"We have been blessed to find this gem on Anna Maria Island! It's by far the best place we've ever rented on VRBO. The home & property are exquisite (very clean & well-maintained). There is amazingly convenient access to take in the island culture and nearby beach, but we loved the serenity, beauty & quiet of the property itself. The private pool is fabulous & we've watched manatees in the water off the dock. This is my #1 recommendation for family/friends coming to Florida who need some well-deserved R & R."
We have stayed three times at this house for three 7-8 week stretches and it just about ticks off all the boxes . When you first drive up the house actually appears on the small side but as soon as you walk in you quickly find it's quite large . Big kitchen and eating area well equipped , great sitting area good sized TV with multiple channel choices to keep every age happy . The Master bedroom is large with a good sized en suite and walk in closet , the second bedroom has two queen size beds TV and well decorated . The third bedroom is the kids room with a bunk set up plus a single bed . The bathroom that serves these two bedrooms has one of the biggest showers I have seen . The lani off the main room is covered and ideal to hang out in if the weather dictates . Out side your right on the canal which is very wide and designated as a lake and the boat traffic is limited mostly to kayaks and paddle boarders and the occasional
Manatee .The pool , hot tub and deck are Excellent you won't be doing any Olympic swimming training but you can work out doing laps . Fishing off the deck is easy
and there is quite a variety of fish and if your a serious fisherman the owner has installed underwater fish lights and at night Snook gather to tease you and ignore your bait . One calm full moon night I counted 50 of these large fish just hanging out .
The location for the beaches is ideal , the Tampa Bay side with mostly calm water is maybe a four min walk , the beach at Bean Point might be 6- 7 min walk and as beaches go this is a beautiful beach and probably one of my favourite beaches in the
world and that is no exaggeration.
The secret of this house is you can walk to most of what you need to on this Island and if you can focus on parking your car grab some bikes you won't need the car except to make a food run .
Over the past 10 years I have rented four separate houses on AMI and this is by far
the best house I found .If all this sounds too good to be true it's not as this place is a gem .
We had so much fun. It is a gorgeous home. It is on the water. You really feel welcome. There are signs in the home that let you know the owners want you to be there and they want you to be happy. It is an easy, beautiful walk to the beach in either direction. My girlfriend loves the island. It has beautiful water but is quaint and not commercial with cool little restaurants. We rode bikes. We took a nice drive to Sarasota for an outdoor lunch and shopping for her and booked a fishing guide for me. And even though she out fished me, (of course) it was a great day. It rained and was colder one day, but amazingly, that day was the most fun of all. We turned on the hot tub, which was nice anyway after all the bike riding anyway. I bought some live shrimp and cast them in the canal behind the house. When we would get a bite, I would jump out of the hot tub to race to the rod and she die laughing because steam was apparently rising from my body. Just a fun, fun day. I've been on many vacations all over the world, and I have say, this was the best.
I could not have asked for a better experience for my first visit to Florida. The house sits on the canal so it appeared as a lake front property with very easy and close access to the open ocean. Best of both worlds! Very quiet neighbors with cozy trees, even saw an Eagle! The occasional rain showers were enjoyed on the screened in porch which is huge and could seat many. Everything I needed from the kitchen, to bath was provided along with helpful hints of the owners favorite spots to hit for dinner, desert and fun! Will absolutely stay at this property again! Hopefully with the same group of great ladies I was with.
Loved every part about our vacation --especially the perfect location and setting. The house was pristine with modern updates and decor. I loved drinking wine under the screened porch and my favorite thing was sitting on the dock drinking coffee in the morning and watching the marine life. Even saw a manatee swim by one morning. The house had everything we needed where we needed it and we felt like more like "old friends" to the owners--than renters. Can't wait to go back again and again! Will stay in the same place!!!
This home looks exactly like it does in the pictures. I second what everyone else has said about this house and location. If you can find a way to get to the island without a car you really don't need one once you are there.
A few tips:
1. I would suggest shopping at the Winn Dixie, located at 53rd and Manatee, on your way to the house. The first night we stopped at the Publix on E. Bay Dr and then a few days later stopped at the Winn Dixie and found Winn Dixie to be far less expensive than the Publix. While you can purchase wine and beer in the grocery stores in Florida the Winn Dixie also has a full liquor store right next door - one stop shopping.
2. When you stop at the grocery store make sure purchase a few rolls of toilet paper and a roll of paper-towels. These are not provided for you at the house. There may be some leftover from the last group who stayed, however this is not a given. They do provide bars of soap in each bathroom.
3. They do have a wonderful kitchen setup with a juicer, blender and a roomy refrigerator. They also have a small gas grill - enough room for a whole chicken and four leg-thigh sections. They have standard spices; salt, pepper, and garlic salt. If you want a specific spice plan on picking that up at the store.
4. There are two hairdryers, one in each bathroom.
We did have a few maintenance issues with the unit when we arrived and called on Sunday, for one, and first thing Monday morning, for the other, and they sent someone very quick to repair these issues. There was an issue with the ice maker in the fridge - however I think that might be a bigger issue. We ended up making ice in the trays in the freeze and dumping the container from the door ice maker into the ice container in the freezer and had all of the ice we needed for the week. This included enough ice for 4 rounds of Daiquiris. if you need more ice I'd pick some up at the store on your way to the house.
For thousands of years, humans have cast their nets on the sand flats and barrier islands in and around Anna Maria Island. Anna Maria’s location at the mouth of Tampa Bay has made it an important part of the history of the Gulf Coast, and the United States. It is one of a string of barrier islands along Floridas West Coast, including Marco Island, Sanibel Island, Gasparilla Island, Casey Key, Siesta Key, Lido Key and Longboat Key. Ladle-shaped Anna Maria Island is actually three cities, Anna Maria to the north, Holmes Beach in the middle and Bradenton Beach to the south. Each of these Manatee County cities has a slightly different identity, but all share the same relaxed feel, and the same beaches. Of the three, Holmes Beach is the largest, and has the most activity, including our island Publix.
