Monticello Cabin Rental Photos and Description

3 bedroom (1 with 2 beds), 1.5 bath nestled on 5 acres with springs access

We would like to invite you to recharge in our one of a kind 'Off the Grid' Cabin. This property is located at the end of Malloy's Landing Road in beautiful Wacissa, FL. Only 30 minutes away from FSU and FAMU Universities for the perfect weekend/ game day get away. Tallahassee is 30 minutes away for convenient shopping and banking. This 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath cabin sleeps 8 comfortable but large enough to sleep up to 10 (we recommend and fees are based on up to 8), to include a large upstairs loft and plenty of room for extra sleeping bags or blanket pallets on the floor for more family/friends. The cabin is nestled on one of the beautiful springs that feed the Wacissa river surrounded by towering 80' White Oaks, pines and hundred year old Cypress trees. From the front porch you can view wildlife such as deer, raccoons, woodpeckers, blue herons, hummingbirds, cormorants and wild turkey. The cabin is constructed of 100+ year old river logs pulled from the Wacissa river by the owner, and it's tributaries. Some of the planks used in the walls are more than 20' wide, the handrail on the stairs to the loft is made from a civil war era bridge blank, and much of the structure has actual river wood trees from the foundation through the floor to the ceiling. The property is 'Off the Grid' meaning there are no utilities coming in from the power company. We utilize solar panels and a backup diesel generator to maintain power to the cabin 24/7. Do not worry about the noise of the generator; we have it settled far enough from the cabin that it will not interfere with the quietness you may be looking for. Except for Wi-Fi (not provided), the cabin is equipped with central air, propane hot water on demand (unlimited) and most of your every day luxuries that would be found in a home in town; but without the hustle and bustle. We have TV with approximately 12 clear channel (no cable) but then again if you are renting this cabin, the last place you want to be is inside watching TV.

So our invitation extends to anyone wanting to relax, celebrate a special occasion or attend a FSU or FAMU football game. You will be 1.5 miles from the closest house and 1 mile behind a locked gate so you can have the privacy to do whatever you wish. Come on out and experience true adventure in a one of a kind cabin.

** Events and parties over 8 will be an extra charge. Please contact owner for details.

About Bradley and Jenny Cooley

This cabin was built by local resident, Bradley Cooley. Growing up in the area, Bradley has always loved the Wacissa river and envisioned a beautiful cabin sitting on this property one day. Bradley, along with friends and family who helped construct the cabin made it a reality. What started out to be a family fish camp turned in to be a one-of- a kind cabin nestled on the beautiful Wacissa River. The cabin is constructed from river logs out of the river. Property is owned and operated by Bradley and Jenny Cooley, and dear friends, Jon and Amanda Schee.

Bradley and Jenny Cooley purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Bradley and Jenny Cooley chose Florida

If you have an appreciation for the great outdoors, you will not find a more unique piece of property in a more private, beautiful location. If you like the hustle and bustle of the noisy city and want to be closer to the chaos, this place is probably not for you. From swimming in the cold, natural springs of the Wacissa in the North Florida summer time, to roasting mash mellows in the winter time by the fire pit, our cabin has a little for everyone. You must enjoy the great outdoors and river life to appreciate this place.

What makes this cabin unique

We fell in love with this property for its natural beauty. The wood we built the cabin with comes from the very river it sits beside. This is without a doubt one of the most peaceful and relaxing places you've been in North Florida. Sitting in the middle of the head waters and Big Blue (natural spring), a day of fun on the river awaits.

Serenity at it's best!

  • 5 of 5

I enjoyed this house so much, I returned with my family again!

It is one of the most peaceful rentals I have ever been in. There isn't a house anywhere nearby, so you are truly alone! I have recommended it to many other parents who have kids at FSU because it is only about a 25 min drive away. With the Wacissa River in the backyard and the canoes on hand, we spent our days at one of the many springs close-by.

I have no doubt , we will be returning. Hopefully soon!

And FYI, it's listed as a 2 bed-1 bath, but its really a 3bed-1 1/2 bath with a queen in the loft. So it fit our family of 6 perfectly!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay again. We were worried with us being on cruise and leaving right after storm how it would affect cabin and property but assume all went ok. We are always working to improve our little slice of heaven and glad you see the beautiful in it as we do. And thank you for spreading the word to the other FSU families. Safe travels home. Clean Cabin with great amenities and beautiful location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this beautiful cabin over the weekend - it was perfect to celebrate my husband's 30th birthday! The house was gorgeous, clean, and had everything we needed. The extra fridge was a lifesaver. The location was perfect, as well; it was so nice to be able to put in kayaks and canoes right from the house. The water was gorgeous and clear and we had just as much fun hanging out on the dock as we did paddling around exploring springs. The owners were incredibly responsive and helped us with everything we needed. Our stay here was incredible and we now have some great memories from a wonderful weekend with friends! Thank you!

Great family getaway!

  • 4 of 5

Definitely an off the grid experience. Our kids had a wonderful time utilizing the space outside, from riding their bikes on the gravel roads, running around in the massive yard and canoeing down the river and fishing. We used the fire pit at night too. We did not have any cell service, had to walk down the road to get any bars :) Our one suggestion is to have a paper on fridge that gives more detailed instructions such as heating and any other upkeep of the house. Also make sure you do bring your own drinking water. The Coopers responded fast to any concerns. We will definitely come back!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the suggestions on the paper on the frig. We try and put all that in the emails sent before check in but you are correct in that we need to post in a better place. :). I totally agree on the water too. Being well/pumped from river water, it is safe but not the best tasting for sure. Thank you again and hope you come back soon.

A perfect birthday weekend

  • 5 of 5

This weekend was a better than we could have hoped. The pictures of the cabin do not do it justice and the location is away from everything yet close enough to town to be convenient. Canoes available for rental on site were a welcome addition that we took advantage of. I think the best part was sitting by the fire pit late at night looking up at stars you could never see in the city. The Cooley's were wonderful hosts and we intend to come back again next year. This is the place to come for a relaxing vacation.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the wonderful review. We take a lot of pride in making our guests feel comfortable. The property is a very nice place to get out of the city and do a lot of star gazing that's for sure. Look forward to you coming back next year! The Cooley's.

FSU Thanksgiving Get-Together

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time on our visit with our son who attends FSU during Thanksgiving week at the 'Off the Grid' Cabin. The description of the cabin is very accurate and finding the cabin, even in the dark, was easy. The owners answered all questions promptly and gave us a courtesy call to see if we had made it alright. The cabin is not too far off the beaten path but is far enough to feel like your deep in the woods. The cabin was very clean and the pictures do not do it justice. After the first night we adjusted to the generator, it really wasn't too bad. We didn't canoe this trip, but if we stay here again I know we will. We did ride our bikes in the area and swam in the river. I would suggest to bring some drinking water if you are not use to water with a sulfur odor. We did go to the recommended local market/convenience store and got some ribeyes, they were great. The grill needed a little cleaning. Overall, the cabin was clean, well furnished and we really enjoyed our stay and hope to stay there again on our next trip.
