Far from the madding crowd's ignoble strife.
This seven year old house is located on the St. George Tidal River and is surrounded on three sides by water. Just a short drive to Port Clyde, Camden and Rockland. There is a large deck, excellent for outdoor entertaining. The house has lots of windows with water views. The 3.8 acre property provides lots of privacy and scenic beauty with 1600 feet of shore frontage to explore.
I'm an avid traveler but always enjoy returning home to Tenants Harbor and my home on the peninsula. In 2006-07 I built the house with the help of local friends and contractors. The idea was to create a space that was welcoming in all seasons, with views from as many spaces as possible, and a layout that made visits from friends easy and comfortable.
Mike Metivier purchased this house in 2007
I spent summers in Tenants Harbor (from upstate NY) and we enjoyed it so much that now most of my immediate family has settled in the area. The location of the property is unique in that it is surrounded by water on three sides. With the exception of the small guestroom, all windows have a water view. It's a special place: very relaxing but also great for entertaining.
Beautiful and comfortable home with peaceful, scenic views - perfect for a relaxing birthday weekend! Seller was also very accommodating to a change in our arrival plans. Would love to stay here again someday!
Four of us (two couples) rented this house for a week in mid October. It was great! It is located on a small peninsula on an inlet from the sea with water on three sides. In summer, it would be great to kayak (two tandems with the house) on the protected bay, but we were there for the leaves. The house is well located to area villages and sights (6 miles south of Thomaston; 10 miles south of Rockland; 15 miles south of Camden; 12 miles west of Owls Point lighthouse; 3 miles north of Tenants Harbor; 10 miles north of Port Clyde and Marshall Point lighthouse). There is a cafe in each of Thomaston, Tenants Harbor and Port Clyde and a number of great restaurants in Rockland and Camden. There is a hiking trail 2 miles to the north, several 3 - 6 mile loops in Thomaston and access in Thomaston to a 50 mile trail that goes along the coast.
The house is well laid out with a large living area, nice den and adequate kitchen and eating area. The high ceilings and really large windows let in a lot of light that provide nice atmosphere. The three upstairs bedrooms (master suite on rear; two bedrooms on front with shared hall bath) are well laid out with two having water views. Mike, owner, met us and contacted us several times during our stay to make certain all was well. Overall, great house and one we highly recommend for couples, friends or family.
Beautifully constructed house on a point of land facing an inlet from the St George River (saltwater). Neighbors are close by, but you can't see them and seldom hear them. You get the feeling of being in an isolated location - yet you can be in downtown Rockland in 20 minutes. Exceptionally furnished and well equipped. One of the best places we have rented in over 20 years of renting on the Maine coast.
My family and I just spent one wonderful week at this property. The house is outfitted with everything one would ever need to have the perfect vacation! Such a lovely home with a 3 sided view of the water and easy access to it. Great for making somores on the rocks or kayaking (which comes with the rental) or steaming lobsters. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and upon returning to Tenant's Harbor, the most lovely place in Maine, would look no further and rent the same property again!
Pick up some lobsters and enjoy them on the deck while enjoying the water view. Catch the boat to Monhegan Island from the end of the peninsula and look for puffins. Go clamming in the tidal flats at low tide or go for a paddle (3 kayaks included with the house) at high tide, without leaving the property. Go blueberry or blackberry picking. Take a nap in the hammock. Enjoy a sunset sail out of Camden or live music in Rockland. This is Andrew Wyeth country...experience the subjects of his work all around you and then see his work at the Farnsworth Museum. Go antiquing down country roads. Shop for fresh produce at a local farmers market. Go for a scenic bike ride. Fish for squid off the pier in Port Clyde. Explore a nature trail and seek out the fairie houses unique to the area. Hike Mt. Battie and then cool off with a swim in Megunticook Lake. See an independent film at the Theater in Rockland. Play golf. The list is long...
