About Kari Barker

My name is Kari, as a girl I spent my summers here with my grandparents, enjoying the beauty of Northern Michigan while I worked with my grandpa around the homestead. Almost 30 years ago my grandparents were unable to keep the property due to health reasons and sold it to another family member, although I was glad it was still in the family I had always thought of it as mine. Then in 2006 my dream came true and I came home again! During the last year I have completely renovated the cottage and am excited about sharing the love I have for this place with others.

Kari Barker purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Kari Barker chose Northern Michigan

My grandparents purchased this property in 1975, at that time is was in rough shape, yet they had a vision of what could be and turned their homestead into a Benzie County landmark. Before the new boat launch went in and the road was reconfigured, all anyone would have to say is 'the V property' and it was immediately recognized.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is newly remodeled and is cozy, comfortable, quiet and beautiful. Although it is located just of of M-115 it is very quiet and almost remote feeling, except that you are centrally located in Benzie county and close to so many activities(boat launch, beaches, trails, fishing, skiing, and snowmobiling). As I furnished the cottage I put a lot of thought into what families or friends would want and need in a vacation home, and I wanted it to truly be a home away from home. With that in mind, all linens and towels are provided, there is a full kitchen with all dishware, pots and pans and utensils available. Paper products such as toilet paper, paper towels, napkins and food storage have been provided as well as charcoal for the grill. Pets are welcome! I believe this would be a comfortable place to stay for couples, families, skiers, fisherman and those who love the fall colors...all are welcome.

Very Cute

  • 5 of 5

We were warmly greeted by the owner with a warm smile and ready to make our stay as pleasant as possible. if anything was wrong or missed something we only needed to ask. there were fresh flowers, cookies, muffins and a welcome note. the place was adorable! we enjoyed fishing and swimming in Crystal Lake just around the corner then in the evenings we sat around a fire roasting marshmallows. What a terrific place to stay. we hope to make it our go to place for family vacations. Thanks Kari!

Had the Best Time!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I enjoyed our stay at Mollineaux Cottage very much. Kari has such a big heart and a generous nature. The cottage was so cozy and Kari decorated it for our son's 4th birthday. She welcomed us with a huge fruit bowl, presents for the kids, treats for the dogs, and a bottle of wine for mom and dad. We really felt like we were old friends who had come to visit. It was like home away from home. It was so wonderful that we were able to bring our two dogs with us, as they are part of the family too! The kitchen was perfect and we used it a lot during our stay. Our son made good use of the tv and blu-ray player after being out and about all day. There were games to play, and plenty of extra blankets, towels, etc...and if we ever needed anything, Kari was happy to help.

The location was perfect and allowed us to visit all the little villages as well as travel up to the Old Mission peninsula. We stayed five days but it all flew by so fast. I would love to return again to that beautiful Crystal Lake and search the beach at Point Betsie for Petoskey stones again. I loved the little shops in Beulah and Frankfort. The cottage property in itself was very beautiful. The beach of course was the best. We couldn't have done any of this without Kari and her wonderful cottage. Loved it and will definitely return!

Great location, clean and cozy place

  • 5 of 5

Great location for exploring area, being near the boat launch was important for us, so this was ideal - walking distance. Note - it is located right on M115, somewhat busy highway, but large yard space is very nice.

Loved our stay at Mollineaux Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Mollineaux Cottage is cute, cozy and very clean. It had everything we needed for our annual girls get-away. Everything! Even a welcoming bowl of fruit, thank you. The cottage sits in a spot among some grasses and trees. Despite its nearness to the owners home, we had lots of our own space around the front and side of the cottage.

The cottage is close to all the shops and eateries in town. There are interesting small towns and cities nearby. Natural beauty abounds, especially the magnificent Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes and the great and awe inspiring Lake Michigan.

If you love the water, but can live without being on it, this place can save you significant money. It's just ten minutes away from the long sandy shores of Frankfort's and Elberta's Lake Michigan beaches.

Thank you Kari for creating a clean, affordable home away from home. Mollineaux Cottage has become our "go to place" and we look forward to returning next year.

Great Getaway Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Cute and clean cottage that has everything you need. Everything was ready for us and the welcome gift was delicious! Kari put soul into this and we felt like home. We are already planning to come back this summer. The only negative part was that our mini vacation was too short.

Great communication with Kari by email or phone.

Thank you for all!
