About Kari Barker

My name is Kari, as a girl I spent my summers here with my grandparents, enjoying the beauty of Northern Michigan while I worked with my grandpa around the homestead. Almost 30 years ago my grandparents were unable to keep the property due to health reasons and sold it to another family member, although I was glad it was still in the family I had always thought of it as mine. Then in 2006 my dream came true and I came home again! During the last year I have completely renovated the cottage and am excited about sharing the love I have for this place with others.

Kari Barker purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Kari Barker chose Northern Michigan

My grandparents purchased this property in 1975, at that time is was in rough shape, yet they had a vision of what could be and turned their homestead into a Benzie County landmark. Before the new boat launch went in and the road was reconfigured, all anyone would have to say is 'the V property' and it was immediately recognized.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is newly remodeled and is cozy, comfortable, quiet and beautiful. Although it is located just of of M-115 it is very quiet and almost remote feeling, except that you are centrally located in Benzie county and close to so many activities(boat launch, beaches, trails, fishing, skiing, and snowmobiling). As I furnished the cottage I put a lot of thought into what families or friends would want and need in a vacation home, and I wanted it to truly be a home away from home. With that in mind, all linens and towels are provided, there is a full kitchen with all dishware, pots and pans and utensils available. Paper products such as toilet paper, paper towels, napkins and food storage have been provided as well as charcoal for the grill. Pets are welcome! I believe this would be a comfortable place to stay for couples, families, skiers, fisherman and those who love the fall colors...all are welcome.

Very Cute

  • 5 of 5

We were warmly greeted by the owner with a warm smile and ready to make our stay as pleasant as possible. if anything was wrong or missed something we only needed to ask. there were fresh flowers, cookies, muffins and a welcome note. the place was adorable! we enjoyed fishing and swimming in Crystal Lake just around the corner then in the evenings we sat around a fire roasting marshmallows. What a terrific place to stay. we hope to make it our go to place for family vacations. Thanks Kari!

Cozy stay

  • 4 of 5

The Mollineaux Cottage was a cozy and comfortable place for my daughter and I to stay at for three nights. Kari happened to be pulling in at the same time we were arriving and she gave us lots of great ideas for dinner. Otherwise, she gave us complete privacy as the cottage is on the same property as her home. We also had cupcakes waiting for us upon arrival and a cute stuffed puppy for my daughter to take home with her, which was extremely sweet. I was expecting a little bit more of a secluded location. I had read another review that it was close to a road, so I was aware of that. But, it's actually between two roads, one busier than the other, but still active. So, I was a bit disappointed in that regard. We were there to visit Sleeping Bear Dunes primarily and the location of the cabin was convenient enough for that and it was a quiet place to come home to at the end of the day, besides some road noise. The cabin had plenty of dishes, towels, etc.- very well stocked. The cleanliness was acceptable. It wasn't dirty by any means, but there were some things that I noticed, with the couches especially, that didn't make me feel like they were super well kept. If I could have given it 3.5 stars, I would have, but definitely 4 over 3. Bottom line- it worked well for us, I slept soundly, and the owner was lovely and thoughtful.
