Charming, clean, homey Cape Cod cottage near downtown, on a quiet, shady street. Stroll to downtown Falmouth to have dinner or get ice cream; bike to the beach, or bike to Woods Hole or the Sippewissett Marsh on the Shining Sea Bike Path, which is a 5 minute walk away. 1.5 miles to the beach. Family-oriented, with a play structure and swingset in the level, shady yard; spacious outdoor area with tables; vegetable garden; and playroom with toys in the basement. Two spacious, sunny bedrooms and a bath upstairs, and another bedroom and bath downstairs, all with wide plank pine floors. Sleeps up to 8, if using the futon in the basement playroom. WiFi, cable, linens, towels, and beach towels, and use of canoe included. (NOTE: The house does not have air conditioning, but shady trees and fans keep the house comfortable).
We lived in this house for ten years before we moved to the Boston area. My kids and I still spend a lot of time at this house, and we love going back to Falmouth. We like to go for runs along the beach, go bike rides along the Shining Sea bike path, go canoeing, swim in the ocean, walk to downtown for ice cream, and play in the yard.
A. McGuire purchased this house in 2002
We chose this house because we can walk to everything--beaches; downtown; the bike path; open space preserves. The spacious, shady yard is perfect for the kids to run around; street is very quiet; the neighborhood is friendly.
Our home is a very peaceful and pleasant place. We walk everywhere, and rarely need to drive. We bike to the beach; we walk to downtown; cool off in the outdoor shower after swimming; sit outside in the shady yard.
We enjoyed Abigail's home for 2 weeks. Our group consisted of my wife and myself, both in our sixties, my mother-in-law and her friend both at or near ninety years of age. This truly felt like a home and not just a rental house. The rooms were spacious but quaint. The combined kitchen and family room was perfect for visiting while preparing our meals.
The location is very nice. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful, yet we were close to downtown, Woods Hole, the local grocery store and several nice restaurants.
Wifi, the TV and all of the books and games are terrific extras for our down time from exploring the Cape Cod area.
Abigail was very easy to work with which is a plus when trying to negotiate a vacation retreat.
We have rented other places in Cape Cod in the past, however I can say this was the nicest we have stayed in.
Abigail's Falmouth home was absolutely perfect for our family of four (kids aged 9 and 7). We came to Falmouth for a wedding and stayed for the following week, a total of 9 nights. During the wedding weekend the house was a comfortable place for extended family to come spend time with us while we were all in town and the kitchen has everything you need to cook family meals.
The weather was lovely and there was so much to enjoy that we never even turned on a TV. At the house we enjoyed the quiet shady yard and herb garden, the games, puzzles, great book collection, swing set in the yard and the bikes. My 9 yr old son is an avid biker and was thrilled to find the blue bike and helmet in the shed, thanks for sharing that!
From the house we biked on the Shining Sea path several times, visited Plimouth Plantation and the Mayflower, the Cape Cod Maritime Museum, the Sandwich Glass Museum, Old Silver Beach, Highfield Hall and Falmouth's pretty Main Street. We had great food at the British Beer Company, Coonamessett Farms, Seafood Sam's and Ben & Bill's Chocolate Emporium and we loved 18 Cousins Bookstore in Falmouth.
The house helped us feel happy and relaxed and my kids made great memories there, we will stay here again if we get future trips to Cape Cod.
The owner is wonderful and has made her home ideal for guests by thinking of everything: garden, books, internet, bikes, games and toys, a great kitchen and just very comfortable and convenient all around. Easy bike commute to Woods Hole (very close to the bike path) and also easy to Falmouth (bike to the Falmouth Fish Market) & Main Street (we often walked) but very quiet. We are a couple plus two kids, but it was nice to have the extra bedroom for the occasional guest (when on the Cape for 3+ weeks, you will get guests!). We have been coming to this part of the Cape, Falmouth & Woods Hole, regularly since 1992 and this is now THE house we want to come back to -- our highest recommendation. It is everything and more than you see or read on this listing. Owner takes perfect care of her home. Thank you!
This is a lovely, roomy and comfortable house in a quiet neighborhood close to everything. We were thrilled that we could ride our bikes to the bike path and not have to rack them and drive all the time. We appreciated the use of the shed to store our bikes.
All amenities we required were there. The home features good quality furniture and the beds are wonderfully comfortable, something we don't always find! In our 30 years coming to the cape, this was our second in Falmouth, a very sweet town. We plan to come back. Thanks Abby!
We stayed in this charming house for 10 days. We had an extended group of family ranging from toddlers to mother-in-law visiting from England. Our little ones were upstairs with us in the room with 2 beds, while my husband and I were in the spacious master bedroom. My mother in-law enjoyed the bedroom on the main floor and my brother-in-law had the futon in the finished basement. I don't think the photos do a good job, as we were pleasantly surprised by the house upon our arrival.
The house was in tip-top shape and really contributed to our vacation. The view from the kitchen window was of the veggie patch and bird feeder. Our little ones enjoyed watching all the chipmunks, squirrel and various birds come out for their daily feeding. With 2 little boys aged 2 & under, we fully utilized the play structure and toys. The house is in tip-top shape and the kitchen is fully equipped to make dinners and enjoy them around the large table.
The location was perfect - just a short walk from downtown. My husband and I enjoyed taking a jog to and along the beach. You must get the chocolate croissants from the new French Bakery downtown - is is almost the first store as you come in to the main drag across from the School. If you want a nicer meal, try the Blue Onion which is a short drive from the house.
Abby was extremely easy to rent from - there were no hiccups on getting keys or dealing with the lease.
My family and I stayed here for a month in October 2012 and we absolutely loved it. My husband and I were doing some work at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and taking turns to be with the kids, and this house was perfect for us.
The house is spacious and comfortable, and in a lovely, quiet, friendly neighbourhood. My kids (aged 9 and 3) loved playing in the garden, on the playground and in the basement. There are lots of toys (blocks, lego, puzzles, etc) in the basement and lots of books (for both children and adults) around the house. The garden is lovely and we enjoyed sitting outside on warm days, and when it was too cold or rainy we could still enjoy the garden from the large bay window in the kitchen. Coming from Australia, we particularly enjoyed watching all the different birds, squirrels and chipmunks in the garden. There were bikes and kids ride-on toys in the shed which we could use. I enjoyed walking and bike riding on the Shining Sea bike path (just 5 minutes walk away).
It's just a couple of minutes drive or 10-15 minute walk to Falmouth town centre, where there are lots of restaurants and shops. Our favourites were Osteria La Civetta (Italian restaurant) and Stone l'Oven Pizza, and my kids loved the candy store and toy store on Main St. There are some lovely beaches within 10-15 minutes drive. Woods Hole is just a 15 minute drive away. This is a great place to base yourself for exploring Cape Cod.
The owner of the house is a great host. She sent me an email with information on the house before we arrived, and there was a folder in the house with information on the house, local restaurants and tourist attractions, with pamphlets, maps, etc. I emailed her with questions a few times and she was always very quick to reply, and very friendly and pleasant to deal with.
I'd definitely recommend this house. We really felt at home here. It was sad to leave, we all missed it after we left, and we would definitely stay here again when we next visit this area.
Outdoor shower; spacious, shady yard on quiet street with Childlife play structure and vegetable garden; 1/4 mile to Shining Sea Bike Path; pleasant 3/4 mile stroll to Main Street shops and restaurants; 1.5 mile walk or bike ride to the beach.
