Its a rustic log cabin, totally handcrafted. Just below is the Chowan River and at the mouth of the Albermarle Sound. It is full of White Perch and you can go crabbing. Fire pit outside for roasting marshmellows.
My name is Doug Liverman. I live in Ahoskie NC. Ahoskie is about 25 minutes away from the cabin. The cabin was built basically to have more room when we (Kim and I ) would have all the family down for holiday weekends. It started out as just a square box shape and turned into what it is today. It is about 800 square feet sitting on a hillside just off the Chowan River in Bertie County N.C. It is pattern after a one hundred year old cabin that Kim, my girlfriend, found in a Sportsman magazine at a dentist office. Kim got me phone numbers and I called until I found the people who own the original one which is over a hunderd years old and much more rustic. We added a kitchen and a few other features to ours to make it what it is. A nice little cozy cabin on a hillside where it fits perfect over looking a pond in a quiet little area on the river. You can walk from the cabin to the pier on the river and never touch the ground. It is great for exercise if you are looking for that. As for myself I own a small business in Ahoskie and Kim is a nurse at the local hospital. There is a larger log home on the property which I try to spend as much time in as I possibly can. If you come and visit you will understand why.
Douglas Liverman and Kimberly Cox purchased this cabin in 2011
Mainly for the view. When I was sixteen my buddy and I would go down to this place and hang out, at that time it belonged to his grandparents. I would watch him and a friend of ours jump off a cliff that used to be in front of the main house. The crazy things we will do when we are young . I never knew that someday I would actually have a house on the same lot. The view is beautiful and breathtaking especially on a moon lite night or an early morning sunrise.
The view and location is great and it is very quaint and peaceful. If you are looking for a quiet week or weekend it's worth the trip. You can see deer running around, you can feed the ducks in the nearby pond, watch the rabbits run by, or maybe if you are lucky you may see a bald eagle fly. There are nice restaurants in the area that you can visit by land or river. Just one problem if you go by river you will need a boat, so if you have one you might want to bring it unless you luck up and Kim and I are around and hungry. There is some shopping a few miles away, a movie theater, and some historical viewing if you like things like that. It is small town shopping no W-marts. The nearest one is about 25 minutes away. The cabin does have a deck on the back with a fire pit, gas grill, and a screened in porch. There is a front porch with old timer rockers and a small table for early morning coffee. It has a microwave, also a coffee maker for the coffee lovers. The bathroom has a walk in shower but no tub, in the kitchen there is an oven, stove, and fridge. There is an outside hot tub at the big house that might be available.Jets skies and fishing boats are not available but there will be a paddle boat, small john boat with trolling motor for someone who may want to fish. Canoe or kayak and fishing reels will be available for daily rental. If there is a special occasion please let us know we will be more than willing to help. Check in time is at 3:00 PM, check out is at 11:00 AM.
This place is absolutely beautiful! We stayed here with our 3 teenage children. They enjoyed fishing, hanging out on the dock, canoeing and swimming. We spent a day in the Outer Banks which was about an hour and a half drive. One word of advice is not to go over the posted speed limit at all! The police just sit waiting to pull you over on the drive over to the beach.
Kim and Doug were so nice! They made sure that we had all that we needed and truly made us feel at home. They have an amazing gift of hospitality.
We had such a great time! The cabin is gorgeous-- the pictures just don't do it justice. Doug and Kim are great-- you guys had the cabin equipped with everything we needed! We will definitely be staying here again.
This little cabin so well suited my 2 friends and I. It is appointed so well with very tasteful decor including copper bathroom and kitchen sinks and granite kitchen countertop. Everything you need to stay there and prepare your own meals is provided including coffee and tea but beware, don't bring a lot of items to store in the frig as the one there is a small dorm-room type but it was adequate for us as we spent a lot of the day time in nearby Edenton - a beautiful little town.
A short walk up the hill behind the cabin is a great view of the water and the owner invited us to walk out on the pier which we did with a glass of wine -with glasses supplied by the owner!.
There are nice houses within view so you won't be alone in "the middle of nowhere" in case you are concerned about your safety..
Had a girls getaway with two friends and my five year old daughter. This cabin is by far the most adorable place I have ever stayed. We all thought the same. The details of this cabin are simply amazing. And Doug - best customer service of any vrbo I have used. And I have used a lot. Amazing hospitality. Will def return. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway. This is the place.
We decided to take this lovely cabin about 80 minutes from Manteo where my Brother performs in the lost colony. The cabin was fantastic, it was decorated so nice, Doug was very friendly and they had plenty of towels and linens to last a week. We stayed 3 nights, the walk to the river was amazing and the scenery was breathtaking. They had boats, kayak, canoes to rent. We rented a Kayak and it was fun. Only $25.00 for the day. There is 2 downsizes, 1 you are in the middle
Of no where and the town of edenton has nothing there civilization is in Manteo near the islands great for a day trip. Secondly, the fridge was a mini fridge, full Kitchen but with a mini fridge. So if you were to stay a week, I wouldn't know how to keep the food at temp. So this is a perfect weekend getaway.
Autumn is our favorite time of the year and The Little Cabin on the Hillside provided a cozy experience for the two of us! This adorable cabin had everything we needed plus more! The owners were more than gracious and invited us to share the beautiful view of the river from their property up the hill. There was a full "Blood Moon" while we were there. It was stunning to see it shine on the water! The cabin is located near the Historic Town of Edenton. Recommend a visit there especially to tour the newly restored lighthouse and eat lunch at the 309 Bistro. The Edenton Coffee House has wonderful coffees and pastries too.
