Southern Wisconsin House Rental Photos and Description

Waterfront 1 1/2 story executive home, 2 bedroom, 2 full baths (sleeps 4-6)

Welcome to our home - a slice of history -- Frederick Leuning immigrated to the area in 1843 and built a cabin near Cedar Creek and called the cabin ‘Cedarburg’ which meant “ the castle of the cedars.”

Our all-inclusive original homestead of 1885 has been completely redesigned, restored, and updated with modern conveniences and brand new construction throughout the interior, from new windows to solid hardwood flooring, along with the exterior and yard, bringing nostalgia and history into the 21st century. We custom designed our home with upscale entertaining in mind, the professionally landscaped patio brings the living space outdoors. On the hardscaped living room in the backyard, we relax with new furniture including a patio table with four swivel rocker chairs, two lounge chairs with side table, and a new Kenmore gas grill. Seating along the “castle” wall is unlimited! Eight stone steps lead to the 4’ x 10’ dock, where the 13’ pontoon paddle-boat awaits. (all life-preservers and fishing gear ready to go.) Cottage-style gardens wrap the patio and welcomes our family, friends & guests in the front entry with a timeless rock garden.

To add to the relaxing experience of anyone using our home, we have included many extra amenities for comfort & convenience, including:

• for stays of a week or more, a gift certificate to the many shops and restaurants in Cedarburg to help people investigate and experience first-hand our unique community.

•a variety of wines from our Platinum Award Winning local winery, Cedar Creek Winery, only one block west on the corner.

•coffee, condiments, and a variety of teas, and assortment of single-use organic spices await; even corresponding recipes.

•spa quality soaps & shampoos in each bathroom along with extra toiletries in each bathroom closet, in case something is forgotten (shavers to toothpaste), plus a first aid kit

•books, cookbooks, magazines, games, and DVDs are located throughout our home.

•yoga mat and elastic bands

•“Planning & Concierge Desk’ — forget email or texting...send an ‘ol-fashioned postcard to family & friends! Ready to mail with stamp affixed, postcards and stationery await at the ‘concierge desk’ in the hallway. Along with area phone books, the Community Reference Guide is located inside the desk, containing many useful maps, brochures, and guides further detailing area attractions and things-to-do.

•Pre-grocery shopping service. Wouldn’t it be nice to arrive 'home' and have the refrigerator, freezer, and pantry all stocked with favorites? Just let us know and we'll shop for you ahead of time!

•Plush Turkish-cotton waffle robes.

•Apple TV, AT&T U-Verse, Blue-Ray, WiFi.

•Bose stereo system with iPod recharging station and interior/exterior Rocketfish speakers.

•iLuv iPod recharging alarm/radio

•Accessorized with plush linens throughout

Now let’s take you inside our home….1400 square feet of remodeled living space welcomes our family, friends and guests. The mudroom off the back patio includes custom tiling, washer/drier, closet (iron, ironing board) and built-in custom storage cabinet with coat hooks. Step up into the expansive kitchen, dining, and bar which explodes inside these cozy walls, a 15 x 20 foot space overlooking the patio and creek. New appliances and chimney hood with stainless steel add upscale ambiance, while the antique white furniture island brings back the era, with seating for four on comfortable saddle stools. A walk-in pantry, custom kona cabinetry, granite designed counter top, and custom tile backsplash give the upscale kitchen character and charm. Service for 12 ceramic dishes, small appliances, cutlery, stainless steel utensils, pots and pans, and many kitchen ‘extras’ are stocked including linens for ease-free entertaining. In the mornings, a stocked supply of European gourmet coffee filter-packs and condiments will help wake up our guests along with a variety of teas. The built-in bar has a separate bar sink, glass cabinets (stocked with stemware, glassware, barware) and a 52-bottle wine cooler. Dine at an antique claw-foot pedestal table, seating for four, enameled in a retro accent, with the glowing ambiance of stained glass craftsman-style pendants and chandelier, hanging from the vaulted ceiling with can-lights on dimmers to bring the evening in.

The living room continues the solid hardwood floor off the kitchen with a framing of kona. The handsome new natural gas fireplace looks as original as can be with the reclaimed cream-city-brick of the original chimney’s, enhancing the design. An authentic hand-hued barn beam is re-purposed as the mantle, with the modern 40” LED HD television inset above for meeting modern technological needs, including Apple TV, AT&T U-Verse and Blue Ray DVD. 1880’s meets 2012 when a restored antique sled is re-purposed as a coffee table. The bookcase offers a variety of books, games, and DVD to curl up with in the all leather sofa and side chairs with ottoman, punctuated with Pottery Barn accent tables.

The oversized hallway leads directly to the back patio, passing a new full-size bath, complete with custom tile, linen closet, 5’ Kohler walk-in shower with glass doors, Kohler water closet, and an original-to-Cedarburg antique craftsman style buffet, re purposed as the vanity, with a designer glass leaf vessel sink and bamboo-style faucet, enhanced with water glass pendant lights.

