What a great stay! My wife and I had the pleasure of vacationing here over the Christmas holiday. When we walked in on Christmas Eve there was Christmas music playing on the radio and it was a wonderful way to arrive. The cabin has everything you need, so we never had to venture into town. It sits at the end of the road on the backside of a small mountain. What a view! The farm on the road into the property is very scenic as well.
The dogs absolutely loved the place. There were plenty of places for them to play. We enjoyed some long walks up the road as well. The hill at the top of the driveway is the perfect place to take the sunrise or the sunset, the views are stunning.
What surprised us most was how beautiful the town of Jefferson is. The entire area is picture perfect mountain living. We took a ride to Blowing Rock and hiked Julian Price Park one day. The ride there was extremely scenic and made the hour seem like 15 minutes. The hike itself was nothing short of spectacular.
The only negative I would give is the upstairs bedrooms are not well suited for a tall guy. I banged my head a couple of times. You think I would have learned after the first time, not the case. That said, we would stay here again in a heartbeat and we look forward to coming back some time in the not too distant future.
No t.v. which I love. Very quiet and beautiful scenery. The sunsets were gorgeous . Beautiful place to take pictures. ShatleySprings is only 20 minutes away and a wonderful place to eat a big breakfast. Blowing Rock is about an hour away and unique shops to visit. Boone is another town close by with great shops and eating places.
In our over 25 years in vacationing in the mountains of North Carolina, we have stayed in a variety of mountain cabins or retreats. We loved the Glendale House and really hated to leave. The description of seclusion, quiet, and comfortable is totally accurate. Sometimes cabin descriptions are totally inaccurate. The Glendale House feels like a home where other cabins do not and that is because the owners put so much of themselves into the house. You will have everything you need at the cabin, so not to worry in that department. The owners are very accommodating and quick in all communication. Getting to the house is very easy and we loved that so much. Easy to get to, but feeling you are away from the world. Enjoy the wicker chair in the sunroom. You can get an afternoon thunderstorm and still sit and enjoy the mountains surrounding you. Just terrific!
Our family of five, with three children (5, 12, 14), just returned from our stay at the Glendale house. The setting is beautiful and very peaceful. It is close to town (West Jefferson) and also an easy drive to Boone. We sat by the fire pit both nights. It was a real bonus to have dry firewood to use. The wireless internet worked very well. The house was stocked as though it was our own home. We tubed the New River one day (Zaloo's Canoes, which is just a few minutes from the house). The kids did not want to leave which is a great compliment itself. The owner was very easy to deal with, and the house was clean when we arrived. Wish we could go back next weekend!
We found the cabin to be homey and just what we needed for our couple days away with the kids.
We truly enjoyed our stay at The Glendale House. Beautiful views, cozy home with all that we needed and more. Our dogs loved the yard and our hikes down the mountain to the river. A perfect way to celebrate our nineteenth anniversary!
