Clean, clean, clean and beautiful apartment
We stayed in Paulo’s conveniently located apartment for six weeks and had a wonderful stay. With all the amenities of home, we almost felt like locals. And the indoor parking spot was another plus. We highly recommend this property!
We had a lovely 10 day stay in Nazare which was our home base for exploring the area. The apartment was perfectly outfitted with everything we needed. The bedrooms were private and separate from the rest of the living space, two full bathrooms with lots if hot water, lovely living space and balconies front and back. I llove to cook , so access to a truly fully equipped kitchen made the stay even better. We went to the market daily for fresh food. The seafood restaurants were excellent and we particularly enjoyed Taverna 8 of 80 for excellent tapas (the shrimps in wine sauce were amazing)...also excellent gin and tonics. The apartment was close to everything. Cannot recommend it enough. Many thanks
Excellent apartment in an excellent town
This apartment must be one of the best in Nazare from both its quality and location. It has views across the harbour on one side and views up to Sitio on the other. Everything in the apartment works and is clean. It has 2 bathrooms and a full kitchen (incl. washing machine), and the large veranda gets the full sun in the afternoon. There is the bonus of a good pool and large sun area on the roof - this is a rarity in Nazare. You will also have use of reserved underground car parking space (again, a valuable asset so close to the town) - but see recommendation below. The property is a short walk (max 5 mins) to the centre of the old town which has a couple of small supermarkets for all your needs and a very large under-cover market for most fresh food every morning (including Sunday). Nazare doesn't have a single fast food outlet or coffee chain, and is so much the better for it. Just local restaurants, pastelaries, gelataries, and cafes, run by local people. Apart from the Portuguese families enjoying their holiday, it's a well know destination for elderly and discerning French tourists - that says it all. No fat, tattooed, football-shirted louts to be seen anywhere.
We have stayed in the apartment twice and didn't bother with a rental car the second time as it isn't needed whilst there. There is a regular and cheap air conditioned coach from Lisbon many times a day, with bookable seats - takes 2 hours from Lisbon bus station. Stay, enjoy, relax, drink good (cheap) coffee, and eat excellent (cheap) local food. Best to avoid August as it's very hot, and crowded with the Portuguese enjoying themselves.
The apartment does not have wifi and the TV gets just the standard few Portuguese terrestrial channels (you'll never complain about the BBC again). If you really can't live without full wifi, buy a "MiFi" or sim/dongle to cover your stay (avoid data roaming on your own phone outside your own country). The tourist office in the market building has free wifi access if you just need to check emails.
Brilliant small town experience
The apartment is ideally located just a few quiet blocks from the main square, where people gather to enjoy local life, the spectacular beach and the funicular up to Sitio. The apartment is modern and thoroughly outfitted, the balcony was great for morning coffee and pao bijou from local pastelarias spacious for four and clean. Beds are firm and comfortable, bathrooms work great; washing machine too. Security is good; parking in basement is very convenient. We are seriously thinking of staying here again because the town has such a wonderful vibe and there is good access to Obidos, Coimbra and even Porto, which is just over 2 hours away on very good highways.
Good apartment, central location and sea views
This is one of the best apartments you are going to find near the town centre. Underground parking, pool on the roof and sea views from the balcony, yet away from the bustle and noise of the sea front. The apartment is modern and well equipped and everything was functioning as it should. We went just out of season and nowhere was crowded. It's a short walk to the centre of Nazare and to the bottom of the funicular to Sitio (well worth a visit). Even a shorter walk to the steep path up to Sitio, for those who want the exercise. Sun hits the balcony from mid afternoon, but you can always go up on the extensive roof area to get the sun all day. Be warned that you are on the Atlantic coast so sea cloud and mist can come in and can take a while to clear in the morning. The apartment's TV gets just local channels and there is no WiFi. Bring some DVDs and leave them for the next guest - as others have done. If you are driving you must ensure you get written instructions on how to get there as you'll never find it otherwise. The instructions we were given were easy to follow, but there is only one route through the town to the (one-way) road the apartment is on and you need to negotiate two fairly narrow passages between houses. You do not need to use the car when there as a reasonable town-centre supermarket and a large covered market are a walk away. Be warned that Nazare is hilly and the apartment complex is up a steep road. Sorry, this town is not really the place to come if you are disabled or have trouble walking. In summary, Nazare is definitely a place to visit - cheap, friendly and, as yet, unspoilt by inappropriate developments - it's miles better than the Algarve in that respect. Consider getting the (cheap) bus from Lisbon rather than hire a car and then hardly using it for your stay.
The best home away in Nazare
Didn't expect such hot weather in June.. but the season was warming as we arrived and the beach just got livelier and livelier.
A holiday in this apartment is special, because the home has personality and is truly welcoming, and everything is walkable. Grilled fish, wild woodland cycles, crashing waves to swallow you and refresh, the clearest Atlantic air, and history within a drive, although we never take a car when we come as Nazare is all about CHILL! Thank you again. Wonderful. New hotels keep popping up, but we will never go anywhere else. Love it.
Nazare is one of the top tourist locations in the silver coast of Portugal. It is a bustling fishing town with plenty to see and do. The long promenade along the sandy beach stretches over 1km and is dotted with many authentic bars, cafes and restaurants as well as a variety of boutique shops selling crystals, lace and other local merchandise. There is also a great night-life for those who are looking for fun and excitement. Nazare can also be enjoyed by those looking to experience culture and the traditional Portuguese way of life plus visit some of the best cultural site in Portugal, including Alcobaca monastery, Batalha and Fatima cathedrals and the medieval castle of Obidos.
