This quintessential village green, locally known as The Forstal, with its cricket pitch, secluded pond, surrounded by beautiful houses, where the renowned author H.E. Bates wrote 'The Darling Buds of May' and many other novels. In the words of Pop Larkin it is 'perfick'.
Our Granary has recently been refurbished while retaining its rustic appeal with exposed timbers, oak and pine doors, ragstone walls and cosy furnishings. The downstairs room is open plan with a well equipped kitchen and living/dining area. There is a double sofa bed in the living room. Glazed doors lead out to a flagstone terrace overlooking a BBQ and sitting area.
The upper floor is accessed via a spiral staircase leading to a spacious main bedroom with a king size bed, fitted cupboards and a dressing table. There are wonderful views over the typical English garden. Adjacent is a separate shower room with facilities.
If tranquility is what you seek then this is your location.
Thank you very much for two wonderful weeks. Your hospitality is something special, the garden is very beautiful and the house was perfect (even for 4).
We hope we will be able to come back with better English.
My husband and I spent a very comfortable and tranquil week at the Granary. From contacting Netta regarding availability to confirmation, sending information-comunication was excellent-and the welcome when we arrived was warm.
The property was as described and very clean with an unexpected welcome pack of tea, coffee, bread, milk, juice etc-in fact everything that was needed even to cleaning materials. We had a great weeks sleep in a lovely large bed, the view from the bedroom into the large garden was great, we saw sunrise and sunset. The bathroom large and all the features retained of a renovated granary-sympatheticaly done but modern and comfortable.
We were able to visit English Heritage and National Trust properties in the area of which there are loads. A visit to France via Channel Tunnel 30 minutes away-the route being very easy.
We were able to wander around the area and for serious walkers there were 40 mile walks.
Nothing was too much trouble for the owners and we found them very hospitable.
We would and indeed have recomended The Granary to friends and we enjoyed it so much we hope to rebook for next year when work holidays are confirmed.
Thank you Netta and Bob for a lovely week.
My husband and I stayed in this little cottage during the summer half-term. It did not disappoint! Set in a quiet location within easy reach of the attractions in Kent and with footpaths close by, we had a very relaxing week. Our hosts were friendly and welcoming; the cottage was very clean, comfortable, and well equipped with lovely views over the garden; and the fresh flowers and provisions were a lovely personal touch. We could have made more use of the extensive grounds and patio if the weather had been more seasonal, but such is the unpredictability of an English summer! We would definitely stay again.
We had a lovely time at the cottage. Bob and Netta were fantastic, really looked after us well. Would definitely stay there again.
Our family of two adults and two seven-year-olds loved the cottage! Bob and Netta were kind, generous, thoughtful hosts who went out of their way to provide privacy and enjoyment for us. The boys enjoyed the pool throughout our stay, and we all appreciated the gardens and idyllic setting. We enjoyed pub meals in Pluckley and many beautiful walks on the North Downs Way. The cottage was well supplied and designed, and our hosts were very helpful with information and advice. We highly recommend this beautiful cottage for anything from a romantic getaway to a family vacation. Exquisite!
What a terrific time we had staying in The Granary at Forstal Farmhouse. The accommodation was so nice. It was quiet and seemed so far from everywhere, but road and rail transportation was close at hand. We toured all around south eastern Kent and were never more than about an hour from home. Netta and Bob were fabulous hosts and made us feel welcome from start to finish. It really is a stunning location and I'm sure we'll be back for another visit on our next trip to England.
The Granary provides historical charm from the outside but is modern, clean and well equipped, inside. This property has everything you need for a lovely holiday, Netta and Bob have thought of everything.
It is perfectly located to visit interesting places and beautiful countryside providing opportunities for active people or those looking for a relaxing holiday we would certainly reccomend a stay.
The Granary is set within the confines of a Wealden farmstead, which provides a wonderful backdrop for those who enjoy peace and quiet, fresh air and exercise. Just a few minutes drive away is the bustling market town of Ashford with all local amenities. The cathedral city of Canterbury with its wonderful selection of designer and high street shops is only a little further away. Other local attractions include Leeds Castle, the historic city of Rochester as well as many seaside resorts and animal parks. Further afield the Javelin train can whisk you to London in just 38 minutes. Or why not take a day trip to Paris or Bruges on the Eurostar? You are spoiled for dining out in this area with its plethora of good restaurants, bistros and gastro pubs.
