|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
This property is located in the banana belt of Gualala, Ca. where the weather is warm and sunny even if much of the coast is covered in fog. As you drive down the private driveway, this large home sits majestically in a serene redwood meadow with a beautiful deck, and garden.
The house has been newly renovated and is stunning. The living room has vaulted ceilings, with stairs that lead to a large sleeping loft considered to be 2 of the bedrooms , which contains 4 queen beds, separated by a partial wall. The dining room can accommodate large groups for memorable meals with your family and friends. The kitchen is fully equipped, w/ beautiful granite counter tops. In addition to the spacious loft, there is a private bedroom, with a large newly remodeled on suite bathroom. The second bathroom has a separate water closet, from the shower and two basin areas. In the winter, the wood burning stove in the living room will keep you warm and cozy.
The house is very nice and probably very enjoyable in the warm weather, but not comfortable in the cold weather. We arrived in the evening, mid 30 degrees, to learn the only heat source was the wood burning stove (and no instructions on how to use it and a mashed up box of matches). There was no wood in the house so we had to dig around in the incredibly disorderly wood shed (so much so that we tripped more than once trying to climb over the mess of wood to collect enough to start a fire) where there was plenty of kindling and large wood, but minimal small or mid sized to start a fire. No axe to cut any, not that we should have had to given how much we were paying per night. We were never able to get the house over 53 degrees with a roaring fire for hours. It was so cold we had to wear all of the clothes we brought, including our long down jackets and you could see our breath as we spoke. We had to sleep in our jackets and multiple layers of clothing. It was too cold to shower and we never used the master bathroom to keep the little bit of warmth we had in the main part of the house. Large windows everywhere, which are lovely, but not a single window covering to help keep in the warm air. There were no space heaters in the house. My husband and I grew up on the east coast so we are not overly sensitive to cold, but do expect the inside temperature of a vacation rental property to get over 60 degrees. There were plenty of little annoyances, but not worth mentioning as the lack of heat was more than enough to ruin our time away. We spent as little time out of the house as possible during of 2 night stay. I will add that despite what was indicated in the contract we promptly signed and sent with our payment we never received any intructions about the place in advance. I had to get in touch with the owners to confirm they received our payment/contract and request instructions on the place (like how to get in to it). I received a one line response. At a minimum it would have been nice to have been given some info about the place, like there was no wifi or cell service and the phone number of the house. When I wrote the owners after our stay to tell them about the lack of heat and our experience they didn't even have the decency to respond.
Very pleasantly surprised at just how nice this home was and just how large the property was. Just like being at home but in a nice fancy large home. 3 year old grandson loved exploring on the property. 5 bed plenty of room for large families or combined guests. Everything you need for the comforts of home. Very reasonably priced and the owner is very easy to work with and works with any special accommodations you may need. We were there for my sons wedding and it was only 1 mile way. Great location
Was quite happy with our experience. The house was nice-loved the kitchen and it's layout. The grounds were done nicely and loved the use of natural elements to make up planter boxes, paths and seating areas. Some things were a challenge-like trying to light a fire in the wood burning stove to heat the place-it had rained and the wood was wet. Once started it did warm the place up nicely. The water heater was tricky as well-not sure if it is on a timer or what, but we had to fire it up for hot water and then it seemed to stop on it's own after a day or two. It was quiet and very nice to just hang out at the house and enjoy the outdoors. There were six people and three dogs in our group. We all enjoyed ourselves-especially the dogs...they had a great time romping around the property. A few people in our group had wifi/internet withdrawls and only the people who had Verizon were able to have cell service. All in all it was a wonderful weekend-loved the area, loved the acreage-the house was a good size for all of us. Will definitely look into staying here again.
Wonderful experience staying in this house. Clean, comfortable, nicely decorated, loved the remodeled kitchen and large dinning room.
Large windows frame the view of trees and the beautiful woodlands garden surrounding the house. While the setting is private, it is not remote, just minutes from town and the beach. I would definitely recommend this house to friends and family.
We stayed here for the first time on our family vacation and really enjoyed it! Nice house on a great property. Master bedroom with king and loft with 4 doubles. We really liked the location up in the woods (very quiet) but a short drive to the beach. Big yard to let the kids run around and a nice trail. Surf grocery is in town to buy great ingredients for meals and the oven works just fine (we made great homemade pizza). "One star" reviewers should chill out (in general) and maybe not insult someones family home that might not be perfect, but is much more comfortable for us than some fancy overpriced rental unit with no character.
I just e-mailed the owner about trying to rent this house for the third time in the last year and a half. My family loves it. The house has everything my family needs for a good trip, and the kids love to explore the meadow, garden, and forrest. Plus there is plenty of room if you want to add in some grandparents or cousins. Only the pickiest person could find something bad to say about this place. Plus it is extremely reasonably priced. My kids bring it up all the time and ask when we are going to go back.
