About Doug or Julie Caines

We are pretty much a typical suburban family that is fortunate enough to own a little slice of heaven in the Smokey Mountains. We love watersports, outdoor activities and weekends with food, family and friends and this cabin accomodates it all. We love spending weekends here enjoying the views, the stars, the sounds and the smells that make the NC mountains so relaxing. We named Limerick Lodge after the lovely and welcoming Irish town we were engaged in and hope you enjoy it as much as we do !

Doug or Julie Caines purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Doug or Julie Caines chose Lake Chatuge

We searched far and wide for a vacation home with that perfect combination of location, luxury and lakeview. The very first time we pulled up to this cabin and saw this incredible view it was love at first sight. We wanted a rustic feeling cabin that had all of the conveniences, details and amenities you would expect from a newer property. We also wanted a location that gave us the feeling of being a million miles away but still close enough to enjoy on a moment's notice. We hope you too enjoy our cabin from what we think is the best vantage point of beautiful Lake Chatuge and the surrounding mountains.

What makes this cabin unique

It is close to everything around Lake Chatuge yet has all the privacy you would expect from a mountain cabin. Very roomy and cozy at the same time with space for both adults and kids to unwind. Limerick Lodge has incredible year-round lake and mountain views that can be enjoyed from all three levels of the cabin, a hottub, mobile firepit, xbox and movie collection, games and game table plus a kitchen stocked with tools for everything from steaks to spaghetti.

Great getaway!

  • 4 of 5

The cabin layout was great, and the kitchen had everything we needed. It was easy to find and not too far out of town, and yet it seemed peaceful and quiet.

Amazing Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

We could not have asked for a better vacation home! Everyone in our party loved this cabin - it was beautifully decorated yet very homey and comfortable. We had plenty of room to spread out (with 3 teenage boys) and everyone enjoyed the view, the firepit and the hot tub! Doug was incredibly accomodating and responsive and a pleasure to deal with. We all agreed that when (not if) we return to western NC we would stay at this home again!

Private amazing views everything you could possibly hope for!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I took our children (ages four and eight) along with my best friend and her husband and their children (three and eight). We had the vacation of a lifetime! The cabin was perfect for two separate families. We had plenty of privacy, and there were so many places for us all to come together and have a great time as well! This cabin was packed with everything you could possibly need on vacation and more! We spent a whole day just hiking around the cabin, and we walked to the tip top of the mountain where the view took our breath away! The view is just as outstanding from the living room of the cabin! It's extremely private, yet close to grocery stores, quaint restaurants, and antique stores. Our children absolutely had the time of their lives! We adults got to enjoy the hot tub after the little ones were tucked into bed. I just can't say enough wonderful things about this beautiful place! I cannot wait to return! Also, I left my glasses in a hard to find a place, and the owners sent people over to look for them not once but twice. They found them and then he shipped them to me at no cost at all. You couldn't ask for sweeter people to rent from! We received our deposit back almost immediately!

Great Stay at Limerick Lodge

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I had an excellent weekend vacation at Limerick Lodge. The cabin iteself was beautiful - very secluded, spacious and had all the amenities we could have hoped for (e.g., hot tub, large TV, WiFi). The kitchen had all the utensils etc. and it was immaculately clean when we arrived. The best part was the large deck with couple's swing looking out upon an incredible view of the lake, mountains and stars - we spent a lot of time out there. We would definitely return for another weekend vacation (or longer)!

Thank you.

Great New Years Stay!

  • 5 of 5

My group and I wanted to take a long post-christmas holiday vacation and celebrate the new year in the mountains. We weren't disappointed! We arrived late on the 26th but the house was lit and ready for us.

We had a lot of fun with the board games that were available, the hot tub, and the entertainment area on the bottom floor. It did stay pretty cold downstairs, but the fire on the main level kept us toasty warm. We did have some issues with the gas fireplace, but that comes down to not knowing how to use it as a Floridian! It was a bit of a drive to get anywhere other than the supermarket, but it's scenic and that's what we came for. Also, make sure you read the guest book. There's a pizza place (Big Al's) recommended and it was delicious!

I'd definitely recommend this place! It's secluded with a gorgeous view, and a supermarket about 5 minutes away. The kitchen is open which allows for being social while cooking, and the ultra plus was the hot tub was big enough for more than 3 people!

We loved it, and thanks for letting us have a wonderful happy new year!
