Overview

About the property

3 bedroom (1 with 2 beds), 1.5 bath nestled on 5 acres with springs access.

We would like to invite you to recharge in our one of a kind 'Off the Grid' Cabin. This property is located at the end of Malloy's Landing Road in beautiful Wacissa, FL. Only 30 minutes away from FSU and FAMU Universities for the perfect weekend/ game day get away. Tallahassee is 30 minutes away for convenient shopping and banking. This 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath cabin sleeps 8 comfortable but large enough to sleep up to 10 (we recommend and fees are based on up to 8), to include a large upstairs loft and plenty of room for extra sleeping bags or blanket pallets on the floor for more family/friends. The cabin is nestled on one of the beautiful springs that feed the Wacissa river surrounded by towering 80' White Oaks, pines and hundred year old Cypress trees. From the front porch you can view wildlife such as deer, raccoons, woodpeckers, blue herons, hummingbirds, cormorants and wild turkey. Cabin is constructed of 100+ year old river logs pulled from the Wacissa river by the owner, and it's tributaries. Some of the planks used in the walls are more than 20' wide, the handrail on the stairs to the loft is made from a civil war era bridge blank, and much of the structure has actual river wood trees from the foundation through the floor to the ceiling. The property is 'Off the Grid' meaning there are no utilities coming in from the power company. We utilize solar panels and a backup diesel generator to maintain power to the cabin 24/7. Do not worry about the noise of the generator; we have it settled far enough from the cabin that it will not interfere with the quietness you may be looking for. Except for Wi-Fi (not provided), the cabin is equipped with central air, propane hot water on demand (unlimited) and most of your every day luxuries that would be found in a home in town; but without the hustle and bustle. We have TV with approximately 12 clear channel (no cable) but then again if you are renting our cabin, the last place you want to be is inside watching TV.

* Starting May 2017, we will be offering Air Boat tours. While staying at our cabin, what better way to see the beautiful Wacissa than from the front seat of a beautiful new airboat; owned and operated by Captain Bradley Cooley (property owner). We are now offering Eco tours; which includes history lesson of the river from back when the native Americans were here, photography, fishing, sight seeing or just a good ole' airboat ride along the beautiful Wacissa river and springs. We even offer Frog Gigging tours. Ask owner for details and booking information.

So our invitation extends to anyone wanting to relax, celebrate a special occasion or attend a FSU or FAMU football game. You will be 1.5 miles from the closest house and 1 mile behind a locked gate so you can have the privacy to do whatever you wish. Come on out and experience true adventure in a one of a kind cabin on one of North Florida's most pristine rivers.

**Events and parties over 8 will be an extra charge. Please contact owner for details.

*** We love pets and they are welcome but we have to cover cost of a deeper cleaning for pet stays. Additional cleaning fee of $50.00 will be added for guests with indoor pets. Any damage caused to furniture/flooring will be at owner's expense.

**** In the event of a natural disaster at no control of owner, we reserve the right to cancel any reservations due to disaster including but not limited to hurricane, tornado or fire damage to property. Should this occur, guests will be given the option to book another date or be refunded 100% of any fees paid for rental.

About Bradley and Jenny Cooley

This cabin was built by local resident, Bradley Cooley. Growing up in the area and working the watermelon fields as a young boy, Bradley has always loved the Wacissa river and envisioned a beautiful cabin sitting on this property one day. Along with friends and family who helped construct the cabin, Bradley's dream became a reality. What started out to be a family fish camp turned in to be a one-of- a kind cabin nestled on the beautiful Wacissa River. The cabin is constructed from river logs out of the river; few of which apart of the construction inside the cabin. A must see to believe! Property is owned and operated by Bradley and Jenny Cooley, and dear friends, Jon and Amanda Schee.

Bradley and Jenny Cooley purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Bradley and Jenny Cooley chose Florida

If you have an appreciation for the great outdoors, you will not find a more unique piece of property in a more private, beautiful location. If you like the hustle and bustle of the noisy city and want to be closer to the chaos, this place is probably not for you. From swimming in the cold, natural springs of the Wacissa in the North Florida summer time, airboat rides and canoeing, to roasting mash mellows in the winter time by the fire pit, our cabin has a little for everyone. You must enjoy the great outdoors and river life to appreciate this place. Oh, and not afraid of a mosquito or sand nat.

