About Jennifer Sproul Whitesell

Welcome to the Sproul Family Ranch, located in the heart of the beautiful Davis Mountains! The original Sproul Ranch was founded in 1886 by Robert Stuart Sproul. Over 125 year later, the ranch is still a working cattle ranch, owned and operated by the fourth, fifth and sixth generations of Sproul descendants.

Jennifer Sproul Whitesell purchased this cabin in 1998

Why Jennifer Sproul Whitesell chose Fort Davis

We love Limpia Canyon and want to share a piece of our paradise with you! We built the cabin in 1998 so that people could come experience the serenity and majesty of the Davis Mountains.

What makes this cabin unique

The quiet, peaceful solitude of La Cabaña Escondida will make you love this place as much as we do!

Starry Starry Night

  • 5 of 5

Nice out-of-the-way place, next to the mountains. No neighbors for a mile. I set up my telescope in the drive way and saw hundreds of galaxies, nebula and clusters - it was the best I've ever seen. Next night was also good, but the third night was a wash out (clouds, dust haze).

During the day, we saw a deer, two javelina, Monarch butterflies and various birds. Ft Davis was a 10 minute drive away with a few restaurants and grocery stores. The internet was great but no cell service (at&t, t-mobile) at the house.

Sitting on the screened in porch was nice. Perfect as the sun set. Nice house in a nice location... Thanks!

AMAZING!!! WE'LL BE BACK

  • 5 of 5

This is a truly wonderful cabin situated at the foot of Scobee Mountain. Words cannot describe the surrounding hills, streams, trees and pastures on the Sproul Ranch. We cannot wait to rent this cabin again. By the way, if you are thinking of visiting the Ft. Davis State Park (the park, not the fort), you may want to rethink it. This cabin and property are essentially right across the highway. In fact, you can see the cabin from the highest observation point at the park. We realized there was no reason to visit the park, since the cabin and surrounding ranch is basically a miniature version of the park. Great hiking and exploring around the cabin's property. Peaceful nights and secluded vistas. We were just amazed by the beauty of the place. The cabin itself is wonderful and cozy. The only minus is this: if you have Sprint, don't bother trying to use it in Ft. Davis. The cabin has wi-fi, so that was good. Tip: DO print out the map sent to you via VRBO. Otherwise, the road into the ranch can easily be missed and many of the locals are fresh transplants who (amazingly) have little or no knowledge of the local area. We finally found someone in the local grocery store that knew where the cabin was situated (3 other employees had NO idea where Scobee Mountain Road was). The local restaurants are very nice also. 5/5 stars, easily.

Great Weekend Escape

  • 5 of 5

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our weekend away at this quaint little cabin. It was the perfect size for the four of us (2 adults, 2 kids) and equipped with everything we needed. The kids loved exploring and climbing around the property and we took in fantastic views of the Davis Mountains from the ridge behind the cabin. It's also a great location for exploring other sites in the area as well. We visited Davis Mountains State Park, the McDonald Observatory and spent a little time in Fort Davis. We were also treated to an amazing lightening show while we ate dinner on the front porch. We're already planning our next visit!

Perfect getaway and great location

  • 5 of 5

We loved the cabin. So secluded. Just what we were looking for. Great front and back porches and plenty of space inside. Loved the location. So close to the Davis Mountains state Park and so many towns to visit. Saw so much wildlife hiking the property. Turkeys, deer, javelinas bunnies and birds. The mountain views are stunning.

Scenic setting with comforts of home

  • 5 of 5

We had a spectacular stay. We were there for my husband's birthday and was looking for a place in the mountains. The cabin was cozy and comfortable. We found Fort Davis to be a delightful town with lots of colorful locals. While staying there we encountered several native animals and it was great fun to be able to observe them in their own settings. We toured Marfa one day and the Fort the other day.

Only downside and it was not related to the cabin at all, was lunch/dinner options. We found the local area to be on their own time. Lunch is very limited to one or two places and dinner is great if there isn't a local event. Otherwise the small restaurants are not able to handle the volume. Recommend you bring groceries to the cabin and make lunch. You might be frustrated otherwise. Great stay would recommend this to couples and individuals wanting to connect with nature or to get away from the hustle of city life.

So peaceful and perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Our family recently stayed at Jennifer's place for several days and absolutely loved it. The cabin was perfect for us and our boys loved taking hikes and looking for 'crystals'. So many sweet family memories were made during our vacation here. We plan to return.
