This stunning home sits on 3 acres located right on the Calawah river, in Forks, Washington. Peace, quiet, tranquility and natures beauty fill the air. The home sleeps 10, with a master loft bedroom and a lower room with bunk beds. The large wrap around porch is perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning, or an after dinner drink in the evening. Sweeping views of the river are enjoyed from the entire main floor. One of the most beautiful spots in Forks.
We are a family of 6 who enjoy hiking, fishing, kayaking and all outdoor activities. It has been our pleasure to own this beautiful home and raise our kids out in nature.
Beth Whelihan purchased this house in 2010
We feel that it is very important to have a place to go and rest. This home was perfect and we knew it the minute we walked in the front door. We are close enough to the town of Forks that we can let the kids walk there, but tucked away on the river where we can enjoy privacy and tranquility too.
The first impression of the home is underwhelming, until you see the view of the river. It's so relaxing. The home is well appointed with everything you need. Beware that there are tons of steps, one step up here, one down there, and the bedroom is up a spiral staircase. Forks is a tiny remote town, and the best location for exploring the western side of Olympic NP.
My husband and I took a trip to Forks with my husband's brother, sister-in-law, and two young daughters. The house is absolutely adorable and right on a little creek with tons of space to run around and explore. The house seemed clean and had everything we needed to cook dinners both nights in the kitchen.
The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is because the bed(room) situation is a bit misleading. The listing states that there is a bedroom with a queen bed, which is true but it's in a lofted area with no door. And the listing also says there is a bunk bed and murphy bed but there is actually just two bunk beds (all twin size). The bathroom attached to the room with the bunk beds does not have a door, only a curtain. For these reasons, I would say this house is best for families, as opposed to couples or friends who might require a bit more privacy for their stay.
All in all, great house!
I'll start with the bad, Almost went three stars because the stairs railing is not up to code, there is a open back shelf set up that my toddler could have easily fallen a story through. The outside deck railing is gapped far enough off the deck for kids to slip through as well, far past the 4" rule for code. The only fenced area has giant gaps down the hill side another nightmare for trying to vacation with small kids or people that don't get around well. The basement is almost it's own apartment and far easier to contain kids, but we where stuck down there the entire time and didn't get to enjoy the value the house provides. The positive's now, what an amazing house, the view, the decor, the river access, the beds, the yard complete with that rainforest feel, I likely will rent this house again on a fishing trip with my buddies, but not with a toddler or Grampa. For the right customer, you won't find a better house in the Forks area for the price.
This property was a perfect location to base our trips to Hoh Rainforest and the beaches of Olympic National Park. The grounds and the river were beautiful. There was a note to not go in the meadow, as it was not part of the property, but we were never sure exactly what area was meant by that. We were hoping to see eagles, elk, (and maybe even bears!), but we didn't see any the little time we were actually "home." The home had everything we needed. My husband and I slept in the upstairs loft, and the other two in our group slept downstairs where there were two bunk beds (could sleep 4) and a bathroom, even a little kitchen and sitting area. The second bathroom was on the main level, with the kitchen and living room. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was stocked with spices, etc.. We had a little trouble with the television going off (saying it was overheating) after just a few minutes of viewing, but who needs to watch TV when you're in such a beautiful part of the country! It's not a brand new house, so there was a little wear and tear, and the deck could probably use a refurbishing, but overall it was a great place and we enjoyed our stay tremendously! My favorite part was the view through all the windows facing the river.
We have rented a lot of homeaway properties over the last 3 years, and this was our favorite! The house was very roomy and allowed my family of 5 (with 3 teens) to spread out. There was plenty of privacy, and we loved the layout with the loft upstairs for the parents and the kids downstairs with the two sets of bunks and a pull out bed. The house was SPOTLESS! I loved the wrap around decks overlooking the river, and this is where I had my breakfast each morning. It was a perfect location for hiking Olympic National Park, including Hurricane Hill up by Port Angeles, the tidal pools along the beach (just a few miles away), and the Hoh Rainforest. My family also enjoyed the large, flat yard for playing soccer, Frisbee, etc. And each night we spotted a herd of elk on the left side of the property. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Without hesitation, I would recommend this property! If we ever go back to Washington, we will definitely stay here again. It exceeded all of my expectations! Thank you for sharing your wonderful home!
This home was perfect for our family and extended family that were visiting from Michigan. There were 8 of us staying here and we never felt crowded. The home has a spiral staircase that goes up to the loft where the queen bed is and there is a covered sun deck. There is another spiral staircase that goes to the bottom part of the home which has a mini kitchen and living area with couch, love seat and an ottoman that pulls out into a twin sized bed. It also has a TV and fireplace. The bedroom has two bunk beds with a full bath. The main floor has a nice sized kitchen with a dining area, fireplace, sitting area and then a sweet little alcove area with a couch and television and a bathroom with stand up shower. There are so many places to sit on the deck and enjoy the beautiful river! Two days in a row an eagle flew down the middle of the river!
This vacation home is perfect for a family with older children - I would be nervous with younger children and the stairs. My 84 year old Aunt was able to navigate them quite well. :) You just need to be aware and have the stair light on.
We enjoyed the beaches at La Push, walked through the Hoh Rain Forest where we saw a herd of elk, took in the beauty of Ruby Beach and Shi Shi and hiked Cape Flattery, even in the rain it was absolutely beautiful!!! My only regret is that we have not explored this part of Washington sooner!!!
Beth's home is so comfortable and welcoming! Thank you Beth for sharing your piece of solitude with the rest of us!!!
