Nestled amongst stately trees on 6 lush acres, our cottage is among the most private settings on Cape Ann. The property has been in our family for 367 years, with a King's Grant not a deed! But, not to worry, the cottage is much younger. We are the closest house to the famous Steel Derrick Quarry, a 7-acre private granite swimming pool which is gated and guarded. The ocean (and the center of historic Rockport) is 1/2 mile away with two lovely beaches. But, note to the squeamish, this is a rustic cottage. Think of a hunting lodge with hotel linens and nice appliances. We have a lovely "Vermont Castings" outdoor grill (propane.) Very high-speed Internet and full cable TV package has been installed. Note to revelers: the art in the house is worth more than the house, as it's former resident (and my Mother-in-Law,) Barbara Swan, was an internationally famous artist. There are two bedrooms, one w/ a double bed, and the other with a queen. Both have Tempurpedic toppers. The smaller bathroom has a half-bath en suite, while the larger full bath is off the Great Room. The house has a woodstove for cooler autumn days, and electric spot-heaters in the bedrooms and large bathroom. However, it is a three-season dwelling which we close-up around early November, and re-open when Mother Nature allows. There are almost 30 miles of hiking/biking trails directly accessible out our back door. This setting is especially beautiful in the fall, as our trees are deciduous providing a riot of color. Children are welcome and always love this cottage, but care must be taken with toddlers. We do allow dogs by prior arrangement. There is a modest one-time extra fee for cleaning residual dog hair. While there are just the two bedrooms, very often extra guests will use my sailboat sleeping mattresses (also Tempupedic) on the floor of the living room, or the sun porch, for extra bedding. If you are a writer and/or a reader (such as I,) this setting will be exquisite for you. If you just want the quietest relaxation imaginable, then it's pretty swell for that, as well.

A quaint cottage and very comfortable. .
We are outside people so this place was perfect for us and our dogs. It is a lot like a camp but with the comforts of home. Richard is a great host and has a lot of information on the area. We would stay here again.
Private beautiful property
We had a wonderful relaxing vacation. Cottage is rustic but very comfortable. Excellent wireless, comfortable bed, beautiful property. Richard stocked the kitchen with breakfast items before our arrival. He was also kind enough to allow our dogs to come with us. We would definitely return.
My family and I had a wonderful and relaxing time here.
We enjoyed the rustic cottage feel, and the art and books everywhere. The porch among the trees was a super place to unwind. Loved the easy walk into town and appreciated a very well-provisioned kitchen. Richard was a great host. I would definitely return. Might be a bit small for 6 people.
The property was amazing , very relaxing , beautiful scenery
Rich our host was amazing he was kind enough to show us around the house and property. He then gave us great places for dining. From the house its only a few minutes to all the beaches from the back deck you feel like your in a tree house. I would recommend property to family and friends.
