Our family-owned cottage sits under a huge willow tree that we played under as kids. We welcome you to enjoy the quiet, savor the night sky, explore all that surrounds this beautiful area, and then cook up your latest catch at our fully furnished cottage that sleeps up to six persons. Kid and pet friendly. Ample parking for boats, ATVs, jet skis, etc. Here you have the best of both worlds, the quiet small town country feel that allows you to kick back and relax, and yet are able to get to the action of the city in 30 minutes. A BBQ grill and charcoal is provided along with outside furniture and a fire pit...a great way to end a wonderful day.
My name is Kari, as a girl I spent my summers here with my grandparents, enjoying the beauty of Northern Michigan while I worked with my grandpa around the homestead. Almost 30 years ago my grandparents were unable to keep the property due to health reasons and sold it to another family member, although I was glad it was still in the family I had always thought of it as mine. Then in 2006 my dream came true and I came home again! During the last year I have completely renovated the cottage and am excited about sharing the love I have for this place with others.
Kari Barker purchased this cottage in 2006
My grandparents purchased this property in 1975, at that time is was in rough shape, yet they had a vision of what could be and turned their homestead into a Benzie County landmark. Before the new boat launch went in and the road was reconfigured, all anyone would have to say is 'the V property' and it was immediately recognized.
The cottage is newly remodeled and is cozy, comfortable, quiet and beautiful. Although it is located just of of M-115 it is very quiet and almost remote feeling, except that you are centrally located in Benzie county and close to so many activities(boat launch, beaches, trails, fishing, skiing, and snowmobiling). As I furnished the cottage I put a lot of thought into what families or friends would want and need in a vacation home, and I wanted it to truly be a home away from home. With that in mind, all linens and towels are provided, there is a full kitchen with all dishware, pots and pans and utensils available. Paper products such as toilet paper, paper towels, napkins and food storage have been provided as well as charcoal for the grill. Pets are welcome! I believe this would be a comfortable place to stay for couples, families, skiers, fisherman and those who love the fall colors...all are welcome.
It was such a cute, cozy place. Kari was very kind. We really enjoyed our welcome gift of fruit and goodies. We love Frankfort and enjoyed the walking trails down the street. We will definitely come back.
My husband and I spent 3 nights for our 12 year anniversary. This cute little cottage was perfect for us! It was clean and had everything we needed. I would take my family of 4 here in the future. Charming
A great place to stay in the Frankfort area. The cottage was clean and inviting and had everything we needed for a weekend away. Kari is upmost accommodating; she had wine, a cake and a very nice card for us to wish a happy anniversary upon our arrival. Thank you Kari, we will definitely stay again next time we are in the area!
This cottage was absolutely perfect for our family. 2 adults, a baby, and a small dog. There was plenty of room for us to be comfortable and enough room in the bedroom for our pack and play. Kari was extremely accommodating and hospitable. There were fresh flowers and a tray of goodies waiting for us along with a provided baby bather and bottle drainer. She even had delicious homemade dog treats for our fur baby. We loved the property and I really enjoyed the big beautiful willow tree as well as the different pear trees she has. We barbequed and made a nice bon fire. The beach is close by at Crystal Lake as well as the beautiful Frankfort about 10 minutes down the road. We found a nice private spot on the shore of Lake Michigan to enjoy the beach. It's sort of off the path a bit and you might want to take a truck or an AWD vehicle to get there safely. Can't remember exactly where it was but the locals would know. It's worth it!! Oh, and bring bikes! There's an amazing bike trail that runs all along Crystal Lake and beyond. We had a baby so we walked on it a bit and it was gorgeous. There's plenty to do around town and in Frankfort but if you want to go elsewhere it's not far from Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City, or even Ludington. It was definitely a nice peaceful place to come home to and we will book again for sure!
We stayed here for one night just to get away and it was great, less then 10 minutes from Frankfort, very quiet and relaxing, clean and organized. We plan to go back in the future and take our bikes as there are great trails in the area.
We highly recommend this as a weekend away. Very clean, updated and quiet. Gorgeous area and very close to the lake with really nice biking trails. Kari was there if we needed her but we didn't see her. She even added a personal touch for my husbands birthday. We would definitely go back.
Fifty yards from the new Crystal Lake boat launch, near the Platte and Betsie Rivers, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Frankfort/Elberta and Lake Michigan, Empire, Interlochen, Manistee and Traverse City. Surrounded by biking/hiking trails that provide access to the surrounding towns. Northern Michigan's famous Cherry Bowl Drive-in is within 6 miles and a terrific family experience!
