Tertulia at Amber Ridge – where good friends and family gather in stunningly beautiful, peaceful surroundings to enjoy each other’s company over great food and wine. Deep relaxation, pleasant conversation, laughter and joy ensue! Tertulia is a fabulous two-acre Wine Country sanctuary surrounded on all sides by vineyards as far as the eye can see, with views of the foothills in the distance.
The elegant main home is a 4br/3ba, nearly 4000 sq. ft., two-story, gated estate with central heat/AC, a spectacular gourmet kitchen, abundant high end architectural details and custom finishes, fine furnishings, and the entire home is floored in honed hickory hardwood made even more comfortable with the addition of many beautiful area rugs. The accommodations can also include a lovely, spacious 1br/1ba loft above the 3-car garage, with lovely attached bathroom below. The extensively landscaped 2-acre grounds with in-ground pool and spa, outdoor kitchen, dramatic outdoor dining area and large gas firepit are surrounded by vineyards on all sides including those that produce a famed Kosta Browne Pinot Noir.
This beautifully appointed home offers the best of both worlds. Enjoy the spectacular setting of Tertulia as well as the fabulous dining, wine tasting, galleries, and shops of charming, historic, upscale Healdsburg - the “crown jewel” of Sonoma County’s Wine Country, only 5 miles to the north. This very special home is located in the heart of Sonoma County- the “Tuscany” of Northern California - with Napa valley just over the hills to the east.
Imagine awakening to the cool tranquility of an agrarian setting among the vines. Enjoy your morning coffee or tea from a rocking chair on a shady porch overlooking luscious landscaping, manicured vineyards and the hills beyond as hot air balloons drift silently by overhead. Contemplate your day’s agenda – perhaps planning meals to make the best use of fresh offerings from Tertulia’s garden planters or a local farmer’s market, or maybe plotting your path to a winery or two before your coveted dinner reservation at a Healdsburg restaurant or a meal prepared by, or for, your group in the generous chef-friendly indoor and outdoor kitchens.
When afternoon arrives, like clockwork, notice the afternoon breezes that clear the warm air before sunset. As evening falls slowly, gather on the patio to watch the sun fade along with the din of conversation. You might choose to dine al fresco at the majestic redwood slab table under the shelter of two ancient black walnut trees. And to end your day, unwind in the pool and spa as you gaze at the stars above – so bright in the dark night sky removed from the city lights. This is Tertulia at Amber Ridge.
From the Front porch you first arrive in the Bluestone Upper Courtyard framed by beautiful syar stone sitting walls and gardens with Hydrangea, Camellia, Dwarf Barberry and a specimen red barked Japanese Maple. Continue down the generous steps into the Main Sculpture Courtyard framed by additional walls and Green Beauty Boxwoods to marvel at the the sculpture by renowned local artist Bruce Johnson, "EKO". Lookout over the cascading meadow of local grasses - Atlas Fescue, Mat Rush, Oriental and Purple Fountain Grass, Veldt and Autumn Moor Grasses and lavender ... off into some of the finest vineyards in the Russian River. Relax under the arbor of the majestic 100 year old California Oak while others enjoy an afternoon game of Bocce in the world class setting.
Fruit Trees: Adding to the grove of Pendolino and Manzanilla Olive Trees, the following fruit trees have been added: Cherry, Snow White Peach, Flavor King Pluot, Burgundy Plum, Fuyu Persimmon, Washington Navel Orange, Meyer Lemon, Black Mission Fig, Pineapple Guava bush, Dwarf Raspberry Bushes, Asian Pear, Bay Tree, and English Black Walnut Trees.

Abundant outdoor amenities include: a large, seating-wall enclosed, dining patio with plenty of outdoor furniture shaded by two specimen olive trees; a generous full-featured outdoor kitchen with BBQ, sink, refrigerator and counter prep space; a 40' x 18' heated in-ground pool including an inset spa to comfortably seat 8 guests with an automated safety cover; a generous pool deck with chaise lounges and umbrellas; a stunning 18' redwood slab picnic table nestled in the shade of two mature black walnut trees; an oversized natural gas fire pit. And just across the driveway is a workout room with Precor treadmill, an Elliptical trainer, a Diamondback recumbent bike, mats and light weights, and a 40” Flat ScreenTV and DVD player.
