About the property

50 acres of fun and exploring with the most amazing views in the smokies. When it comes to outdoor fun we have it! WILD TURKEY AND WHITE TAIL DEER are everywhere. Endless hiking on the 50 acres with a small pond and a stream. Across the street from our property is the Cherokee national forest where you can ride your horse or hike for endless miles. The Appalachian Trail is accessible from the forest. I have personally walked from our home to the trail and on up towards Roan Mountain. The forest is loaded with waterfalls and a very popular destination for several of the locals to hike and jump from the falls off the elk river (you can do a YouTube search for compression falls or twisted falls). Another popular destination is the Bristol NASCAR races which is about 1 hour away.

Sailing and power boating on Watauga Lake with 104 miles of shoreline, covering 34,200 acres is 15 minutes from the property. Beech mountain a great skiing area is about 15 min. depending on your destination.

Banner Elk is 20 mins away loaded with great restaurants and fun things to do. The Blue Ridge Parkway winds its way through the area providing the most scenic views in the Appalachian Mountains with no billboards or stoplights.

Golfing opportunities abound on well over a dozen mountain courses, half of which are public or semi-private. Hiking is plentiful on hundreds of miles of trails, from easy to challenging, including the Appalachian Trail.

Fly Fishing along the Elk and Watauga Rivers is among the best in the eastern United States. Grandfather Mountain, one of the most identifiable peaks in the region is a World Biosphere site featuring unique rock formations, a mile high swinging bridge and abundant wildlife.

Tweetsie Railroad is a family fun park geared to young children featuring the historic East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Rail Road, better known as “Tweetsie.”

Gem Mining is a popular pastime for youngsters, and serious rock hounds alike. Spruce Pine is the location of a Native-American gem shop with rare minerals and native American artifacts that date from antiquity. Whitewater rafting, kayaking and tubing are available on numerous rivers with several professional outfitters providing guided trips.

Rock Climbing and caving can be enjoyed year round on your own or through one of the local outfitters. Horseback trail riding and boarding for horses can be found throughout the area.

Snow Skiing and Snow Boarding are available at the area’s three ski resorts and cross country skiing is a favorite on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

4 wheel drive is recommended for winter access.

Beautiful House and Views

  • 5 of 5

The house is nicely furnished with very comfortable beds. The owner is easy to deal with and provides maps for hiking to local waterfalls. The porch is the perfect spot to watch beautiful sunsets and for star gazing. The views are gorgeous with a lot of wildlife and more butterflies than I have ever seen. It is nice to have hiking trails on the property that are wooded and shady. The entrance road and driveway are best suited for a SUV or a car with higher ground clearance. We made an easy drive to Banner Elk, Grandfather Mountain and Blowing Rock. We would love to stay in this house again during another season.

Remote and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

House is gorgeous and views are incredible. 4-wheel drive definitely recommended for the access road, even in summer, but the effort is worth it. Kitchen was well stocked and entire house was very clean with high-end furnishings. We stayed with 4 adults and 5 young kids; there was plenty of room for all but you might want to consider bringing an air mattress for extra sleeping options. Owners were super friendly and responsive.

Pure Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

Great place to get away from everything! Beautiful home in the middle of nowhere for you to enjoy complete beauty. Our family spent 4 nights and 5 days at this home and enjoyed every minute of it. The kids spent hours sledding on the hill and we all loved hiking in the woods. Breathtaking sunrises and sunsets and amazing stargazing at night. We arrived in the evening when it was snowing and definitely needed four wheel drive/AWD. The driveway can be a little intimidating to come up/down if you don't have that. I would highly recommend having four wheel drive if there is a chance of snow and ice and arrive when it is light out. During the seasons where there may not be ice or snow, there shouldn't be any issues.

The house was equipped with one king size bed, one full size bed, one single bed, and a set of bunk beds. There are two huge couches where people can sleep as well. We had 9 adults and 5 children, so the bed situation was actually not ideal, but we all found a spot to sleep, so just consider the bed situation and bring a few extra blankets and pillows for couches or floors.

The house was equipped with plenty of dishes, silverware, pots, pans, etc. Definitely enough to have our Thanksgiving meal.

Overall a great place for adventure, peacefulness, and beauty! We would go back again!

What an amazing place! We were so thankful to have had this chance. The home is lovely and the views were heavenly. Our kids had so much fun playing on the hill, flying kites and running endlessly. We saw deer and turkeys, beautiful sunsets and bright moonlit skies. Hiking was fun just right out the door. We had fun cooking in the beautiful kitchen and we were very comfortable the entire time. Thank you for sharing such a lovely spot! Getting there is easy if you follow the written directions, and its true that the road is a little rough in spots but we had an SUV and a regular car and both made it in and out fine.

Can't wait to come back and enjoy another weekend.

  • 5 of 5

DO NOT be afraid of the location of this house, it really is not that hard to get to. I would suggest 4 wheel drive if winter weather is involved. The house is 5 star across the board, the views are 5 star in every direction, the wild life is unreal. We had 4 couples for the weekend and went skiing one day (only 25 minutes to Sugar and Beech) and the next day just enjoyed the entire house and the views and relaxed. No cell phone service is something everyone should experience a few times a year. Internet service is great and keeps you in touch if needed. We enjoyed the place so much that we did not even turn on the TV once. Can't wait to return for a summer weekend.

Amazing views and home... awesome weekend!

  • 5 of 5

Outstanding accommodations for a family or large group get away. Luxurious home with everything you could possibly want or need except cell service… which really wasn’t missed. Wifi was great for those that can’t unplug. The property and views are truly amazing, you are definitely remote. Owner’s directions were perfect and definitely needed when arriving late. They had snow the evening before we arrived, 4-wheel drive is a must in winter. We came prepared with plenty of food and drink for all. We ventured out one day to ski at Beech, great trip!

Kitchen was a cook’s dream, well stocked and everything was high end. Master bedroom and bath on first floor were private and wonderful. Bedrooms and den upstairs gave us plenty of space to spread out. Front porch was a great place for that first cup of coffee in the morning. We all enjoyed the fire pit and sledding down the front yard/mountain top.

The owner was extremely helpful throughout the entire process. The whole experience was wonderful. As we pulled out the kids were already planning the next trip… we definitely will be back!
