About the property

The Glendale House

If you are interested in seclusion,

dark skies, endless scenic views with

the glorious Mount Jefferson as a

backdrop, birdsongs, deer and

turkey, you have found your vacation

The Glendale House, situated on

33 acres at the end of a dirt road, is

ideal for folks wanting a break from

the urban pace. Just 82 miles from

downtown Winston-Salem, 1/4th

mile from the New River, 2 miles

from the Blue Ridge Parkway, the area

offers hiking, biking, golf,

tubing, canoeing, fishing, good

restaurants, a great arts district in

West Jefferson, and peace and quiet. Ben Long Fresco's are located in Glendale Springs, 3 miles from the cabin.

For the winter guest, weather permitting, tobogganing, sledding on the property, Appalachian Ski Mountain 32 miles via the Parkway.

The cozy 1,100 square foot

cabin is in a most beautiful place. The

cabin has maple floors and cabinets,

two bedrooms upstairs with hand crafted

beds, sunroom drawing in the

outside, one bathroom, no television,

no dishwasher, a washer and dryer,

picnic table and gas grill on the deck,

fire place in the back yard, a birdfilled

front yard, high speed wireless

internet connection and the upstairs has air conditioning. The cabin is

fully furnished and very inviting.

This lovely cabin is overlooking the New River Valley. As the fog raises in the morning and your coffee is brewing, you will see seven bends in this historic river valley and hear the rapids below. Your view is of the undistribued Blue Ridge Mountains with very few homes in the viewshed across the river valley.

The cabin is fully furnished. It is decorated with originial art, handcrafted furniture, pottery and photography. The office has high speed internet, a fax/copier and desk. A stargazer haven.

The cabin was charming, clean, and very well equipped.

The cabin was perfect for my husband and I and our two dogs. It was so peaceful and relaxing. It's close to state parks, hiking trails, the parkway, restaurants, and grocery stores. I would recommend the Glendale House.

Owner's Response: I have only received one four star review in the past four years, is there something I can do to improve my offering? I take pride in the home, surroundings and description of the property.

Just what we wanted

  • 5 of 5

Wife and I were looking for a weekend of quiet and seclusion. The Glendale House gave us just what we wanted. The only noise was the echo of the cows moving to the barn on a nearby farm and the songs of the many, many birds (multiple bird houses adorn the property). The sunset across the mountains on the back deck gave way to absolute tranquility with a glorious star-studded sky and no ambient surface lights to mar the horizon.

Mr. Considine, the owner, warned us about GPS inaccuracies, but we had no problem using our satellite GPS though understand cell phone GPS might be questionable as signal was sporadic on way into the Glendale House. However, we did have cell phone text message capability and the availability of internet wifi gave us all the communication we needed - or wanted!

The only drawback we experienced was the stairs up to the bedroom were a bit of a challenge for arthritic wife and the only bathroom was downstairs (she did successfully negotiate several times, just slowly) .

We hope to return for another, longer, visit in the fall.

Great location, quiet and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Great location, beautiful views - tons of stars at night, and yes Milky Way... Comfortable house, fully equipped kitchen, fast wi-fi, no TV (very good way to unwind). Sunroom was our favorite place. Pat (owner) came over and took me for a great walk with our (his and ours) dogs.

Will recommend to my friends. Lots of great hikes in the area - Mt. Jefferson park, etc.
