Our family-owned cottage sits under a huge willow tree that we played under as kids. We welcome you to enjoy the quiet, savor the night sky, explore all that surrounds this beautiful area, and then cook up your latest catch at our fully furnished cottage that sleeps up to six persons. Kid and pet friendly. Ample parking for boats, ATVs, jet skis, etc. Here you have the best of both worlds, the quiet small town country feel that allows you to kick back and relax, and yet are able to get to the action of the city in 30 minutes. A BBQ grill and charcoal is provided along with outside furniture and a fire pit...a great way to end a wonderful day.
My name is Kari, as a girl I spent my summers here with my grandparents, enjoying the beauty of Northern Michigan while I worked with my grandpa around the homestead. Almost 30 years ago my grandparents were unable to keep the property due to health reasons and sold it to another family member, although I was glad it was still in the family I had always thought of it as mine. Then in 2006 my dream came true and I came home again! During the last year I have completely renovated the cottage and am excited about sharing the love I have for this place with others.
Kari Barker purchased this cottage in 2006
My grandparents purchased this property in 1975, at that time is was in rough shape, yet they had a vision of what could be and turned their homestead into a Benzie County landmark. Before the new boat launch went in and the road was reconfigured, all anyone would have to say is 'the V property' and it was immediately recognized.
The cottage is newly remodeled and is cozy, comfortable, quiet and beautiful. Although it is located just of of M-115 it is very quiet and almost remote feeling, except that you are centrally located in Benzie county and close to so many activities(boat launch, beaches, trails, fishing, skiing, and snowmobiling). As I furnished the cottage I put a lot of thought into what families or friends would want and need in a vacation home, and I wanted it to truly be a home away from home. With that in mind, all linens and towels are provided, there is a full kitchen with all dishware, pots and pans and utensils available. Paper products such as toilet paper, paper towels, napkins and food storage have been provided as well as charcoal for the grill. Pets are welcome! I believe this would be a comfortable place to stay for couples, families, skiers, fisherman and those who love the fall colors...all are welcome.
This cottage was absolutely perfect for our family. 2 adults, a baby, and a small dog. There was plenty of room for us to be comfortable and enough room in the bedroom for our pack and play. Kari was extremely accommodating and hospitable. There were fresh flowers and a tray of goodies waiting for us along with a provided baby bather and bottle drainer. She even had delicious homemade dog treats for our fur baby. We loved the property and I really enjoyed the big beautiful willow tree as well as the different pear trees she has. We barbequed and made a nice bon fire. The beach is close by at Crystal Lake as well as the beautiful Frankfort about 10 minutes down the road. We found a nice private spot on the shore of Lake Michigan to enjoy the beach. It's sort of off the path a bit and you might want to take a truck or an AWD vehicle to get there safely. Can't remember exactly where it was but the locals would know. It's worth it!! Oh, and bring bikes! There's an amazing bike trail that runs all along Crystal Lake and beyond. We had a baby so we walked on it a bit and it was gorgeous. There's plenty to do around town and in Frankfort but if you want to go elsewhere it's not far from Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City, or even Ludington. It was definitely a nice peaceful place to come home to and we will book again for sure!
We stayed here for one night just to get away and it was great, less then 10 minutes from Frankfort, very quiet and relaxing, clean and organized. We plan to go back in the future and take our bikes as there are great trails in the area.
We highly recommend this as a weekend away. Very clean, updated and quiet. Gorgeous area and very close to the lake with really nice biking trails. Kari was there if we needed her but we didn't see her. She even added a personal touch for my husbands birthday. We would definitely go back.
My wife and I loved the Mollineaux Cottage!!! I have lived in Michigan all my life and never had heard of Frankfort until my wife and I took a scenic drive along the Northwest Coast of Michigan. The Cottage itself is not in Frankfort, but it is only about 5 minutes West of Frankfort, 45 minutes South of Traverse City, and 30 minutes North of Manistee. My wife and I went on a self guided Vineyard Tour around Grand Traverse Bay which included going on the Pierce Stocking Trail around Sleeping Bear Dunes, and we went to 8 Vineyards. We left at 9 AM, stopped for lunch in Traverse City, and got back to the Cottage at 7 PM all without rushing, 10 hours well spent! You could also not ask for a better Host than Kari was, she is very hospitable, helpful, and kind. We are definitely going to be staying at her Cottage again! The Cottage is also lovely, it is just the right size and Kari keeps it very clean.
We had such a lovely stay at the Mollineaux Cottage. Very compact with everything you need. We spend most of our time outdoors, so space was not a problem. It was the perfect location for the bike trail, which we used a lot. Kari was the perfect hostess, very helpful and enthusiastic. We would stay here again in a second, as we love Benzie County and the surrounding areas. There are many mosquitoes, but that's Michigan for you. Thanks for the wonderful weekend.
My boyfriend and I took a Memorial Day weekend trip up to the Mollineaux Cottage and had a great time. Pulling up, we were a little confused as we pulled into the back and did not recognize that part of the house. After Kari reassured we were at the right place, it was all good from there. We brought our black lab with, and he was free to room about the open property. The cottage came with everything we needed to cook, grill out, play board games and card games, watch movies and Chicago Blackhawks on cable, and roast marshmellows over a bon fire.
Aside from being right off of 115, it was a nice location with a lot to chose from. There are 2 trails and a boat launch for Crystal Lake within walking distance. Downtown Frankfurt and the Lake Michigan shore is a short 10 minute drive away. We also had some very nice runs at Arcadia Dunes and Sleeping Bear Dunes.
Overall it was a good trip with plenty to do. We spent 3 nights at the cottage but could have easily done 4.
Fifty yards from the new Crystal Lake boat launch, near the Platte and Betsie Rivers, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Frankfort/Elberta and Lake Michigan, Empire, Interlochen, Manistee and Traverse City. Surrounded by biking/hiking trails that provide access to the surrounding towns. Northern Michigan's famous Cherry Bowl Drive-in is within 6 miles and a terrific family experience!
