Our family-owned cottage sits under a huge willow tree that we played under as kids. We welcome you to enjoy the quiet, savor the night sky, explore all that surrounds this beautiful area, and then cook up your latest catch at our fully furnished cottage that sleeps up to six persons. Kid and pet friendly. Ample parking for boats, ATVs, jet skis, etc. Here you have the best of both worlds, the quiet small town country feel that allows you to kick back and relax, and yet are able to get to the action of the city in 30 minutes. A BBQ grill and charcoal is provided along with outside furniture and a fire pit...a great way to end a wonderful day.
My name is Kari, as a girl I spent my summers here with my grandparents, enjoying the beauty of Northern Michigan while I worked with my grandpa around the homestead. Almost 30 years ago my grandparents were unable to keep the property due to health reasons and sold it to another family member, although I was glad it was still in the family I had always thought of it as mine. Then in 2006 my dream came true and I came home again! During the last year I have completely renovated the cottage and am excited about sharing the love I have for this place with others.
Kari Barker purchased this cottage in 2006
My grandparents purchased this property in 1975, at that time is was in rough shape, yet they had a vision of what could be and turned their homestead into a Benzie County landmark. Before the new boat launch went in and the road was reconfigured, all anyone would have to say is 'the V property' and it was immediately recognized.
The cottage is newly remodeled and is cozy, comfortable, quiet and beautiful. Although it is located just of of M-115 it is very quiet and almost remote feeling, except that you are centrally located in Benzie county and close to so many activities(boat launch, beaches, trails, fishing, skiing, and snowmobiling). As I furnished the cottage I put a lot of thought into what families or friends would want and need in a vacation home, and I wanted it to truly be a home away from home. With that in mind, all linens and towels are provided, there is a full kitchen with all dishware, pots and pans and utensils available. Paper products such as toilet paper, paper towels, napkins and food storage have been provided as well as charcoal for the grill. Pets are welcome! I believe this would be a comfortable place to stay for couples, families, skiers, fisherman and those who love the fall colors...all are welcome.
Stayed 2 nights. Kari had fruit, fresh flowers and a plate of cookies waiting for us! The cottage is so cute and clean and has just about everything to need to cook a full meal if you choose too. Extra blankets and lots of towels for our use too!
I would love to stay here again in warmer weather or maybe in fall for colors!
Thank you Kari so much, we really enjoyed our stay!!
I regret that we were unable to stay at this property. I sent 3 emails to the property owners with no response. I finally called VRBO and then I received an email from the owner. I always have communication by phone before I rent a property. This all happened the night before the stay. Due to lack of communication and no phone number to call on the web site listing I did not feel comfortable renting this property. Renters are also hesitant to rent property without any correspondence from the property owners. I notified the property owners by email the morning before going to work with questions about the property and also told them I would let them know if we were able to rent the property. Poor communication made me feel uneasy renting this property.
Great time and felt like home thanks to Kari's hospitality! Upon arrival we were greeted to a note saying there was a gift for our daughter on the bed. There was also fresh blueberry muffins and grapes. Great place for a relaxing getaway!
My husband and I have stayed in several rentals through this website, the Mollineaux Cottage has been the best so far! The places is decorated nicely and is super clean, you can tell the owner took the time to think of everything you would need to be comfortable during your stay. We spent more time at the Cottage than we anticipated because we felt right at home. We loved the grill and the fire pit. I cannot say enough about Kari the owner, incredibly kind and hospitable. We especially appreciated bringing our dog with us, he is a huge part of the family and to bring him with us was priceless. We can't wait to return!
Kari invests lots of personal touches and seems to enjoy making you comfortable. Where else can you stay in "God's Country" with all these comforts for so reasonable a price? If you love to be active, this location is packed with trails, rivers, beaches, woods (beauty everywhere).
Fifty yards from the new Crystal Lake boat launch, near the Platte and Betsie Rivers, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Frankfort/Elberta and Lake Michigan, Empire, Interlochen, Manistee and Traverse City. Surrounded by biking/hiking trails that provide access to the surrounding towns. Northern Michigan's famous Cherry Bowl Drive-in is within 6 miles and a terrific family experience!
