About Louise Soucy
Our family home is right next door. We are year-round residents of Southwest Harbor. Our children attend the local schools and we are deeply involved in many aspects of our community.
Louise Soucy purchased this Cottage in 2009
Why Louise Soucy chose Southwest Harbor
Easy access to all of MDI from the cottage. Bar Harbor is a 15 minute drive, the summit of Cadillac Mountain is 13 miles, and the pleasure of the quiet village of Southwest Harbor is a few minutes' walk away.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Convenient to Downtown
We've been renting homes in SWH on and off for 30 years so we have many places to compare this home with. This home is very spacious for a 2 bedroom/1 bath and very convenient to downtown SWH. Unfortunately, even though the bedrooms are on the backside of the house, without the small window fans on you can hear the road traffic. The home was not as clean as I thought it would be from reading other reviews, especially the kitchen (maybe just a glitch in the cleaning this time?). On cooler days, the deck area is great for grilling/eating outside but there is no shade over the house so it can be very warm on hot days. .
This cottage was a pleasure to stay in during our visit. It met all our needs as a family of 4 adults and our family pup! The space is airy with lots of light and windows. The full bath with washer and dryer is a nice size. The kitchen is very well equipped. We found everything we needed to prepare meals. We were not sure what to expect for outdoor space from the on line photos. It has a very nice deck off the side of the house with a picnic table and grill and the back yard space is deep and perfect for fetch with our dog. Private and away from the road. Although the cottage is on Main Street, it is nestled far enough off the road that we really did not mind the traffic. And as far as location goes, it could not be more ideal. Minutes from town, across the street from a lovely flower and butterfly garden and convenient to the park and Bar Harbor and ferry to the Cranberry Islands is nearby. Louise and Jim are gracious hosts. They live next door and are readily available if you need them. We would surely consider staying there again and hope to do so in the future.
We really enjoyed staying at the cottage! Location was great and free bus system was fantastic.
Great vacation home while visiting Acadia National Park!
This was the perfect home for us to stay in while visiting Acadia National Park. It was clean and comfortable with great amenities like a dishwasher, dishes, towels, and washer & dryer. My kids loved playing with the games and toys at the house. The hosts were very welcoming, gave us lots of good ideas for sight-seeing/restaurants, etc and responded quickly to any questions. We enjoyed being on the "quiet-side" of the island, but still within close proximity to Bar Harbor, hiking trails, beaches and the town of Southwest Harbor.
Wonderful house and location
The Shell cottage was perfect for our trip to Acadia. It was within walking distance to a local grocery store as well as downtown Southwest Harbor. Bar Harbor was a short, reasonable drive. The owners Jim & Louise greeted us on the first day and offered many great suggestions for hiking, sights and restaurants. The cottage was great with a full size fridge and stove (making it easy to cook some meals), an instant hot water heater that allowed all 4 of us to shower comfortably, a gas grill for hamburgers (after we had our fill of lobster), and comfortable furniture and beds. We would definitely do this again.
Great location in the quieter side of the island.
We love to travel with our dog so being able to bring our dog is important. We also like to mostly eat in so having a full kitchen is very nice. The cottage was impeccably clean and nicely set up for our stay. Louise and JIm are great hosts.
Located on the quite side of Mount Desert Island. Minutes from Acadia National Park, hiking, biking and swimming. Ten-minute walk to the inner harbor.