Make your way to the formal main entrance via a walkway shaded by a row of majestic birch trees, and let the tour begin! From the front entry hall, find a welcoming view through the library to a beautiful antique rug, round table and oversized handcrafted Mexican vase, and further on through the sliding glass doors to a generous wrap-around veranda overlooking a grass lawn edged by flower beds, olive and oak trees, and vineyards and hills beyond. Turn just to your left and move down the window-lined hallway to find the true heart of Tertulia – a generous kitchen worthy of the most discriminating chef.
The kitchen transitions to an informal dining room with a large farmhouse table seating up to 12, a floor-to-ceiling antique oak hutch with an eclectic library of cookbooks, and double sliding doors opening to the arbor-covered side porch that looks out onto the two established black walnut trees and beautiful redwood picnic table, providing shady daytime shelter and a lovely interplay of light and shadow as the sun moves across the sky. Beyond the walnut trees, discover the planter boxes filled with organically grown seasonal herbs and vegetables for your use to enhance your culinary experiences at Tertulia.
Back inside, from the informal dining area, it is a couple of steps up into the living area with two large sofas, a lovely wool area rug, twin coffee tables, two leather cube stools, and a large entertainment center anchored by a wall-mounted Samsung 55” LED 3-D TV with a Sony Blu-ray player, Yamaha surround sound receiver, Xbox 360, whole house WiFi, and a DISH HD receiver. Wharfedale speaker towers stand on each side of the entertainment center providing a great audio experience in the living area, and the home has a whole house sound system with ceiling-mounted speakers in the kitchen, living room, formal dining room, and Master Suite. There is a main level bedroom with queen bed.
Beyond the formal living room is the formal dining room with a large window overlooking the manicured lawn, a beautiful dining table and chairs seating 8, a unique limestone fossil side table, cloisonné sconces and lovely artwork. Past the dining room is the large antique rug that welcomed you as you entered the home. At the end of the room, find a quiet sitting area perfect for contemplation or an intimate conversation, or to browse the internet from your laptop on the whole home wifi.
Returning to the library, continue through to the entry again and down the hallway to the staircase. First discover the full bath at the foot of the stairs, with a large tiled walk-in shower, and lovely pedestal sink. Then follow the banistered stairs to the second floor. First pass the quiet pocket-doored laundry room with a new large Maytag washer and dryer set, iron and ironing board, and the large linen closet just across the hall.
On the left is the large Master Suite with a beautiful ebony wood 4-poster king bed, antique wood and marble topped nightstands, beautiful lamps, an iHome clock radio docking station, a comfortable leather chair with ottoman, a desk, a large 8-drawer dresser, a wall-mounted Samsung 46” LED HD TV with DISH HD receiver, a small pocket-doored, walk-in closet, and a set of glass sliding doors leading to the Master’s balcony. The en suite master bath features a lovely clawfoot soaking tub with a large draped window overlooking the majestic black walnut trees. Double pedestal sinks and an extra large walk-in shower with rainforest showerhead and a shower wand complete this beautiful master bath.
Across from the Master Suite are the third and fourth bedrooms, both with queen beds, wall-mounted Samsung 32” HD TVs with DISH HD receivers, nightstands, lamps, chairs, one with a secretary desk, and one with a side table, and both with iHome clock radio docking stations, and wide sliding-door closets. Completing the upstairs is a shared, third full bath with a large pedestal sink and a large tiled walk-in shower.
Considering the splendor of it all and the spectacular and abundant amenities and features of this magnificent property, you may never want to leave, and when you do, you will likely want to come back soon. While Tertulia at Amber Ridge is the perfect place to relax and soak in the surroundings or entertain friends, it also provides easy access to the many adventures to be enjoyed in Healdsburg and the surrounding areas.
We had a wonderful time. The house was perfect, everything we could have asked for. Thanks for all of your help.
We stayed at this property with three other couples during the third week of October. The property is absolutely beautiful, nestled among a beautiful vineyard and incredibly quiet. During the evenings we enjoyed the outdoor gas fire and hot tub. Each morning, hot-air balloons floated by making some great photo opportunities!
