About Barry Donovan

The Kickapoo Valley has a special place in our hearts as we grew up here and came back to raise our family in this beautiful area. We have three grown boys who love to visit and enjoy the Kickapoo Valley and all it has to offer. We love to share this unique property with family and friends and welcome you to join us too.

Barry Donovan purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Barry Donovan chose Wisconsin

We purchased this piece of land several years ago from friends and neighbors, and built the cabin bit by bit over the years with the help of many friends, family, and local craftsmen. We enjoy it's beauty and want to share it with you!

What makes this cabin unique

This setting is like no other. We have a top quality trout stream steps from the front door. Abundant wildlife in every season. The views are gorgeous all around. There is nothing more relaxing than sitting on the porch, watching the wildlife, hearing the sounds of Bear Creek trickling by, enjoying a fire in the fire pit after dark, and just relaxing.

Long-Awaited Childhood Friends Retreat

  • 5 of 5

I had the pleasure of meeting 3 great friends at this cabin where we planned to relax and reminisce for a couple of days. Located in the gorgeous southwest part of the state with its lush green, rolling farm fields and classic barns and silos, even the drive to the property was pleasant. Barry met us upon arrival and was very friendly and helpful. I thought the cabin was even prettier than the pictures depicted and the property was absolutely stunning! The cabin was super clean and nicely decorated in the rustic theme. The sleeping accommodations were awesome, lots of roomy rooms and comfortable beds to choose from. Whether we were relaxing on the patio chairs listening to the creek flow over the rocks, chilling around a fire in the fire pit under the stars or taking long walks around the grounds, we knew we were in the perfect spot for our friend getaway. I would recommend this property to anyone!

Friend reunion

  • 5 of 5

This property far exceeded my expectations. Clean, comfy, and cozy. Also roomy as far as sleeping arrangements go. Necessities were stocked and easy to find. Barry was so friendly and helpful in letting us know where we could go to find things like dining or grocery. We visited a winery a few miles out of town that was fantastic! It was the perfect location for our get together since we just wanted down time to sit and relax. And the sound of the creek flowing was so soothing. Great spot to go fishing too. We all agreed we would go back again if the opportunity presents itself. Thanks for helping us make a great memory.

This was our 4th Vrbo rental and by far was the best!

  • 5 of 5

Barry is welcoming and helpful. The view is spectacular. The cabin is clean and comfortable. Having a creek so close to the cabin allowed my husband to fish early morning and late evening. The kitchen was fully stocked. We are not used to finding coffee, coffee filters, paper towels, baggies, paper plates... Thank you for sharing this piece of heaven. Hope to return often.

Never Disappointed!

This is our third year staying at the Bear Creek Retreat, and once again we were thrilled with our stay. Barry is very nice, and was there to greet us. The upgrades to the cabin were great. Will be back again, no doubt!

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful time at this property. Barry was fabulous and took great care of us. My boys were able to fish all day, the dog played and my husband and I walked along the stream. Speaking of fishing the boys caught some HUGE trout. At night we had a fire and enjoyed the howling coyotes and the deer on the opposite hill. We will definitely be coming back. Thanks Barry for a great experience!

Heaven on Earth, Get Away From It All, Catch Trout!!!!

  • 5 of 5

My Dad (mid 70s and doesn't move great) and I were looking for a good place to getaway and have some fun and Trout Fish! I will say that I am not a great fly fisherman. But, this stream is not only gorgeous and it had the BEST Trout Fishing. Brookies and big browns and yes I caught fish like I knew what I was doing!! I did go to the Driftless fly fishing store and asked what I should be throwing, that helped. Unfortunately, my dad caught more than I did, so I will hear about that for a while. Cabin is fantastic and face the best scenery. Owners were fabulous and responsive! Can't wait to go back!!! Also Viroqua is a cool town, 15 minutes away....