What makes this cabin unique

We fell in love with this property for its natural beauty. The wood we built the cabin with comes from the very river it sits beside. This is without a doubt one of the most peaceful and relaxing places you've been in North Florida. Sitting in the middle of the head waters and Big Blue (natural spring), a day of fun on the river awaits.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great place to get away!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely beautiful property and accommodating hosts. The river was beautiful and the cabin was cozy. A bit of a drive from Tallahassee so pack accordingly knowing you will lose an hour going into town and back for a Walmart run.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review and we are glad you enjoyed your stay. We are definately in the woods and tell all our guests this in the information we send weeks prior to check in. We have the little country stores in the area but no walmart for few miles, for sure and much more easier to have all supplies at arrival. River is just too nice to have to break away for a walmart trip. :). Thank you and hope you'll come see us again.

Awesome Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed such a wonderful week in this beautiful cabin! The inside is beautifully crafted, rustic, and we felt instantly comfortable when we walked through the door - and it is completely & thoughtfully furnished with everything we needed to make our stay stress-free; all we had to pack was clothing, toiletries, & food! The yard is huge, and our grandson thoroughly enjoyed playing outdoors. The catwalk leads to the dock, where there's a screened-in area with bench seating & ceiling fans, but we preferred sitting on the dock - the scenery is gorgeous! Our grandchildren had a ball playing in the water & trapping crawfish, and we spent two awesome days paddling canoes on the Wacissa River - my favorite activity of the entire trip! We saw lots of wildlife - herons, loons, turtles, a variety of fish, and alligators! There were a couple of days with the usual afternoon thundershowers, and we relaxed listening to the rain fall on the tin roof while we looked out at the beautiful views from the living area. The owners, Bradley & Jenny, and their partner Jon, addressed every question and concern immediately and efficiently, and they offered abundant advice which helped to make our time even more enjoyable. We brought bottled drinking water, as well as lots of bug spray due to the proximity to the marshy areas & the river. We actually enjoyed being "off the grid" - away from Emails & tech devices! ( We DID have cell service, though). There were other activities we had planned - going to the beach, picnicking at St. Mark's & seeing the lighthouse - but we were having so much fun, we never left the property! It was such a relaxing, fun time with family, and we can't wait to go back - hubby wants to go during hunting season next time!

A Little Slice of Heaven on the River

  • 5 of 5

There is just not enough positive adjectives available to describe this property. Charming, warm, inviting, relaxing, accommodating...... What a gem to find just 30 minutes outside of Tallahassee on one of the most scenic spring fed rivers in the area, the Wacissa! We could easily dip our toes, noses and kayaks into the water and enjoy hours of natural Florida. The rooms and beds are large, so very comfortable and quiet!

You are 'Off the grid' but we still had cell service and TV as needed although found the peace and quiet of nature a true siren call to get us to 'unplug' and just enjoy.

Endless hot water with the tankless water heater was a real treat with 4 adults.

We will be back again and again to enjoy the amenities, peaceful quiet and welcoming spirit of this property.

Do yourself a favor and book this place on the Wacissa River.

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week staying at the cabin. We loved being "off the grid", enjoying the grounds, and exploring the Wacissa River by canoe off the dock. Jenny and Bradley were superb hosts and we found everything to be as advertised. The cabin is very comfortable with a great room and several bedrooms. The paneling and whole timbers used in the construction of the cabin give it a warm, rustic feel. We rented a canoe, made fires in the fire pit, cooked ribeyes out under the stars, and even had an Easter Egg hunt during our stay. We traveled to Wakulla Springs, saw St. Mark's lighthouse, and went to the Museum of Florida History in Tallahassee where there are several life-sized bronze statues of Seminoles that Bradley and his father created. Closer to the cabin, we went on walks, hung out on the beach near the boat launch, swung on the rope swing, went swimming at Big Blue spring, and saw lots of wildlife. Our six-year-old son was in heaven. We look forward to our next trip to the Wacissa River and the cabin.

Beautiful Cabin for a peaceful escape

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved this cabin and the very large piece of land it sits on. We stopped at the Walkers Finamart to pick up the Ribeye steaks the owners recommended. There was a line in the small store for those ribeyes - so it was pretty obvious they were a local favorite and the older gentleman cutting them up was awesome. The steaks were amazing and perfect after a long day of outdoor adventuring. We were able to put our kayaks in the river right there on the property and thoroughly enjoyed every minute we were there. It was hard to leave and we hope to return when we can. Thank you very much for sharing your little slice of heaven - it was everything we were hoping for and more. <3