At the end of the hallway, kona pocket doors create private space in the den/guest room, where a klik-klak leather sofa doubles as a full-size bed. An antique trunk, one that our grandfather used when coming to America from the ‘old-country’, doubles as a coffee table. The view of the back patio, fireplace, and creek from this retreat is spectacular thru the private entrance patio door!

Ascending up the redesigned wood staircase, a front bedroom/sitting room greets us with a brand-new sofa bed, queen inner-spring mattress by Serta, and comfy chair-and-a-half glider rocker with ottoman. A spacious wardrobe and family heirloom high-boy dresser (plus a wooden luggage rack) are perfect to meet our storage needs. The soft-glow of linen-shade wall sconces bounce peaceful shadows from the vaulted ceilings.

An added oversized Master Bath upstairs takes our breath away as we can view Cedar Creek through double windows as we relax in the new cast iron, white enameled clawfoot bathtub, with authentically-styled faucet set. Another Kohler walk-in shower with glass doors, Kohler water closet, and original pedestal sink with authentically-styled faucets, bring the 1800’s into this modern, vaulted executive bath. Appointed with upscale extras, we can only but relax with custom tile and paint, plush linens, memory-foam plush bath mats, Turkish-cotton waffle robes, retro scale, full-length mirror, hair dryer, magnified hand mirror, and spa-quality soaps and shampoos. Plenty of storage space with a closet nook and custom built-in shelving.

The Master Bedroom is the icing-on-the-cake…right off the Master Bath, let the ambiance embrace! The cool and warmth of the green custom paint scheme, vaulted ceiling, and period-specific wall sconces envelope our guests as the outdoors come inside through the patio doors, leading to a private sitting deck, overlooking the patio, fireplace, and creek. Two Adirondack-style sling chairs are waiting. Truly, a million-dollar view! As evening extends, enjoy the sunset, just in time to turn on the undermount lights….or let the soft radiance of the low-voltage lighting in the ‘castle pillars’ below glow. Back inside, a new queen-size Serta bed with memory foam is ready with upscale linens, surrounded by our family heirloom antique furniture pieces, butler caddy, and wardrobe, perfect to move into. Watch favorite night-time program on the 22” LED HD television or relax listening to favorites on the iLuv alarm clock.

The details throughout are exquisite, from the authentic duck decoys to the antique depression glass water pitcher. The artwork in each room are personal photos we have taken and redefined onto linen canvas, each for sale if anyone using our home would like to take a piece of the ‘castle’ home with them.

About The Owner

We are both native of Ozaukee County, residing in Cedarburg for over 25 years. Growing up in Mequon, we always loved the charm and sense of community Cedarburg provided. We venture 'up north' to enjoy water frontage, but now we have the best of both worlds right here in our Hometown by beinig able to enjoy our home on the Creek! Being in the hospitality industry for almost 20 years, this is now our opportunity to invite our own family, friends and guests use our quality, upscale home, showcasing our fine community.

The Owner purchased this house in 2011

Why The Owner chose Southern Wisconsin

This historic cottage was begging for help and the location was perfect. We purchased our home in Fall of 2011 intending to completely rehab and bring some life back into these historic walls, creating an executive 'haven' for ourselves, family, friends and guests to enjoy and discover for themselves the charm of Cedarburg. Our goal is to help promote Cedarburg as a destination city in our own personal way, working with the community, shop keepers, and restaurant owners by networking together and cross promote referrals. We live here and shop here as residents of Cedarburg!

See our 'before' and 'after' photos of this project. But moreso we want you to spend time rediscovering the beauty of America in this special 'hometown.' We are excited to share this experience with you!

What makes this house unique

The 'million dollar view' off the Master Bedroom Suite, overlooking Cedar Creek is breathtaking.....leaving worries behind and thoughts care-free. Bringing the old and the new together makes this a classic retreat, with the blend of metropolitan and country creates an upscale destination.

Please read the full description of The Castle (our home) since all its features are unique.

Many amenities are included as 'extras' throughout the home, from a variety of Cedar Creek wines, spa quality soaps, shampoos, lotions, to European coffee shop coffee and tea.....even plush robes to curl-up in (take home as a momento too!) Personally photographed wall art on canvas is also available to bring a piece of 'The Castle' home.

Come, experience someplace very unique...we have seen deer cross the road through our's and the neighbors backyards, watched the family of ducks on the creek, even heard woot owls in the middle of the night.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Loved the "Castle of the Cedars"! Another summer getaway was such a fun escape from reality! We have been getting together for 22 years and your house was filled with love and laughter. We so enjoyed the paddle boat, the patio, and your lovely town! Thank you for sharing your Castle, your generosity, and hospitality! We enjoyed the Cedarburg Chamber gift checks at The Anvil for lunch - great recommendation! We will be back, maybe around Christmas time.

Perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

The Castle of the Cedars is perfect for a short visit or an extended stay in Cedarburg. Given the shopping, restaurants, cultural activities, and numerous opportunities to enjoy the outdoors in and around Cedarburg, Grafton, and Port Washington, an extended stay filled the bill for us this time around. And having lodging options — I also love staying at the Washington House Inn — is very good for the business community. The Castle of the Cedars provides a home away from home that is comfortable, but luxurious — everything one could ask for, including a perfect location on Cedar Creek. Highlights? Drinks at North48, lunch at the Stilt House, hiking at Riveredge, lake perch at Newport Shores, movie at the "Ravioli," visit to the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts, and on and on... needless to say, we'll be back.

Accommodations did not disappoint!

  • 5 of 5

The house is very clean and fully supplied with just about anything that you would need to make the stay feel like home. We used the house over the week of Christmas to accommodate family and we will most certainly use the property again!

The pride and thoughtfulness comes through in every area of the house, the Radmann's knocked it out of the park on this one. I would highly recommend this home to anyone.

Beautiful home with a beautiful view!

  • 5 of 5

5 of us stayed a weekend at Castle of the Cedars, a very beautiful home right on Cedar Creek. The owners were very meticulous in providing every direction and amenity you could imagine, all within a few blocks of lovely Cedarburg. They were also very knowledgeable and helpful in regards to getting around town. I would definitely stay here again with a slightly smaller group, thanks for a nice time!

History and Happiness!

  • 5 of 5

Castle of the Cedars was the PERFECT place to stay for the Wine and Harvest Festival! The town of Cedarburg is rich with history and we enjoyed that rare combination of heritage combined with a contemporary celebration, all within walking distance! A remarkable home transformation from its' humble beginnings to a stunning showpiece. It was organized, spotless and gorgeous! We loved that you framed small pieces of original linoleum found during reconstruction! The back patio area was wonderful! We enjoyed a fire, fishing and paddle boat trip up the creek. Our memories will certainly include our Granddaughter visiting and catching her very first fish with Grandpa! The complimentary wine and gift certificates were very appreciated. We look forward to visiting again in the future!

Great house!

  • 5 of 5

Five of us stayed at the house for a long weekend to attend an event in downtown Cedarburg - it was perfect! The house is beautiful, very clean and has everything you could ever want in terms of kitchen supplies, shampoo, bedding, etc. The back patio is especially lovely. It was a short walk into Cedarburg and was just what we needed for our weekend!

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Castle of the Cedars for a month this past summer and it was a wonderful escape from Arizona's hot summer. It was a perfect location for us, having grandchildren in the Milwaukee area and having lived in the Sheboygan area for 30+ years. The house is so well stocked with everything one could need, the patio with grill and fireplace was perfect for relaxing and entertaining. Our grandchildren enjoyed the paddleboat and learned to maneuver it up and down the creek. The downtown area is so quaint and fun, our favorite was The Stilt House. We will be back next year. Kathy, thank you for letting stay, you are a great hostess.

Consistently ranked as a favorite small town by visitors and residents, Cedarburg's natural beauty provides the perfect setting for living, shopping, spas, and exploration of the city's burgeoning arts community. Fascinating specialty stores, eclectic boutiques, charming & trendy restaurants, sensuous spas, museums, cozy taverns, quaint historic buildings, and a full calendar of festivals, entertainment and special events combine to make Cedarburg irresistible! Journey back 150 years to the limestone and cream city brick buildings where Landmark preservation has become a commitment of the entire community, with downtown listed in the National Register of Historic Places of over 100 buildings historically significant. From its birth in the 1840s, the source of Cedarburg's vigor was Cedar Creek where German and Irish immigrants built five dams and mills, historical landmarks today. Cedarburg earned first place in the 'Most Distinctive Architecture' category in the online Wonders of Wisconsin contest and in 2011 was honored by Forbes as 'one of the prettiest towns in America.'

In addition to its array of historical sites and museums, Cedarburg is known for its fun-filled festivals which bring in thousands of tourists annually. Some examples are Sip, Shop & Stroll (Ladies' Night Out), Fourth of July Hometown Celebration, Christmas tree-lighting ceremony and Christmas in the Country with First Friday Eves 'A Cedarburg Christmas-Everyone's Home for the Holidays', Friday Farmers Market, Maxwell Street Days 4 times per year, Winter Festival (February), Strawberry Festival (June), Wine & Harvest Festival (September), German Festival (October).

Recreation abounds in the area also. With Kohler only 30 minutes north, PGA Championship golf is close by along with several semi-private and public golf courses to enjoy. Take advantage of Lake Michigan's proximity by the adventure of charter fishing, kayaking, or enjoy a beach walk along miles of shoreline. Winter activities are just as refreshing from downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, ice sculpting, ice fishing, and simple snow-flake catching.

Residents and visitors alike enjoy a plethera of arts and entertainment from the Cedarburg Performing Arts complex, Cedarburg Cultural Center, Summer Sounds concert series, Gathering on the Green in Mequon, and the vast array in Milwaukee. Besides enjoying sporting events of the Brewer's, Buck's, & Admirals, take in a Chinook's ball game at Concordia's Kapco Field.

Enjoy our home in Cedarburg!
