We just returned to Atlanta from Black Point. Bread Boy and Ulrissa helped us above and beyond. We rented the two bedroom, two bathroom "Green" house. I thought it was very spacious with tile floors throughout and extra tall ceilings. It was extremely clean and well taken care of. Each room had a AC unit and ceiling fan and we were never hot! The kitchen was new, clean, very well appointed and comfortable. The house has a million dollar view and everything you needed for your vacation including kayaks, paddleboards and other water toys right in the backyard. We spent an afternoon on that sandbar just watching the Sea Turtles, Sting Rays and Nurse Sharks passby.
We also rented a golf cart and a 17' Boston Whaler from Bread Boy. A golf cart and a boat rental are a must if you travel over. You can explore the island which is very picturesque including Plain Bay, and the Blow Hole but you absolutely must get out to the islands if you want to scratch the surface of this magical place.
Kobe, Ulrissas son was our captain for the week. We paid him a fee to take us out and show us the different sites. A captain is a must. He even took us fishing one day. Order your conch salad through Ulrissa or pick some up when you stop in Staniel Cay on your day trips. Beware it is expensive (around $15 per cup!!) but it is so delish, it is a must! Lorraine's makes the freshest best bread on this planet. It was so good, Ulrissa delivered us two loaves to take home with us for our family. Ulrissa also cooked dinner for our family one Sunday evening complete with Mac n Cheese, Crab Rice, and Fresh Grouper. What a treat and a simple blessing for this Mama to not have to cook after spending a full day out on the water! We also ate dinner at Deshamon's Restaurant twice and both times had a wonderful meal and nice conversation with the owners and Rambo. Just go by in the morning on your way to the Dock and preorder your supper so they can go out and fish it fresh for you!
Definitely make sure you preorder your groceries with Ulrissa,(totally my fault, i just didnt get the importance) and do it on time. I did not and because of that our groceries came in on a later boat. Dont underestimate what you will eat, (as I did). It can leave you scrambling or getting off budget by eating out often.
These people are hardworkers and genuine. Thanks for a great time Bread Boy and Ulrissa
One of the best vacations we have ever had! We just returned back to S. Florida from our Exumas trip to Black Point. Bread Boy and Ulrissa were our hosts and they went out of their way to make this our home away from home. We found the house to be new, clean, very well appointed and comfortable. Having Direct TV was a real treat being able to keep up with the scores and news of the day. The house had great views and everything you needed for your vacation including kayaks, paddleboards and other water toys right in the backyard. The beach or sandbar was beautiful with the most crystal clear waters you have ever seen.
We also rented a golf cart and a 17' Boston Whaler from Bread Boy. A golf cart and a boat rental are a must if you travel over. You can explore the island which is very picturesque but if your in the Exumas, you came for the water!
We also got to know a few of the locals, all of which were absolutely the nicest people we have come across in the Bahamas. Bread Boy and Ulrissa knows everyone and can "hook you up" as Bread Boy put it! There are a couple of folks you must meet while there though. They are the folks that made our trip even more memorable. Scooter was our Captain for the week. We paid him a fee to take us out and show us the different sites. He was great with the kids. We caught lobster (seasonal) and fish including a 50 lb Black Grouper. Everyone on the island ate well that night! Everyday we got enough conch to make a conch salad which Scooter would whip up at the dock. It could be the best thing we ate all week. Ida makes terrific conch fritters and delivered them right to the cottage on the night of the football game. She owns the laundermat in town. Wonderful woman. Lorraine's Mom makes the best bread on this planet. You can choose from coconut, cinnamon raisin or plain. It was so good we took two loaves home with us for our family. Not only was the bread terrific but she is just the sweetest woman around. We also ate dinner at Deshamon's Restaurant twice and both times had a wonderful meal and even better conversation with the owner.
Overall, we will be back soon. My daughter asked us if this would become our annual trip the other day and I put it back on her. I said I don't know, would you want it to be? She gave a resounding yes! Thanks for a great time Bread Boy and Ulrissa