We took advantage of the wonderful kitchen to cook and even made use of fresh vegetables including squash and tomatoes right out of the garden on the property and limes as well. On other nights we made our way to Windsor or Healdsburg for dinner after days spent tasting wine opting for our favorite cabs and zins.
There is plenty of room for 4 couples and the floor-plan allows for more than adequate privacy. We would highly recommend this property for a group and we may well visit again.
The house and the pool were great very nice property I highly recommend it 1st Class all the way
For our annual girls' get-away weekend, we are always in search of the perfect location. We found it at Tertulia. Its comfortable elegance, premier location, privacy, and welcoming vibe is exactly what we were looking for. The home provided abundant common space for our group of 10 women to congregate while relaxing, dining together, cooking breakfast, and dinner. There are also plenty of private enclaves to find quiet space alone or one-on-one time. It speaks volumes that two members of our group are professional designer/architects and loved this home. The large, and comfortably appointed guest house above the garage is adorable, and its associated remodeled bathroom below even has heated floors for additional comfort on a chilly night. Tertulia's property managers provided excellent communication from start to finish, including a thorough orientation so we could confidently enjoy the fire pit, pool, and hot tub. We are so grateful the owners are willing to share this magnificent property. Tertulia is a gem and deserves only the most respectful renters. We look forward to returning again!
When I visit properties like this one, I envy the owner's savvy to have found it in the first place. Somehow, this is a place where you can "get away from it all" and feel completely peaceful. Yet, you're incredibly close to the best of what else this region has to offer. If that weren't enough of a rarity itself, the housing represents a similar combination. You could call these buildings "farm style" I suppose. They're quite big, yet not imposing. Everything feels inviting. Yet, inside you'll find the most modern amenities and styles, clean lines, beautiful views, and comfortable luxury. Living here feels like the owners have considered all your senses and attended to each one of them in just the right way. Highly recommended.
Other reviewers have said it well - Tertulia is everything one could ask for in a vacation rental. Our large group felt right at home (if home had the comfiest beds and was surrounded by rose bushes, bountiful gardens, and vineyards...). I loved baking and cooking with ingredients right from the gardens in Tertulia's well-stocked kitchen complete with professional stove. When we weren't cooking inside or in the outdoor kitchen, we were eating and drinking at the excellent restaurants and wineries just a few minutes drive away.
The grounds at Tertulia are especially gorgeous, with a beautifully-kept yard for playing lawn games and walking barefoot in the grass, vegetable and flower gardens overflowing with produce, a huge redwood table for outdoor dining, and a pool/jacuzzi for fun and relaxation. Inside we enjoyed myriad comfy seating areas, a truly impressive entertainment system, wifi, and spacious, luxurious bedrooms and bathrooms.
It's clear the owners have thought about guests' comfort and enjoyment down to every last detail. Thanks for the fantastic getaway venue!
Elegant and perfectly appointed, Tertulia provided every comfort with five-star attention to detail. Sitting on a gentle rise above the adjoining vineyards with meticulously maintained lawns and overflowing gardens, the setting wowed. How nice that someone thought to position an intimate pair of chairs to take in the vista where I could curl up every morning with a lamb's wool blanket and a mug of tea before the rest of the household woke up. How nice, too, that under the canopy of branches of a walnut tree, there was a long table perfect for our large group to have breakfast together--breakfast that included scones baked with the blackberries from the brambles lining "our" drive or eggs with the zucchini, potatoes and onions picked in "our" vegetable garden. After days spent at nearby wineries, tooling around towns and shops, or sightseeing, it was wonderful to all come together at the resort-worthy pool with built-in hot tub for a dip or a soak or both. Some nights when we by-passed the gourmet kitchen, the outdoor kitchen and the pizza oven to go out on the town, we met back "home" to chat and laugh around the fire pit (bring marshmallows). Other nights we stayed put, sipping wine from the day's excursions, playing bocce, and enjoying tomatoes and basil from the gardens drizzled with olive oil made from Tertulia's own olive trees. Late at night, some people took advantage of the entertainment center and impressive collection of movies, but I was usually off to sleep in the most comfortable bed I have ever experienced--jet lag didn't stand a chance. Tertulia provided every amenity I could have wished for and then added thoughtful and luxurious touches beyond what I could have imagined.
