Built in 2002, this all log structure features all the comforts of a home, but we call it a cottage as it sits lakeside, is decorated with life's comforts in mind, and offers the serenity of lake-life with ocean access nearby. Enjoy a morning fishing or kayaking, then hop in the lake that reaches 80 degrees by mid-July. For the more adventuresome, bring a boat for sailing, waterskiing, or just a cruise up and down this 14 mile long lake. Our place is at the narrow end, a mile above the dam that separates the lake from the Damariscotta River and offers low boat traffic, great fishing, and a dock location where you can enter and exit the lake in about 8 feet of water. Come enjoy this piece of paradise offering kayaks, a canoe, private dock, and shared float you can swim to. At day's end, return to the peace and quiet of your 3 bedroom log home with a screened-in porch spanning the width of the cottage and extending 14 feet toward the lake added in 2012. Rain or Shine, this is the place to be. Oh, and don't forget those cool Maine evenings where you can enjoy a blanket mid-summer! If that's not enough for you, the quaint town of Damariscotta is only 5 miles away and offers boutique shopping, great restaurant options, a full service grocery store and a place or two to grab a cocktail!
One of two log homes on the property (see THE LODGE, vrbo 350800). Built in the early 2000's as a family homestead. Kim and I, along with our three kids spend as much time as we can in the Summer at THE LODGE and rent THE NEST from May through October.
Chap Kistler - Owner of THE NEST purchased this house in 2003
Quiet summers in Maine. Cool nights. Lobster and Clams. Great Fishing, Warm lake (almost 80 degrees by July 4). Kayaks and Canoes, or bring your own powerboat. Some of the best large and small mouth bass fishing this country has to offer. Coastal options within a 15 minute drive. great town for shopping. Close enough, yet far enough away from Freeport Maine if you want outlet shopping. What more could you want?
Both THE NEST and THE LODGE were build by a local builder. Solid construction and great location
We have been coming here for a long time now and wouldn't have it any other way! The Loon's Nest is a wonderful place to go to relax and rejuvenate! There is so many things to see and do in the surrounding areas or you can be just as content relaxing on the deck or sitting on the porch listening to the loon's and other sounds of the woods! There's so much to do in the area that we would love to stay two weeks instead of just one!
Excellent vacation spot! Easy access to wonderful dining and tons of sightseeing. We spent days both driving around seeing the sights AND hanging out at The Nest. Both equally enjoyable. The accommodations were very comfortable and perfect for our whole family. Thanks!
We loved our vacation on the lake! Our family comes every year and haven't been disappointed yet! It's a great way to start our summer season. The area is beautiful with lots of sight-seeing and adventuring to do if interested. We could even be quite content to stay at The Nest, sitting on the dock and kayaking on the lake all day. Area restaurants are fabulous and everyone is as friendly as can be. Wonderful family memories!
What a great place to unwind and relax! The peacefulness of the screened-in deck overlooking the lake with birds chirping and loons calling is unmatched. With Pemaquid Point nearby, the wonderful stores in Damariscotta to shop in, the Hardy Boat out of New Harbor to see the puffins and seals and Monhegan, the great eating places all around like King Eider's Pub, The Cupboard Cafe, Muscongus Bay Lobster Pound and Round Top Ice Cream, it's a miracle that I ever dragged myself away to come home! I didn't even get to some of my usual places this time like Camden Harbor or the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath or the hiking trail at Dodge Point! Chap and Kim obviously take great pride in providing top-flight accommodations in the woods of Maine for others to enjoy what they have enjoyed for so many years -- a place that is clean, well-managed and certainly well cared for. If you want fun and relaxation in a comfortable home away from home, you can't do better than the Nest!
The Loon's Nest is just about the perfect Maine Lakehouse. The house is very well appointed. These are the best beds I've ever had at a VRBO rental, with a great comfortable couch, huge Samsung TV, and even the furniture on the screened in porch was great. My family and I come to Maine for a week every summer, and have come to Lake Damariscotta for three years in a row, and this is the best house we've had. The owner was great, the setting was very private, and this is one of the best lakes in Maine. You can't go wrong here.
The Family and I just LOVE this place!! We travel with my sister-in-law and her teenagers and everyone cn't wait to get here each year. The house is set up great for everyone to have their own space or to hang out together. The porch is an amazing spot to hang out! Whenever we're at the house that's where you will find us! (If we're not on the dock of course!)
The area has something to offer everyone from excellent food to automobiles. Whatever you are interested in you can find it! For the shoppers in the group, there are excellent shops both in town and also at local area towns.
Once you arrive here, you will never want to leave!
Moody's Diner, Damariscotta River Grill, King Eider's Pub, Schooner's Landing, Shaw's, Round Pound, Anchor Inn just to name a few
