About Beth Whelihan

We are a family of 6 who enjoy hiking, fishing, kayaking and all outdoor activities. It has been our pleasure to own this beautiful home and raise our kids out in nature.

Beth Whelihan purchased this house in 2010

Why Beth Whelihan chose Olympic Peninsula

We feel that it is very important to have a place to go and rest. This home was perfect and we knew it the minute we walked in the front door. We are close enough to the town of Forks that we can let the kids walk there, but tucked away on the river where we can enjoy privacy and tranquility too.

Best Homeaway Rental Ever! Roomy, clean, peaceful, right on the river!

  • 5 of 5

We have rented a lot of homeaway properties over the last 3 years, and this was our favorite! The house was very roomy and allowed my family of 5 (with 3 teens) to spread out. There was plenty of privacy, and we loved the layout with the loft upstairs for the parents and the kids downstairs with the two sets of bunks and a pull out bed. The house was SPOTLESS! I loved the wrap around decks overlooking the river, and this is where I had my breakfast each morning. It was a perfect location for hiking Olympic National Park, including Hurricane Hill up by Port Angeles, the tidal pools along the beach (just a few miles away), and the Hoh Rainforest. My family also enjoyed the large, flat yard for playing soccer, Frisbee, etc. And each night we spotted a herd of elk on the left side of the property. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Without hesitation, I would recommend this property! If we ever go back to Washington, we will definitely stay here again. It exceeded all of my expectations! Thank you for sharing your wonderful home!

Where do you live?

Beautiful home on a beautiful piece of property! A very peaceful and private place!

  • 4 of 5

This home was perfect for our family and extended family that were visiting from Michigan. There were 8 of us staying here and we never felt crowded. The home has a spiral staircase that goes up to the loft where the queen bed is and there is a covered sun deck. There is another spiral staircase that goes to the bottom part of the home which has a mini kitchen and living area with couch, love seat and an ottoman that pulls out into a twin sized bed. It also has a TV and fireplace. The bedroom has two bunk beds with a full bath. The main floor has a nice sized kitchen with a dining area, fireplace, sitting area and then a sweet little alcove area with a couch and television and a bathroom with stand up shower. There are so many places to sit on the deck and enjoy the beautiful river! Two days in a row an eagle flew down the middle of the river!

This vacation home is perfect for a family with older children - I would be nervous with younger children and the stairs. My 84 year old Aunt was able to navigate them quite well. :) You just need to be aware and have the stair light on.

We enjoyed the beaches at La Push, walked through the Hoh Rain Forest where we saw a herd of elk, took in the beauty of Ruby Beach and Shi Shi and hiked Cape Flattery, even in the rain it was absolutely beautiful!!! My only regret is that we have not explored this part of Washington sooner!!!

Beth's home is so comfortable and welcoming! Thank you Beth for sharing your piece of solitude with the rest of us!!!

Great little get-away in Forks, WA

  • 4 of 5

The River Front home was a great place to stay. Six Canadians came down from Vancouver to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving and do some surfing.

The rental is packed full of character, and it suited us well. The kitchen is very well stocked for making meals - things like cheese graters and serving spoons were very helpful! We were missing was a potato masher, besides that, the kitchen was way more than I expected.

The only thing that I would note is that the listing says that it sleeps 8, however there is only 1 queen bed, and two bunk beds that can sleep 4. There are air matresses, and a pull-out ottoman (twin size) but in terms of beds that sleep two, there is just the queen bed in the master bedroom. If you came with a party of 8, there would be at least a couple of people sleeping on air mattresses.

I would definitely come back again!

Rain, rain, rain, but great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Arrived on a hot sunny day. The house was a joy to enter. Visually very appealing, taking advantage of river. House not cluttered, and great outdoor space. We were a group of four, senior couple and adult sons. The sleeping arrangements are not quite as great as the rest of the house but worked out okay for us. I am a senior, but did not find the spiral stairs to the loft much of a problem and happily enjoyed that area. My only complaint would be the lack of screens in any windows or doors up there to help cool off on a hot sunny day. Not much of a problem since we only had sun that one day. This house had an incredible amount of amenities for guests. We were amazed. Don't go to the grocery until you check it out! Great location for many of the Oympic National Park areas, and fun to see the "Twilight" areas. Enjoyed reading the copy of the book at the house.

Voor herhaling vatbaar

  • 5 of 5

Fantastisch huisje.

Perfect location, clean, quiet, and great for kids

  • 5 of 5

We were able to book this home on short notice. The owner was helpful and easy to work with. The home is very clean and comfortable in a quiet location. The four bunk beds were great for the 4 children. The downstairs kitchenette was perfect for their snack area and they enjoyed playing outside in the large yard. The upstairs kitchen is well stocked and organized. Multiple decks were wonderful to enjoy the outdoors. Forks is a very nice, friendly town that is ideally located to explore the entire west side of Olympic National Park, including the beaches and more isolated parts of the park. We hiked the Rugged Ridge Trail one afternoon without meeting any other hikers. One caveat is that the home is not suitable for those with disabilities or mobility impairments. The queen bedroom is up the spiral staircase, and the lower level is down the spiral staircase. Additionally the main floor has several areas that are raised up or down. It is not a flat floor. Overall, we wish we had been able to spend many more days at this home, and hope to come back some day during a good salmon run.
