Beautiful south western home, ideal for a couples romantic getaway. Fully-equipped with satalite tv/dvd, wood burning stove, antique bath tub, full kitchen & king-size bed. The views are absolutely spectacular. Walk to world-class Spa and bar/restaurant. Lake and creek fishing within walking distance. Fabulous hiking with trail head at your doorstep. The Fall in June Lake is spectacular, with the Colors peaking this year in early October.
I'm a Brit who moved to the US in 1979 and fell in love with the Eastern Sierra and particularly June Lake. My wife and I built the fully-detached Guest House, completing it in 2005. We then started work on the main house, which sits higher up the hill, and that is now home.
Ian Fettes purchased this cabin in 2005
When we first bought the lot, we did so because of the view and location. The view from this property is spectacular by any definition. A fabulous panaramic mountain view, complete with waterfalls, puts you right in the heart of the High Sierra's.
The Guest House nestles right into the granite mountainside, surrounded by Juniper and Jeffrey Pines.
It's very cosy, with a log stove, deck with barbeque, fantastic views and beautiful logwork, produced by one of the top custom log builders. At night, all you'll hear is the creek below - or the thunder of Horsetail Falls in the Spring.
I think we're echoing the previous reviews, suffice to say, for location, comfort, charm, privacy and a STUNNING setting, this cabin just can't be beat. It's a wonderful combination of adobe and log design. Modern, yet rustic. Small yet spacious. There's vintage appliances like the fridge and stove, not to mention the lovely clawfoot tub...yet there's modern upgrades like heated terracotta floors and the luxe feel of that king sized bed is true creature comfort.
Speaking of creature comforts, our collie also enjoyed the experience to the fullest. Thank you for welcoming our canine family member!
The stunning views of Carson Peak, not to mention the blanket of stars at night, are with you every morning and evening. Don't want to cook? A quick walk brings you to the Double Eagle Resort.
This is the beauty of Yosemite without the throngs. Ian is a wonderful resource for hiking and enjoying the area to the fullest. The perfect host as he is there if you need him but respectful of your privacy if you're retreating.
Five star experience all around. (and yes, it's even better than the photos!)
This cabin was everything we were looking for and more. The cabin is small, but it makes such GREAT use of the space it doesn't feel like it. The deck and the views of Carson Peak were stunning! It was quiet, cozy, and the perfect getaway from the hectic day to day life--which was exactly what we wanted and needed. Ian--the owner--met us at the cabin and made sure the heat was working. He lit the pot belly stove for us and it gave off lots of heat. He checked on us during our first night to make sure we were comfortable and that the heat was enough--it was! :-) He was very nice and the personal attention was a nice touch. The kitchen had everything you would need.. We cooked some fabulous meals. I would recommend that you get your groceries from either Mammoth Village or even Bishop as the market in June Lake proper is on the expensive side. Two days was not enough! We will be back! Thank you Ian! :-)
My husband and I just stayed here for the past week over Christmas. Boy did this place meet, EXCEED our expectations :)
The pics are very pretty but do not do justice on how amazing this little cabin is. You are nestled right into the side of a mountain and the views are absolutely amazing. The sound of water and the smells of the crisp snow and wood are just breathtaking! I really fell in love with this place the second I walked in.
The cabin itself was very stocked with really everything you need. I brought a few of my own items such as a crock pot and zip lock bags as suggested in previous posts, but there was everything else you would need to cook with. Also bedding towels........
There was a previous post regarding the freezer door. Yes, it's open when you open the fridge but closes once the door of the fridge is closed. We had items in the freezer and they stayed frozen with no problem at all. It worked perfect for what we needed it for :) The cabin also has a very nice mud room right as you walk in. This was great for keeping wet boots and all our snow gear in while keeping the cabin nice and clean.
My husband and I went out there with some ideas of some things we might like to go do but found that this cabin was just so cozy we really enjoyed just staying in and relaxing! There is a great selection of music! The cabin has wonderful heated floors so it really does stay nice and warm. Of course we used the wood burning stove because it was just part of having the warm, romantic, cozy cabin feeling.
We did walk to the Double Eagle for dinner one night and took advantage of their amazing spa! Both great experiences. There are one or two steep roads to get to the cabin up and down. I have bad knees and still had no problem at all walking up and down. You are close to the ski loge, Silver Lake and June. We took a walk around both! So beautiful.
Ian is such a wonderful, friendly person! He is just a phone call away if there is anything you need! He was so nice and met us at the lodge to show us where the cabin was. I highly recommend doing this. It can be a little tricky finding the cabin on your first trip up :) The cabin is near the top and on almost on a private road so there wasn't much traffic going through. It's a really a safe area! We really enjoyed meeting him so very friendly! We also appreciate the bottle of wine left for us at arrival. I am already looking for the dates of when I can return! Thanks Ian again for everything
My husband and I spent 3 nights here and probably would have a longer, more in-depth review; however, we were gone during the days and returned back in time for dinner and to sleep. The cabin itself is pretty amazing! Perfect for the two of us! Well stocked for the most part, but be sure to bring your own "extras" like alumium foil, storage bags, little stuff like that. Has all appliances (including a vintage ice box) but the little "freezer" door doesn't close so some of our liquids in the other sections froze. Kitchen is beautiful!! Heated floors are amazing. Ian met us when we arrived and warmly welcomed us (with a nice bottle of wine), but since we were gone during the days we didn't see him again. I would totally recommend this unique cabin, especially to couples. Views alone are worth it!
My wife, son and I were looking for a rustic style cabin to spend our week long vacation in June Lake. This beautiful little niche with it's heavy timber construction met our every expectation! It's owner, Ian, was friendly and more than accommodating. We'll be back! Highly recommended for couples or small families (four or less).
My husband and I spent four nights with our pup and we loved everything about the cabin and surrounding areas. Great hiking, breathtaking views. It's one of those places where you walk in and immediately think, "Okay, I'm pretty sure you're going to have to physically remove me when our check-out time comes." Happy to report I left with only minor hemming and hawing, taking solace in knowing we'll be back. Thanks Ian for a memorable, stress-free, relaxing vacation!
