Minutes from Park City. Miles from ordinary.
Tollgate Canyon is a unique combination: dramatic vistas; wildlife graciously sharing space with residents; and a community of neighbors who pull together to preserve and enjoy this stunning corner of the Rockies. Nestled in the Wasatch mountains, it offers a rare opportunity to live in open spaces populated by moose, elk and deer, minutes from shopping, dining, culture—and, of course, world-class ski resorts.
This is an eco friendly two bed one bath home, with moose pond. It's squeaky clean and close to the world class resorts of Park City.
We have added Netflix streaming in addition to Dish Network.
Located just minutes from Park City and the Uinta Mountains, our cabin offers the amenities of a resort area, but with all the solitude and quiet to recharge your batteries. You'll need four wheel drive or at a minimum all wheel drive for safe driving in the winter months.
Tollgate Canyon is located on I-80, exit #150. We're only 5 minutes east of the Park City exit and 45 minutes from the Salt Lake City International airport.
Property is clean and well maintained
We liked this house very much. It has terrific views, privacy and rustic appeal. It was clean and the owner was helpful. It comes at a great price for two couples or a small family. My son and I rented it for a few days in January many weeks ahead. Very intense storms moved just before our arrival and that made access challenging despite the fact that we have a very reliable all wheel drive car. The road is winding and in places steep. Indeed, we stopped to help a neighbor who was in a snowbank with his 4 wd. HOA does a good job of plowing and rescues people from snow banks, but still...access challenges remain.
Despite the charm there were a few small problems in addition to the road. Some can be corrected easily. ie. The kitchen cook ware must be redone. The frying pan is in such poor repair that the handle nearly separated from the pan and my son nearly poured hot bacon grease on his arm. Replacing the worn out cookware is an easy fix. The second problem is the stairs. Not so easy to fix. In a storm they are slippery. Hiring some one to shovel would help. But, for older people or those with limited fitness there are just too many. If you are reasonably young or have particularly good fitness the stairs are no problem. Don't bring a ton of luggage and leave the skis on the car. Third, the owner asks that renters take the trash to the dumpsters at the bottom of the hill. While we were there access to the dumpsters was difficult due to deep, slushy snow. And, the trash had not been picked up in a long, long time so the dumpsters were overflowing everywhere. Not so good. My son did not want to add to the heaps of trash bags that had been left outside the dumpsters. That was asking a bit much. Overall, a good house and if you know the issues ahead of time, you can weigh the pluses and minuses.
We spent new years eve here with another couple and 2 dogs and it was perfect. Beautiful views, clean, and cozy. Ann and Dan were very helpful and responsive, Dan even brought over an apple pie on the first night we were there, yum! There was firewood for the fireplace and heaters in every space to keep us warm. There are two couches now, instead of the chairs in the photo which was nice. Towels, pots, spices, and extra blankets were all available. We want to come back every year!
We spent our Christmas at this cabin and my family had a wonderful experience. We chose this location because we wanted snow at Christmas in a peaceful, rustic setting, away from the resort/commercial area. The owners went above and beyond to make our stay and Christmas pleasant and comfortable. They had a lit Christmas tree set up in the cabin with a basket of ornaments for our young girls to put on it. They also provided a constant supply of split firewood for us. The owners were even kind enough to bring us food and take us into town on Christmas Eve when we had a vehicle issue and unable to drive one day.
Even though there is plenty to do in Park City, it is easy to spend days just at the cabin enjoying the view, peacefulness, and snow. We spent hours sledding down the hills in the snow. We also saw lots of deer and an elk, even though it was not peak season for much of the wildlife. The locals, including the owner, regularly plow the roads on the mountain, including the cabin's driveway.
Even though the roads are regularly plowed, I highly recommend having a vehicle with 4x4 and snow tires. If no snow tires, then chains on the front tires. They can easily be picked up locally. Don't let that deter you because once you are on the mountain, it's breathtaking. On a side note, don't use Avis Car Rental because they do not allow chains on their tires.
My husband and i both had to work on Thanksgiving and decided to celebrate the holiday early with our 2 children. All the basics utinsels were there to provide a lovely dinner. Cabin was warm, there was plenty of wood to burn. Perfect place to have a quiet relaxing weekend. We would definately stay there again!
