Bill & Celia Crowder purchased this house in 2011
Our home is located off of a cul-de-sac on a small channel leading into Shipshewana Lake and we are just 8 minutes from downtown Shipshewana and all the Amish shops as well as the Blue Gate restaurant and theater. We are secluded and quiet, especially during the late Spring through early Fall months when the woods block out most of our older neighbors, most of whom are gone during the day. There is plenty to do in the area: Shipshewana is a bustling Amish village with close to 100 shops and specialty retailers and many home-style dining establishments that serve bountiful Amish fare. Shoppers can search for handcrafted items, baked goods, antiques and more in picturesque turn-of-the-century storefronts and enjoy seeing horse-drawn Amish buggies clop through town. Every Tuesday and Wednesday from the first of May through the end of October, the Midwest’s largest flea draws serious shoppers and the simply curious. The Blue Gate Theater hosts some of the best in Southern Gospel concerts and several musical plays during the year. The Hudson car museum will take you into the past as you walk the rows of cars. Don’t forget the Heritage Trail that takes you throughout the area. We love to spend our vacations here and hope you will too!
Imagine yourself sitting on the deck overlooking the lake, listening to the 'clopping' hooves of the Amish buggy horses with a cup of coffee in the coolness of the night. Imagine the cheese factories and Amish bakeries minutes away!
How peaceful it is here! We enjoyed the flea market, the Round Barn Theater (in Nappanee) – it was fantastic! Thanks for the extra day!
I recently stayed at the Crowder's residence with the family. The house is tucked away on a hill, and has a very welcoming feel as soon as you walk up the steps to the deck. The house was more than big enough for us 3 and I'm sure it could accomadate a few more as well. The fire pit is situated by the water and makes for a great earlylate evening way to unwind. The town is very close with a plethora of shops to visit and places to eat. If you love the lake house feel and need a weekendweek away, this is a great way to enjot Shipshewana. Thanks again for your hospitality Mr. and Mrs. Crowder, we'll definitely be back!
We had such a lovely time and enjoyed our stay at the home . Very comfortable and everything was ready for us when we arrived. House very clean and well equipped with the things we needed for the week. Adding a few things made us feel like we were at home.
Loved the evenings sitting on the front porch playing games to dark. Did not see much wild life on the lake or around it but that of course depends on them not the owner. Lol
I can not think of anything that Bill has not provided for your stay. Hope to return next year.
One thing would be nice is the step into the house is high and the lady with us, we had to help her in since she could not lift her leg that high so just a wooden pellet or something to sit down for people that are a little handicap would be great. I understand that this is a unusual request from one guess but wonder if other guest have found this too. This will not stop us from returning next year.
Thank you Bill for all.
We had a very nice time visiting Shipshewanna. Our stay was very nice. The home is at the end of the road right on the lake. So it is very quiet and secluded. We unfortunately did not get to see the peacocks. My daughter enjoyed working on one of the puzzles! So she did not even miss the internet. I would recommend this home to friends that may be looking for a place to stay while visiting the Shipshewanna area.

What a great time we all had at this cottage. The view is a great one. The house is very cozy and well stock for a stay here. The bedrooms were very comfortable and clean as were the bathrooms. I will recommend this place to my friends. GREAT TIME WITH MY SISTERS! Name 3 cheeses.
We had a wonderful stay at this rental. I'm so glad we didn't listen to the bad review posted on here just after we booked our stay. I'm not a"friend" of the owner nor am I "coerced " in my review. This place is cozy comfortable and clean. Close to downtown for shopping and amish stores. We enjoyed sitting by the fire and playing games at the kitchen table. We definitely appreciated the letter from the owners with with suggestions and ideas on where to go and what to see.
We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at your cottage neatly tucked away on the hill with the lovely view of the water. We were looking forward to some relaxing time away from the stress of our lives, and we were not disappointed. The cottage was clean and cutely decorated. The deck was great as we enjoyed watching swans swimming along the lake shore. We had an enjoyable stay and are recommending your place to our friends.
