A great vacation get-away

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sommerset Cottage.

We have rented a number of vacation homes in different parts of the country, with most, but not all, being good experiences. Sommerset easily moves to the top of the list.

First of all, cleanliness is the most important concern that we have when staying away from home. Sommerset was very clean and well kept. This home is obviously well taken care of and we were very satisfied with everything in this respect.

There is plenty of room there as well. There were six of us, including our 4 children ages 13 to 20, and there was plenty of room for everyone. Having a full kitchen, 2 bathrooms and a washer & dryer all available on a week long vacation is definitely a plus.

My favorite part of the whole experience was the location. While there are homes on both sides of the cottage, we saw very few people in the area during our entire stay. And having your very own Lake Michigan beach right outside your back door is the very best thing about this place. We had virtually the entire bay to ourselves during our time there. This area is very secluded, with Wilderness State Park only about 100 yards away. The nearest towns of any size are all about 30-40 minutes away (Harbor Springs, Petoskey and Mackinaw City).

In summary, Sommerset is a great get-away retreat. Clean, roomy and away from most of civilization. The owners were very good about communicating and could not have been easier to work with. If we could give this place 6 stars, we would.

We had an outstanding time at Sommerset. It is a very wonderful and comfortable log home surrounded by pine trees and the back deck is fantastic. Even though there are house on both sides of Sommerst it seems very secluded. The log home is well maintained and the view of Lake Michigan is awesome. There is a large sandy beach with a fire pit and another wonderful view of Lake Michigan. Mackinaw City is about 25 minutes away. We will be going back in the future. We had no problems making reservation. It is a great place.

Great Place!

  • 5 of 5

Sommerset is a beautiful, comfortable log home on Lake Michigan a few miles north of Cross Village near Wilderness State Park. The location is secluded and very peaceful even though there are cottages on either side. The sandy beach is wonderful and the large deck behind the house is shaded by mature pine trees. We had no problems or disappointments and will consider renting here again. The owner was easy to work with.

Perfect

This is our second stay at Sommerset. This time we arranged our wedding to be in Cross Village because we love the area and the cottage so much. It is very clean, comfortable, quiet and even when it was cold out the scenery was beautiful. We will be back.

Great Place

We very much enjoyed our stay at Sommerset Cabin. We were there during late October and the area was quiet and beautiful. We walked the perfect beach on Sturgeon Bay for a couple of miles with no sign of others. Very serene. We hope to return next year.
