Enjoy the privacy of the country without leaving the convenience of town. No through traffic and plenty of room to stretch out during your stay. Enjoy walks along paved road and beautiful views of neighboring horse farms. Fish the creek or enjoy a leisurely kayak trip downstream and back. We also have another property listed as Prairie Creek Cabin if this property is not available for your stay. We also own and operate the Sassafras Inn which sleeps up to 10 between 4 private guest rooms each with private baths.
My husband and I relocated to Mena in 2010 and have fallen in love with the community and the great outdoors. We built this property as a guest house for visiting friends and family on the outskirts of 20 acres in a great neighborhood. We took up residence on the far side of the property so that we and our guests could enjoy this great location but still maintain that feeling of privacy. We lived in the cottage for 2 years while deciding on where to make our permanent home. After buying our neighbors house on the adjoining property and settling in to our new home, we finished out the second half of the building into this great studio for VRBO guests to enjoy. We hope you enjoy your stay!

Received this handwritten note from guest who was traveling through and needed to stay that same night:
"Thank you so much for accommodating us at the last minute. you have a wonderful place here and we wish we could have stayed longer. We plan on sharing your place with friends. We really enjoyed our stay." Cindy from Texas
Prairie Creek Cottage was a great place to stay. It had everything we needed and was easy to get to. Very relaxed environment. I would rent again!
Very much enjoyed our stay. Perfect get away for our small family. Mena is beautiful just to drive around. Kayaks were a great plus and easily accessible for my husband who uses a wheel chair. Some minor cosmetic work (grass overgrown, bad board on patio fell through). The weather was extra hot however the fan and lighting on the patio made outdoor time enjoyable. Thank you for the games. We needed to unwind from a long stressful year and this was the perfect place to just enjoy each other. I'm ready to go back!
It is listed as a cottage, but that is not quite accurate. It is a beautifully appointed little duplex but was not quite as private as I had hoped. I kept worrying my kids were too loud or the TV was too loud. We had a lovely time though! And there was so much to do at the cabin we rarely left (except to get fishing bait and go crystal hunting). The one seat kayaks were a big hit with my kids and the creek/ river was so calm that I wasn't worried about the kids (ages 9-12) being on their own with their life jackets (which were provided). The cottage has a large flat screen TV and cable which my kids would watch as an escape from the heat of the afternoons. ( it does lack a DVD player). In the evenings we would fish from the banks and caught an assortment of crappie, sunfish, bass, and catfish. Most were small and we threw those back but both the catfish and bass were big enough to keep. The porch was lovely and has a grill available. My husband and kids brought their BB guns and practiced target shooting in the large field. We had such a great time we even contacted the owners to see if we could stay for and extra day ( which we did). Two things for future visitors- bring cooking spices if you want anything more salt and pepper, and know that cell phone coverage is limited in the area). The kids are already planning to come back next year and I will definitely recommend it to others.
Thank you so much for letting us stay at the cottage. I have been in the Air Force for 20+ years and needed some time to unplug. Plus recently being diagnosed with cancer it was good to unwind and relax. We had such a good time relaxing in the cottage and kayaking in the creek area. I would highly recommend this cottage.
Hosts were very nice and easy to communicate with. The cottage was very clean. Had everything you might want/need for an overnight or extended stay.
Loved having the kayaks available on the creek. Very close to downtown Mena. Will definitely recommend to anyone I know who is heading that direction.
Cozy homey place with everything you need including full kitchen, washer, and dryer. Owner responded very quickly to a need we had. Wish bedroom had separate wall from living room. Recommend!
Enjoy golf, fishing, ATV riding, hiking, mountain biking, scenic drives, kayaking, canoeing all within a 15 minute drive. Dine at local restaurants where live music plays weekly.
Stroll around Janssen Park while the kids play, hike any number of trails through Queen Wilhelmina State Park and the Ouachita National Forrest. Kayak or canoe the Ouachita River or the Cossatot - watch out for the 'washing machine' class IV rapids on the Cossatot!
Visit our local downtown shops and art museum where you will find many unique items and some really friendly people! Spend an afternoon or evening at the historic Little Ouachita Theater where local talent performs great works weekly.
