About Margaret

We built this log home in 2005, , we love the peace and quiet of the mountains, We welcome your family and pet dog,

Margaret is from Liverpool England, and you will notice the references to the beetle's music, including of course the name of the street which the house is on.

John is an avid golfer and can tell you about every golf course in Tennessee and North Carolina.

Margaret purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Margaret chose Asheville Area

Golf is available in nearby Tennessee, Name is Buffalo Valley golf course

and also in Weaverville, Rheems Creek golf course which is half an hour NC there are many other golf courses in the area.

besides the beautiful view, we have paved roads and a paved driveway, which makes you feel safer when driving.

What makes this cabin unique

having the owners close by, gives you more amenities for instance, stuck in the snow, we have the vehicle to pull you out, need a cup of sugar just ask, need baby sitters or dogs fed, just ask, or anything else you might have forgotten.

We also have a larger Home that sleeps twelve in the same area

VRBO #768697

Guestbook comments from the owner

first, I would like to apologize if my guest felt that way about our cabin, we do explain in our listing that we (my husband and I) live on the lower level of the house, I am at present unable to go upstairs as I have broken my foot and cannot walk, but I will speak to my cleaning staff about the condition of the house, I have never had a complaint in all the years I have been in business,

My Husband always goes around the driveway and greets each new guest when they arrive, he knocks on the door if they have already gone inside and they don't hear him he will go in to see if they need any help with their luggage, or need firewood, or any information, which most people do.

Wonderful 4 day weekend

  • 4 of 5

The house is beautiful and perfect for where it is nestled. Great views, great owners, very comfortable! Felt safe and at home. Downsides were that we weren't alone in silence, especially during the day. Owners live downstairs and right when you want to take a snooze on the couch, you hear the dogs downstairs barking. A stairway in the living room leads downstairs to their living area so sounds abound when they are busy living their lives (who can blame them?)! But they are wonderful people and very hospitable and accommodating. We think it's just important to mention in case future vacationers are looking for absolute solitude. With that, the hot tub is on the ground level patio, outside of their level. Yet they have window treatments which they closed so we had privacy. Amazing night sky and mountain views abound. Awesome rocking chairs on the porch overlooking layers upon layers of mountains. Suggestion for owners in cold months would be to consider shielding the wind somehow from the front side of the house facing the driveway (opposite the mountain view) because when you're sitting by the outdoor fireplace it's hard to stay warm with the wind whipping. Although I may just be someone who prefers the Caribbean ;). Also note that we smelled cigarette smoke a few times which I abhor and didn't want my 2 year old to inhale. We saw ashtrays outside but moved them from our sight. We also had a tough time with the front right burner on the stove. Super comfy couches and beds. Clean and well decorated. We will never forget the butler dog toilet paper holder who had a clothes pin on his nose. Our 2 year old said, "why he have a pin on his nose? To which I replied, "You tell me." "He no want to smell the poop." Just. Like. That. LOL!

Very Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The house is tucked away high-up in the mountains, but the views are worth it. I stayed here for my bachelor party. John was extremely helpful and very nice. They had the fireplace ready to go and all the amenities we needed. It is about 45 minutes from downtown Asheville and 20 minutes away from an Ingles in Mars Hill so we went ahead and grocery shopped in Mars Hill. If you are looking for time away from the city and peace an quiet this house is perfect.

I will certainly consider this house for future trips.

Cabin was stunning and perfect for a girl's weekend away!

  • 5 of 5

We reserved the cabin for several girls to meet and get away to the mountains for the weekend. We could not have been more pleased!! Memories of a lifetime were made on that mountain. Cabin was extremely clean, tastefully decorated with modern touches and plenty of space for us to spread out. John and Margaret were tops!! They had the fireplaces and hot tub ready to go when we checked in. Everything was absolutely perfect! Tips for the trip: 1) The road going up the mountain to the cabin is gorgeous with a bit of an incline. Take it slow and the enjoy the drive. The views that await you on your sweeping deck are worth the drive up! 2) There is only a gas station at the exit. Make sure you arrive with plenty of groceries or you will be heading into Mars Hill about 8 exits down the interstate (15 mins or so). 3) Downtown Asheville was closer than we thought (25 mins away) and very easy to navigate. Plenty of shopping, good eats/local breweries and sights to keep you busy. Will return for another adventure, for sure!!! Thank you for the memories.

Owner's Response: Lisa, John and I are so glad you and the girls enjoyed your stay here and sincerely hope you return, you were a pleasure to have. Just one thing though, it is only two exits to the supermarket, the confusing thing is you go from exit 3 to exit 11 I don't know why the exit run that way. looking forward to your next visit. Margaret

Absolutely gorgeous with gorgeous views and very private with only a 5 min drive to the slopes!

  • 5 of 5

We went up for my wife's birthday with a few friends and the pup and let me tell you it was amazing! Hot tub was great and the huge side porch was perfect for relaxing. It snowed the second day we were there and that just upped the trip by 100! John and Margaret were great and it was like they weren't even there! Highly recommended!!

Very nice stay at lovely mountain cabin.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed 9 days at Penny Lane over the Christmas Holidays (2016). The cabin was as beautiful as it appeared in the online photos. It was very well stocked with kitchen items, games, lovely fireplace etc. There were four of us (mother and father, daughter and grand daughter) so we each had our own bed room and bath room. The cabin had plenty of room with a lot of open space and lovely views. We all very much enjoyed our stay.
