As a local get away for our family vacation (some couldn't take off work) this place is unbelievable! The pond's water is crystal clear and the beach even has a few seashells for the kids to find! The whole family had a great time using the provided canoe and kayak. The handicap bathroom on the main floor was great for my mother. The only issue she had was the bed was too high off the ground for her to climb in. We made her a step though and then it was all good. Tom was great, he checked on us and made sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend staying here for a quick get-away!
My family of 6 adults had the pleasure of staying here for 3 days and nights. Very clean home, perfectly situated on a private pond, excellent for swimming, relaxing and getting to spend some quality time. The house was clean, quiet, comfortable, and secluded. We had a hard time remembering we were only 1 mile from the hustle and bustle of Carbondale. Tom is a gracious host. He met us at the property and then allowed us to have our privacy and freedom. There is plenty to do here but our favorite thing was hanging out together on the giant deck and watching the sunset. Sand beach is a nice touch. I would recommend this property to anyone wanting to get away for some quiet time.
Our family really enjoyed staying at the Cabin on the Pond. The accommodations were terrific. We wanted a place where all 10 of our family could stay together. The grandchildren loved the pin ball machines and the pool table. We had a great time in the evening cooking and visiting on the deck. Having multiple washing machines and dryers was a bonus. Everything worked. We would stay there again.
The weather was wonderful with just a little rain the last day. Cabin was roomy and accomodated our large group of girls. The beach and pond was great and enjoyed by everyone from toddlers to adults. The large expansive deck was our gathering place during the day. We enjoyed the wildlife, including a pair of Canadian Geese and their ducklings that visited each morning during our coffee time before breakfast. Tom was accomodating and quickly responded when we called. Tom also gave us a tour of the other cabins on the property which are close enough if you have a larger group. Yet, the other properties are hidden from each other with trees and hillsides. So it appears your secluded and alone... but really you aren't! I think we were there early in the season, as there were several things that needed attention. But overall, the price was very reasonable for the accomodations for the size of our group of 12 adults plus 3 toddlers.
We did spend a couple of days on short outings which included hiking the trails of Giant City and visiting a few wineries.
A friend and I spent 2 nights at Tom's cabin. I love this place! I told him we were birders, so he spread birdseed on the tables on the deck. The first thing we saw when we walked in were birds flitting back and forth outside the window! The views from the living room/kitchen and the master are beautiful! There's a widescreen tv in the family room and in all the bedrooms. Sheets and towels were clean, there's a huge whirlpool tub and shower with plenty of hot water. We had a little trouble figuring out which remote to use for the dvd player, so he stopped by to show us and brought a couple dvd's for us. I found Tom to be thoughtful and helpful, not at all a 'peeper'. I would highly recommend this place, it's cozy and rustic; I felt completely at home and wished we had a few more days. My favorite thing was just drinking coffee and watching the birds in the morning.
We had a great weekend at Tom's cabin. We stayed Friday-Sunday. There was 11 of us, all adults in 30s, and we had plenty of room. We brought food and cooked meals at the cabin, the kitchen had all the supplies we needed. Tom was a great host and brought us plenty of firewood for our bonfire on the beach! When we arrived, he showed us around the place and explained how a few things worked. He really stayed out of our hair, but was there if we needed him. Sheets, towels, etc. were all clean and smelled good. We had a party bus pick us up to go to the wineries on Saturday, so much fun!! The cabin is close to many of them. The best part of the cabin is the location- not too far from anything but so many beautiful trees that you feel like you're in the middle of a National Park! We got great pictures outside. I would definitely recommend going in October; the fall season was just gorgeous there!
